    Hello Kenchan, thanks so much for the detailed videos that you made, they are helpful for my travel in japan. Could you do a video that explains in detail about transferring between different tokyo metro lines or between JR lines? For example how to transfer between tokyo metro line and toei subway lines? How to transfer between the JR lines to tokyo metro/toei lines? I'm a bit confused on how to use the transfer gate when transferring between different lines. I'll be using Suica for commuting between destinations. Thaks so much :)

    This is very helpful!
    If I am taking a train into Tokyo from outside Tokyo, say the Chuo Line and I need to transfer at the Shinjuku station to get on the Yamanote Line, I would buy the Yamanote line once I arrive in Shinjuku. When buying a ticket for Yamanote line from a ticket machine, does a time for a specific train have to be specified? What if one does not board the train the ticket is for, but boards an earlier or later train? (for example, if the train is packed and one wants to wait for the next train). Is this allowed?

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, in that case Chuo line and Yamanote line are both JR, so there is no gate in between. When you take Chuo line, you can purchase tickets to the final destination of JR. But most of the cases, I recommend you to get IC card so i gets much easier. These are non-reserved train like subway, so tickets are available for that day. 👍

      That is very helpful and good to know! I didn't realize you can get all tickets at once if the line is all owned by JR@@tokyokenchan

      One more question @tokyokenchan if you do not mind. What if the unreserved train you boarded is packed and you do not want to get on. Can you get on a next train?
      I think I am confused whether the fee is for letting you in through a gate, or if you need to carry ticket with you because inspector will come on train to check. In some countries like Germany, you have a pass and you get on train without paying or worrying about anything, but you must present the pass in case an inspector comes. In other countries, it is an issue of getting through the gates an no one every checks train tickets on the train. So many different ways of doing it and hard to follow all the rules.

      You might not use 1600 yen worth of train in a day when you get around central Tokyo though. The metro pass 24 hours ticket is 800 Yen, and it says if you use subway at least 5 times a day, it worth getting it. :)

    Question Kenchan, if I have JR Rail Pass, is the route from Tokyo station to Narita Airport covered? I know Narita Airport to Tokyo Station is covered but was curious about the other way around. Thank you.

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  2 года назад +1

      Hello, Animalfries san, Yes, as long as the pass is in the valid period, you can use it for the Narita Express for both ways after getting the seat assigned. In case you stay in Tokyo long and do not use the JR Pass soon, you can also use the other transportations and validate the pass when you leave Tokyo. If within 14 days trip, "N'EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket" which is 4070 Yen round trip also works. I hope I answered your questions.

      @@tokyokenchan Thank you so much for the fast reply Kenchan! Especially on a Sunday for you!
      That is perfect. My 14 day JR Pass will expire the same day that I need to be back at Narita for my flight!
      My last question is, what is the cheapest round trip fare for Narita to Tokyo and then Tokyo to Narita for a 3 day period? Because I will fly into Narita from Seoul 3/4/23' and fly out of Narita back to USA 3/6/23'.
      Thank you again for the great video and even better answers!!

      @@henlolneh san, you're welcome! I'm not sure if I got it right, so you stay in Japan for 14 days and head to Seoul and stay another 3 days from March 4 to 6? The cheapest round trip fare to Tokyo station would be the airport bus TYO-NRT, and that is 2600 Yen round trip. JR's local train can take you to Tokyo Station directly (round trip for 2684 Yen) too, but takes long. I hope I'm answering your questions!

    • @henlolneh

      @@tokyokenchan Sorry for the confusion!
      I will be in Japan 2/7 - 2/25 , then Seoul 2/25 - 3/4 , and then back to Tokyo 3/4 - 3/6 and I fly back to USA 3/6!
      So I need to do many Narita > Tokyo , Tokyo > Narita trips during my stay haha! For my 2/25 flight to Seoul, it will still be good to use my 14 day JR Pass as it will work from 2/12 - 2/25. But my question is for my Narita > Tokyo , Tokyo > Narita for 3/4 and 3/6 is what I was asking for in regards to cheapest options!
      Hopefully this makes sense!

    Is there a JR equivalent for Tokyo Metro Pass?

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  2 года назад +2

      Yes, One Day Pass (morning to night) is 760 Yen and only valid for JR within 23 cities of Tokyo. For the pass you can use for both JR and subways is 1600 Yen a day (morning to night). Both are the tickets Japan residents can also purchase. I hope it helped.

    • @redfish337
      @redfish337 2 года назад +2

      To be clear, in practice, the Tokunai pass (760 yen one) is only occasionally useful, and the full 1600 yen pass is almost always a rip-off.
      While you usually don't get a view, the subway network is much more vast than the few JR lines that the tokunai works with. JR even do such a jerk move as stopping at Kasai Seaside Park instead of going one more station to Maihama, so all the people staying at the Disney area hotels can't easily use the pass. Similarly it goes to Nishi-Ogikubo, instead of Kichijoji or Mitaka, so that you're 1-2 stations short if you want to go to Ghibli Museum. It's just deficient on most routes that justify 760 yen.
      They're charging the locals 900 yen for the double subway company pass.
      The 72 hour pass is sort of a 3.5 day pass, and you get it for 1500 yen.
      It's half price what they charge the locals. It's a great deal.

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  2 года назад

      @@redfish337 san Thank you for clarifying. That's true both Disney and Ghibli are right outside the 23 wards. ^^
