They both work, but have very different feels. The V17 is soft and more nimble… the I3 is more rolling and bouncy. I enjoyed the I3 earlier in the year but now I much prefer the V17 and its relationship to the Peg.
Interesting video as ever. I think the only daily trainers that I could “just about” do all the things you mention were the “old” adidas Boston, Peg Turbos, Endorphin Speed as they are all “lightweight” trainers for me say around 280g in my UK 13/US 14. So I think for me these two Nike ones fit into a definition of daily trainer that I could use for anything other than fast days and reluctantly over an hour as so many marathon racers now to make those runs more enjoyable. For me not exactly light at around 360-380g. That all said I do find the Peg 40 a bit more “lively” than the Vomero 17 and agree the Pegs feel on the firmer side by current standards and perhaps why I think I prefer them in the main. A shoe only for slow days like Vomero 17 or TBH the Peg 40 is a harder “sell” now for me but i do feel should try and do some miles in “simpler” shoes like these.
I’m really enjoying the way the Peg and Vomero 17 work together. It’s nice to have a shoe that basically forces me to go slow while being “mostly” traditional. I miss the Boston 9… I’m not sure how much is nostalgia and how much was run performance and versatility. Regardless, it was a special shoe.
Really enjoying the Vomero 17, much prefer it to the Peg 39/40. Glad to have a Nike trainer I can run in comfortably again. Its not as bulky as the Invincible / ZF5 and more like a "traditional" shoe than those two models so it works well for me. Using it for longer runs as well as my shorter daily runs.
I will always prefer the Peg… but I agree. The Vomero 17 is a much better shoe than the Invincible 3 or especially the Zoom Fly 5. I too am enjoying it still.
The Pegasus 40 is so good that I might get a 2nd pair in a Black Friday deal. I was going to try an Asics Nova Blast 4 or a Puma Magnify Nitro 2 but these kind cushioning daily trainers are everywhere while it is hard to find something close to Pegasus ... and I have tried but did not like the Adidas Adizero SL or the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 .
There is nothing quite like the Pegasus out there anymore. There are a few shoes that have aspects of it, but not the entire package the Pegasus has. Even in the Pegasus 41 things look to be similar…
I loved the video! Great information and the way of delivery was great! I am on the verge of deciding which one to buy -not for running specifically but as a daily shoe. I have the tendency to over prone a little bit and a wide toe area. In that case, what would be your recommendation?
Pegasus 40… the Vomero 17 is a bit unstable. You can also find the Pegasus in a wide version…I find the Pegasus much more comfortable for casual wear as well. 🤙🏻
I actually picked up a pair of Vomero 17 from Taiwan. Have not been back running yet as the coach strongly suggest Intake 2 weeks break from running after my race. Looking forward to give them a test. I actually wear a pair of Peg40 casually (I will need to go up 1/2 if I want to run in them.) Love traveling with them. Now seriously thinking if I should actually get a pair with proper size for my running……or I just use the Vomero as the “daily” trainer.
The Peg is the better shoe here. I’d highly recommend a pair as your daily…. Leave the Vomero 17 for the slow and easy stuff only. Also, I fully agree… Pegs makes excellent casual shoes. It’s what I do with mine when I retire then from running.

