I’m on the peg 39s currently. Did about 600miles on the 38s before upgrading and always seemed good to me. Got them because they are only around £80 so a cheap everyday runner.
Never owned more than 1 running shoe at a time so might treat myself this year to the vaporfly 2 if we get another price drop…would like to see and feel how much difference they make on long races

After getting into running last year, bought the Pegasus 39s and loved them! Covered 500+ miles in them :) bought another pair for this year too! But I've tried other trainers in the meantime that offer much different things for daily training (Saucony Speed 3, Ride etc) and went for a 20 mile long run in the new Peg 39s and found I didn't have the same love for them. Not as bouncy as what I remembered.
I'd say a great first trainer to get, but only before moving on to better things.

Started running in the 32 and I'm very lucky to have 6 Nike Outlets within 45mins drive so I've had nearly every variant since I picked up the 32 and started running (haven't had 3 shield variants, Turbo 2, Trail 2 and the 33 but had everything else since the 32).
I ran my 2nd marathon in a pair of 34, retired them at 360 miles.
The 35 was stiff underfoot up until about 100 miles and then it came to life, felt amazing underfoot from that point on and I think the 35 has been my favourite of the normal versions so far.
The 37 is like a brick with the React foam even at 120 miles.
They changed the sizing with the 38 and I now need half a size up 🤷‍♂️
The 39 is a nod back to the 36 I think in it's design but I wholeheartedly agree the 40 should have been a far bigger update at the 40th version.
Curious on the weight Aubrey mentioned as my UK 10.5 Nimbus 25 are 335g and my UK 10.5 Peg 39 are 295g so has the Peg 40 gained weight 🤔

Aubrey’s comments are bang on. It’s a meh trainer for people who are either new to running or have to have Nike. To be fair the competition doesn’t really light your heart on fire either - Brooks Ghost, Saucony Ride, NB880, Adidas SL. In this price point I’d pick the new Cumulus 25 or the Hoka Clifton 9.

I am not as negative as you on the recent Pegasus. My history with Pegasus: I first tried them in the 90s and hated them so much I returned them.
I tried them again starting about 7 years ago. I have run in numbers 34, 35, 37, and 38. The 34 & 35 were good shoes, but I have a problem with metatarsalgia, and I needed to use met pads to run in those versions comfortably. Starting with the 37 and 38, which added React foam, I did not need to do that anymore, and for me, that made it a much more comfortable shoe. I think it lost a little stability at the same time.
IMO this is a bigger upgrade to the foam than Brooks has done with the Ghost, but other shoe manufacturers have done more significant upgrades in the last four years. The funny thing is that the first shoe I tried that used a lighter, softer foam design was the Nike Epic React that I found very cheaply at the local outlet store. They were an experimental shoe, and they felt great when I first tried them on. Drawbacks are they are not that durable, and an outsole that is mostly exposed foam. Although the React foam made its way into the Pegasus, much of the vision behind it has not made it into their everyday shoes. The outsole on the Pegasus is very good, so Nike should not mess that up, but it would be nice to see Nike cut the weight by 10% or so on the next version.

I totally agree with you. Such a shame Nike didn't make a major update to this historical model. They stubbornly stick to the "two years rule". I think we'll see something, hopefully, next year. For now let's stay with the 39 at cheaper price.

Yeah it's a no from me man. I've held both, put both on, and the 40 is a ridiculous weight gain for just an upper update. I get the two year cycle (still think they should've done more to generate hype behind the Pegasus for once) but they objectively made a worse shoe (if you count weight in, which I do, I don't want to run in something overly heavy for no reason) than the 39. Just disappointing really, especially when NB and Saucony are putting better economy shoes out than the Pegasus and are actually trying

Great video Aubrey, I'm with Chris on this, I feel the Pegasus is stuck in a rut myself and paid the extra to get the quite frankly amazing On Cloud Surfer 7, it may only be £114 but I wouldn't wear it enough to justify buying it. I'll save the money and put it towards the Vaprofly 3 😀

I feel a lot of shoe reviewers down weight durability in their reviews. Maybe because you review new shoes every month it doesn't come up. I have 2000 km on my Pegasus 37, and although I really should replace them they're still holding together an s feel great. If companies slap soft foams in everything we would have to replace shoes more often as softer foams go dead faster.

for me, the last good daily trainer from nike was the nike epic react (v1 and v2, doesn't matter). A simple light shoe with a great midsole, perfect for daily training. Lockdown a bit loose in the heel, but you won't race in it anyway.
After that, none of their daily trainers spark my interest. All hype and too many promises on technology that eventually have to be compromised in other areas of the shoe's performance, be it weight, stability, price, lockdown, bulkiness, or whatever...

Surely if you have a shoe that has made it to 40 iterations then each new model will be a mild refining/improving to the existing model. Similar to what Porsche do with the 911. You can't have something with such a distinguished lineage and chop and change all the time.

I have ZERO interest in trying any of the recent versions, with rare exceptions Nike has really screwed up their running lineup. The Super Shoes are great, and I'm one of the few people who like the Zoom Fly 5. Otherwise, I've moved on to Saucony, New Balance, etc.

So many things wrong with this shoe.
Drop is too high, and WILL ruin your calfmuscles - and thereby your achilles tendon -.
The toebox narrows inwards to soon (a Nike thing...), making the last/shape of the shoe only fit people with a narrow foot, already ruined by narrow footwear. But thats most people in the US and western world.
I've used the Nike Pegasus randomly in its first 10 years, from around 84'ish to 1992, and then a couple of times in between and now the latest iteration.
And the truth is, that the shoe has not improved in the last 30 years!
Oh, a lot of marketing BS as usual, but nothing in term of improving running mechanics, preventing (long term) injuries, making you faster, getting cheaper.
Dont forget, that we are not talking about some BS "what the Pegasus represents...".
    It's just another running shoe!
It's what the specific running shoe is like to run in here and now, that counts (And what it does to your body in the course of 30+ years).
People did run a lot before the Pegasus even existed.
    But Nike knows about marketing!
