Damn! That is two songs from this band that has successfully given me goosebumps now! It was an unheard of feat until I discovered A Demon's Fate and this song.
While the lyrics do allude to the Battle of Britain (darkest hour, Churchill’s speech) But honestly, I feel like it’s about the Holocaust. German citizens saw the antisemitism grow but they buried their heads and ignored it. Britain and France repeatedly stoped Poland from mobilizing it’s army before the invasion. And even after the invasion, Britain and France declared war on Germany but did nothing to help Poland fend off the Soviets and the Nazis. France started to take back Polish land the Nazis had taken... They were winning but then they just stoped advancing. Then France fell to the Nazis. And well... America and Britain knew about the Holocaust as it was happening. A Polish resistance fighter voluntarily went to Auschwitz to find out what was happening there. He smuggled information out and begged Britain to aid the Polish Resistance to liberate the camp. After 3 years he escaped with two others. He escaped just so he could attempt to liberate Auschwitz from the outside. Britan refused- they didn’t even bomb the train tracks to Auschwitz. America and Britain both turned away refugees trying to escape the Holocaust.... WWII just is the embodiment of the worst of humanity.