The 40 is basically the same shoe with a MUCH better upper… it’s really a great one. Both the Vomero and Peg have their place… definitely not the same shoe.
Great comparison again. As a heavier (255lbs) runner, I have been using the Invincible as a daily trainer. Thinking the Vomero might be worth a shot though. Noticed you appear to parallel lace your shoes, I do this too to allow for my wider foot to fit more comfortably. Would be interested to hear you discus this further and perhaps show how you lace
The Vomero 17 would be a fantastic shoe for you. It would basically be your Pegasus and feel very nimble and light compared to the Invincible 3. The Cushlon 3.0 foam is firm enough to support you AND give you a little bit of pop on toe-off. As for lacing… that’s the way they come laces from Nike. I don’t change anything other than the top eyelets usage (as in I always use the extra eyelet for lacing). I have done some lacing experiments with Vaporfly 2s in the past, to try to save my toes…. But no longer have the issue with the Vaporfly 3 so haven’t thought about them in almost a year. Given the bootie upper on the Alphafly 3 and my bad record with the Alphafly upper… I expect to revisit it next spring. 😂
@@SagasuRunning thanks for getting back to me. I picked up some Vomeros and will report back. I have to play with the lacing on the vaporflys as I find them narrow. I’m on the top end of D width/bottom end of 2E and actually find parallel lacing great to give that extra bit of room. The Saucony Endorphin Pro on the other hand; I cannot get that to work. Constant forefoot numbness.
@@pappas69 The VF always takes some trial and error to learn how to lace it and get the fit right for you foot. It takes a lot of trial and error… but once you do get the right fit and lacing… you’ll be quite happy.
They are similar. The outsole on both is the same rubber, though the Vomero 17 has more rubber on it so maybe that, very slightly. The uppers are very similar too. The Pegasus 40 is the better upper of the two. I will say the new Pegasus 41 is a better shoe than either of these. it also should be more durable.
I had Pegasus 39 for like 2 years I just use them daily walk etc work etc I used them up. The bottom were gone on them. but realized my abductor digiti minimi hurt on the left side of my foot. I got Pegasus 40 now.
Hi, is your vomero a normal or wide fit? I just received my pair, and am finding that the midsole feels quite snug. I do have slighty wider feet. Am not sure whether this is something that will break in fine or I should return. The midsole at the base certainly feels narrower than the pegs. Did you find the same?
I always buy normal with, the Vomero 17 is no different. I don’t have a narrow for but I also don’t have a wide foot. I did find this shoe breaks in after 20-30k, though I’m not feeling any extra width in the forefoot. The midsole did feel narrow to me at first but I think that is the combination of the high stack and soft ZoomX directly under the foot. I have well over 50 miles in the Vomero 17 now and I no longer notice this. The Pegasus 40 is inherently more stable due to being lower and of a firmer foam though. Switching between them now though… I only notice the stack height difference, no real stability issues.
Never say never…. But it’s unlikely. I didn’t pick the B12 up earlier in the year and I’m unlikely to now. I am running alot in the Adios 8 now, which I find a MUCH better shoe, and will have some adidas content coming in Jan.
Do you consider Asics Novablast 4 as a daily trainer? I bought NB4 as a daily trainer that I think I can do long run and tempo + interval workouts. However just because I love the Ekiden Pegasus 40 color way (on sale) I bought that too recently. So I'm thinking maybe use NB4 for runs that are mostly tempo/interval and a bit long/easy. While the reverse for Peg 40, use it for runs that are mostly long/easy and a bit tempo/interval. Just because NB4 is the faster shoe for me because of its rocker and a bit more cushoined for more impact absorbtion for speedier workouts. Any thoughts or advice? Yes, the NB4 is a daily trainer but it's a but more of a cushioned trainer in my mind. It pairs nicely with the peg40, which is more agile and nimble. You have the right idea but I'd reverse them. Use the Peg for short and faster running, including intervals and the NB4 for longer and slow, though ti does do tempo running well. It can be if you like a higher stack shoe for that. But Nike has never positioned the Vomero as an all rounder. They have also positioned it as a high volume trainer, for long runs. In my view a daily trainer needs to be versatile and handle all types of running, from workouts to easy running to tempo work. The Vomero 17 nails easy running but is y for the others aspects.
Love this video...i have always struggled getting a good lockdown on the pegasus to the point where the laces actually start hurting. Might skip the Vomero waiting for the turbo 3 😂...also between the 39 and 40 i enjoyed the 39 way more even though they have the same foam, i just dont get it
Interesting. The 39 was good for my foot, but the 40 was SO much better, especially the lockdown. I'm just not a fan of Nike's recent flywire implementations... it used to be great, back in 2015...but on the 39 it just didn't do much. Also the foam/ride between the 39/40 was the same for my foot, though given the 39 had a slightly snugger fit maybe that changed something for you. The Vomero 17 vs new Peg Turbo 4 is an apples to oranges comparison. Think of the Pegasus 40/41 as the daily trainer partner to the Vaporfly and the Vomero 17 as the daily trainer partner to the Alphafly 3. The upcoming Peg Turbo 4 will be a tempo trainer that could work with either.
@@SagasuRunning i just love the Peg Turbo 2 lol..the only shoe other than the Turbo 2 i have found that has been really fun has been the Rebel V3 after i went a half size up, but after 150-200 miles they bottom out really bad...any reccomendations for daily trainers for a 6'4 200 lbs putting about 25-30 miles a week. I ve the impression that the Pegasus is softer on your achilles tendon, so better for someone who suffers from pain and inflamation there.. would you agree or not?
The Vomero was a great shoe uo to about 12....then it lost its way and they made it more Pegasus like. Which was a bad move (for me). I then moved to buy the Pegasus range as was cheaper and comfier....but now i use Invincible. But if i was going to buy a faster shoe, but still cushioned, id now go to Vomero again as its (once again) responsive with cushioning like it used to be.
I had the Vomero 16. Bad foot slapping and then on one foot (the slapping one) the pod inside the shoe in the front just went flat. Like getting a flat tire. Walking was great but if you try to run you felt the flat pod 😂. I think despite being a heel striker and slow runner the 10 mm drop is to much.

