  • Original Song Written about an old Rail line near me. Its actually back in service as a scenic railway here in the Cuyhoga Valley in Ohio. The song is about her early days. All Rights Reserved
    The Cuyahogs Valley Line
Big steel wheels thunder down the track
Here comes the Cuyahoga Valley Line
    Smoke blowin sulfur and ash
Big load a coal from the Stark County mine
She climbs through the piney hills
    From Bolivar to New Berlin
Engineer blows his whistle as she turns every bend
From Peninsula on up to Cleve--land
Keep the pressure up and the fire box hot
    Roll on Cuyahoga Valley Line
Power her up and give her all youve got
This here locomotive is runnin out of time
Steel rail boss he’s a countin his money
Not worried about a poor railroad man
He’ll turn em and he’ll burn em
Hire him up some new men if he can
This coal train has made her last trip through the valley
Well this steam ship is a lady dressed in black
Her whistles are a howlin she ain’t afraid of dyin
But she’s mornin for a time that won’t come back
Keep the pressure up and the fire box hot
    Roll on Cuyahoga Valley Line
Power her up and give her all you’ve got
This here locomotive is runnin out of time
Now a hundred years have come and gone
Nothing left but over grown rusted track
But if you put your hands down on those rails
You can feel her thunder coming back
Keep the pressure up and the fire box hot
    Roll on Cuyahoga Valley Line
Power her up and give her all youve got
This here locomotive is runnin out of time
This here locomotive is runnin out of time

There were still some Freight trains near me growing up in the 1960's, even remember there was no "Homeless" just a few "Hobos" hanging near the RR tracks....it was the last days of the Old Freight Trains. Good song and lyrics...Mike...

Nice to see a topical song about the old railways Mike, still relevant to many who value our history. I like the blend of lyrics and minor chords . Good work.

Thanks Brian....shes still evolving. Once I get her smoothed out Ill take her to the stage and see how she does. A song with a steam engine that was a coal train....thats almost unfair subject matter ;)

Love this song! Perfectly depicts a lot of the CVSR and our history!

Great song...and speaks of an industrial era in the US that built the country....iron ore from the upper Great Lakes, coal from the East and the steel mills...all moved by boat, barge, and rail

Cool tune Mike. I’m not sure if it’s the same one, but I recently took a ride on the train that leaves from the Winking Lizard in Peninsula and makes its way down to the north end of Akron and then back up.

Thats it...was originally called the Valley line when it was used to haul coal.
