    I followed your instructions and you have saved me from buying a new tank. It took me 2 attempts though (wasn’t happy the first time!) Thank you ..

    A seal is to protect from the real silicone seam from leaking. If its leaks. Resealing is still a temporary thing. Remove the glass side that leaks and glue if back again then reseal.

    I've just used the very same stuff to repair the back sump panel on my AquaNano 60. Bought it off Gumtree at night time and didn't notice that it was cracked until the next day. Life lesson learned, but repaired for less than £4 so cannot complain too much!

    I am curious how the tank held up after it was filled. That gap between the panels is giving me Shell Shock. Haha. I've built a few tanks, and I learned the hard way that it is better to just take the whole tank apart when you see an issue like that. It's always gut wrenching because the amount of work involved. That trim would not have been easy to take off, but I couldn't left that gap lol. Simply getting the silicone completely off of the glass can be a nightmare, even with mineral spirits, Goo-Gone, acetone etc. With my 80 gallon I had small bits of residual silicone residue after scrubbing the panels down with Acetone. I decided to let that slide thinking I got enough of it off. I got the tank up, sealed it, let it cure for 2 days.. filled it up with water, let it sit for another 2 days and didn't have a single leak. I brought the tank into my Fish Room, got the tank ready from Substrate to pre-cycled filter. I put my Red Devil into the tank, sat down for 5 minutes to eat dinner, then before I finished my last bite I heard a big loud pop. 80 gallons of water rushing onto the floor.. Luckily I was able to rescue my fish lol. I spent the next several hours with a Shop-Vac cleaning up the water. The next day I broke the tank down and the tank split right down the exact seam where I had left the residue. So I may be a little off the deep end about that gap, but I just couldn't. Although, you did a proper job resealing it. Cool tank.

      its holding great, the top could never have been taken of in one piece cos who ever fixed it the first time got carried away with sis silicone gun lol!! its always best to leave them a day per 2mm of glass thickness so this one was left to cure for 5 days, cheers for watching!!

    You can place packing tape over the outside gap and leave it until cures than remove it for a perfect flat surface. I personally would have just cut the face loose and closed that gap you can use this wedges made from wood to place between the frame and glass while heating it with a common hair dryer, it doesn't need to be hot, just Very warm.

    What is the active ingredients in methylated spirit? Would isopropanol also work to clean silicone residue?

  • @REVOisMYname

    I wonder if there's a way of designing glass that just comes out of the kiln in a natural tank-shape. Like one of those biorb bowls but in a rectangular shape. That way you could effectively get yourself an everlasting fish tank.

      You could, but it would very expensive to produce and would require very precise cooling for it not shatter. I think the only way it can be done is with acrylic.

    Thanks for the video .Couple of Qs .
    Would you recommend removing the silicone between the glass if it’s failing (leaking ) or just remove the internal silicone ?. And now time has passed since this video , do you recommend this sealant or have alternatives you’d recommend more ?.
    Thanks again

    • @DramaticAquatics

      Hi mate if its coming apart in places i would take it to bits carefully & remove all old silicone off then stick back together, any aquarium silicone will do solong as it has no anti fungus in it, good luck man!!!

      @ryanpratt9746 3 года назад +1

      @@DramaticAquatics thanks . No tank seems to be together. (Maybe same tank , fluval Vicenza 260 ?)
      Someone has had a go at sealing it up before and removed the base .
      I plan to take base off cut old stuff out , we’ll do as you did but then as a bunch of sealant and bond the base back to glass to for strength

    • @ryanpratt9746
      @ryanpratt9746 3 года назад

      Thanks again bud .
      All done and sealed up , I used all the information from your video and used the same sealant etc .
      Only issue I found was that I just have taped up too close to edges as when I pulled the tape it lifted the edges of silicone .
      Anyone else reading and having same things , what I did was do away with the tape and use a silicone tool (I used the number 8or 10 corner piece and kept scraping till all excess was scraped away , I ended up with a clean finish this way too ).

    I bought 55 gal for $25 and i need to reseal it also. So my question is do i need to scrape the outer silicone (between the glass but the silicone is flatted outside)?
    Inner silicone i removed already and yes lil wet underneath the silicone.
    Thanks

    • @DramaticAquatics
      @DramaticAquatics  7 лет назад +1

      Only need to take off the internal silicone as the silicone inbetween should be fine so long as the tank has not come apart from itself. cheers for watching & good luck!!

    I recently bought a 65-gallon aquarium and I immediately knew it had to be resealed. This is my first time resealing a tank and I got all of the silicone out from the inside. The thing with that is I think I went inside the seams holding the tank together a little by accident so I feel the edge of the razor blade go inside some parts of the seam just a tiny bit. I'm guessing the new silicone will just fill in the tiny gaps because the silicone that's deeper into the seams will still be strong enough to hold the tank together as there's some excess silicone coming out the other side from a reseal job that the previous owner did. If I reseal the tank on the inside normally, will I be fine?

    I’m about to do this to my tank but wanted to ask is the methylated spirit you used safe for fish? I’m a bit worried about using it. Does it leave any residue on the glass after that may poison them?
    Great job btw hope me and my dad can do it as neatly as that 😀

    • @DramaticAquatics
      @DramaticAquatics  6 лет назад +1

      yes metthylated spirit evaporates so leaves no residue, i have used it for years on all repair and building tanks, you can also use white vinegar. good luck & thanks for watching!!!