@@Tony-em4cb That’s tough as Nike really doesn’t have any great options currently. The Pegasus is the best one and the Vomero would be the next. Nike has some massive gaps in its lineup at the moment, especially compared to other brands.

The Peg and the VF3 are the only current Nike shoes that I own or would run in at the moment. I’m not running in Pegs at the moment as my pair of Peg40s have over 300k on them and I want to save them for some comparisons for the channel in the coming months (and I don’t want to buy another pair with the Peg41 so close). I did take the VF3 out yesterday for a moderate 10mins (16k) and they were magical as always. I have my eye on 3 Nike shoes in 2024… AF3, Peg41 and PegTurbo… that’s about it. All the other interesting stuff looks to be 2025.
Cushlon is old school EVA…firm and forgettable. ReactX is very airy and soft. It’s hard to say right now as we have only experienced ReactX in one shoe…and the Infinity RN4 was a disaster. Way too unstructured for running so it was hard to know what was the blame… the foam or the shoe design. We will see in 2024 as Nike seems to be replacing all React with ReactX. Cushlon 3.0 is a carrier foam and added to a shoe for a the purpose of stability or protection, like the Vomero 17. You won’t see a shoe with a complete Cushlon midsole l, outside of the real lowend budget models.

@@AnDre-fj5lb As I said. Cushlon is used for stability and protection. The Vomero 17 is designed to be a shoe that rolls you forward. The ZoomX is only in it to provide stepping plushness, not rebound like a Vaporfly. To they added Cushlon 3.0 to structure the shoe so it rolls you forward. It was the perfect combo of foams in my opinion for the ride of the shoe. They didn’t add React as it seems they are removing react from the running lines all together. They didn’t add ReactX… because well… that would have been a mess. The shoe would have been way too soft and squirrelly to be useful. ReactX and ZoomX are essentially designed to provide similar rides, thus the “X” branding.
@@ABucc I got your point but actually disagree there. ZoomX is for the “turbo” edition of the Peg and the Peg41 is moving to ReactX foam, which offers alot of the benefits of ZoomX is a cheaper and more durable package. I’m curious how the Peg41 will feel… I hope it’s not too soft and squishy as that will defeat the purpose of the Peg. Also we will be getting a proper Peg Turbo 3 soon… it’s coming.
Google the “80/20 running”. It’s the idea that 80% of your running should be easy. So that is the majority of your daily running… however daily running also can include workouts like, speed sessions and long runs. So a good “daily trainer” should be able to handle all of that too. The Vomero 17 has easy running down as well as long runs… but it doesn’t have the same versatility the Pegasus has for workouts and speed sessions. Therefore I struggle to call it a daily trainer.
A lot of that comes down to personal preference. For instance, the Pegasus line gets truck loads of criticism, yet Nike have been making and selling them for 40 years. I ran 1000s of kms in their early versions back in the 80s, and now I'm wearing the peg 40 everywhere. It's just so good. And now we're hearing about the peg 41 coming soon.

The Peg 39 didn't have enough cushion for me, wasn't convinced by the Vomero 17 and InfinityRN 4 so went with the Novablast 4, very happy.

Which is the best? In Brazil the Pegasus 40 is 40% cheaper than Vomero 17.
The Peg 40 is a more versatile and useful shoe. If it's cheaper, even better.
I ve the impression that the Pegasus is softer on your achilles tendon, so better for someone who suffers from pain and inflamation there.. would you agree or not?
I would. It has a high drop and is firmer so the drop is real. The ZoomX is super soft in the Vomero 17, especially in the heel.
The Vomero was a great shoe uo to about 12....then it lost its way and they made it more Pegasus like. Which was a bad move (for me).
I then moved to buy the Pegasus range as was cheaper and comfier....but now i use Invincible. But if i was going to buy a faster shoe, but still cushioned, id now go to Vomero again as its (once again) responsive with cushioning like it used to be.
The V17 works for some… but not for me (I have a more recent update video as to why). I will always prefer the Pegasus over it for versatility.
I had the Vomero 16. Bad foot slapping and then on one foot (the slapping one) the pod inside the shoe in the front just went flat. Like getting a flat tire. Walking was great but if you try to run you felt the flat pod 😂. I think despite being a heel striker and slow runner the 10 mm drop is to much.
The Vomero 16 was more of a casual shoe anyway. So your description (of running in it) sounds about right.
what is the real differenze between the nike vomero and nike air zoom vomero?
The older models of the Vomero had Air Zoom units in the midsole… but the Vomero 17 no longer does.
Hi, waiting for the upcoming Pegasus Turbo to FINALLY have a real “competitive” Pegasus (I hope), what would be in Nike current lineup the right shoe for moderate runs (no easy)?

@@Tony-em4cb That’s tough as Nike really doesn’t have any great options currently. The Pegasus is the best one and the Vomero would be the next. Nike has some massive gaps in its lineup at the moment, especially compared to other brands.

To the point I am afraid to try new running shoes because too much disappointment and time spent…
Only pegasus 39/40 I can close an eye… was interested perhaps at the vomero but if less “performant” than P40… no thanks!
The Peg and the VF3 are the only current Nike shoes that I own or would run in at the moment. I’m not running in Pegs at the moment as my pair of Peg40s have over 300k on them and I want to save them for some comparisons for the channel in the coming months (and I don’t want to buy another pair with the Peg41 so close). I did take the VF3 out yesterday for a moderate 10mins (16k) and they were magical as always.
I have my eye on 3 Nike shoes in 2024… AF3, Peg41 and PegTurbo… that’s about it. All the other interesting stuff looks to be 2025.
That v14 screwed up the vomero , didn't buy any Nike after v12, every shoes become so narrow and hate the ear design
V14 was definitely a huge point of divergence in the line. It changed things drastically for the shoe.

Honestly, they about the same. Nike shoes all use a similar last for the upper so the fit for those types of toes would be nearly the same.

what would you say its different between cushlon 3.0 and reactX?
Cushlon is old school EVA…firm and forgettable. ReactX is very airy and soft.
It’s hard to say right now as we have only experienced ReactX in one shoe…and the Infinity RN4 was a disaster. Way too unstructured for running so it was hard to know what was the blame… the foam or the shoe design. We will see in 2024 as Nike seems to be replacing all React with ReactX.
Cushlon 3.0 is a carrier foam and added to a shoe for a the purpose of stability or protection, like the Vomero 17. You won’t see a shoe with a complete Cushlon midsole l, outside of the real lowend budget models.
@@SagasuRunning so cushlon 3 is harder than react? why do you think vomero 17 got cushlon instead of reactx? I think metcon 9 got some sort of cushlon. they are damn hard when running compared to the soft metcon 7-8 react foam.
@@AnDre-fj5lb As I said. Cushlon is used for stability and protection. The Vomero 17 is designed to be a shoe that rolls you forward. The ZoomX is only in it to provide stepping plushness, not rebound like a Vaporfly. To they added Cushlon 3.0 to structure the shoe so it rolls you forward. It was the perfect combo of foams in my opinion for the ride of the shoe.
They didn’t add React as it seems they are removing react from the running lines all together.
They didn’t add ReactX… because well… that would have been a mess. The shoe would have been way too soft and squirrelly to be useful. ReactX and ZoomX are essentially designed to provide similar rides, thus the “X” branding.
The Vomero 17 is what the Pegasus 40 should've been.
Not sure I agree on that one. Though I do think many will prefer the feel of the Vomero 17 for their daily training needs.

@@ABucc I got your point but actually disagree there. ZoomX is for the “turbo” edition of the Peg and the Peg41 is moving to ReactX foam, which offers alot of the benefits of ZoomX is a cheaper and more durable package. I’m curious how the Peg41 will feel… I hope it’s not too soft and squishy as that will defeat the purpose of the Peg. Also we will be getting a proper Peg Turbo 3 soon… it’s coming.

The majority of run should be easy.
So can you define “easy running” vs “daily runs”.
Google the “80/20 running”. It’s the idea that 80% of your running should be easy.
So that is the majority of your daily running… however daily running also can include workouts like, speed sessions and long runs. So a good “daily trainer” should be able to handle all of that too.
The Vomero 17 has easy running down as well as long runs… but it doesn’t have the same versatility the Pegasus has for workouts and speed sessions. Therefore I struggle to call it a daily trainer.

Wow, the Vomero 12… that was a LONG time ago. Yes, the Vomero has changed many times and very drastically since then.
A lot of that comes down to personal preference. For instance, the Pegasus line gets truck loads of criticism, yet Nike have been making and selling them for 40 years. I ran 1000s of kms in their early versions back in the 80s, and now I'm wearing the peg 40 everywhere. It's just so good. And now we're hearing about the peg 41 coming soon.
The Peg41 will be out in June… we shall see how it holds up.

Nike Pegasus 40. The firmer foam will give you more stability, while still giving ample cushioning, for your walks and help those knees.
