Abdul jabbar may have felt that magic Johnson didn't get his skyhook down all the way but two things we can say for certain is that magic was humble enough to call his the baby hook, and he made a clutch hook shot for the Lakers vs Celtics championship game.
Wonder if Kareem felt the same after Magic hit the hook in game 4 of the 1987 finals. This quote was from 1985 when Kareem was still the primary option
✔️
Jabbar and magic didn't like each other during the time
@@nature-kv3xe hardly. Kareem was aloof with everyone, but they were cordial the whole time and never had drama where it was a distraction. Worthy has said in several interviews that they'd sometimes go to dinner together to settle differences.
Remember that Magic also got a bigger contract by Buss and he wasn't even the team's best player when that happened. Kareem stayed professional about it and didn't make a big deal through the media.
Also, when Riley asked Kareem to take a lessened role in the offseason of 86, he supported it to pave the way for Magic to an MVP season.
Such a sharp contrast to how Kobe and Shaq handled their relationship.
Yes Sir you are so right real-talk I have seen Magic hit that shot live in 87 vs the Nuggets in McNichols Sports Arena
NOBODY shot the sky hook like Kareem. It was a one of a kind exclusively patented by Kareem.
Yup just like nobody shot the fade like wilt... kobe was a great rendition, not wilt quality tho
@@tomguglielmo9805*bill Russell has entered the chat*
@@manz7860 what? Bill was notoriously horrible at scoring. Not sire what your getting at. Wilt averaged 30p 30r against Billy boy lmao
Magic did good with the hook shot he beat Boston with it
@@tomguglielmo9805 since when is bill russelll horrible at scoring?? he was excellent defensively however a few seasons he averaged 14+ and he averaged 19 for a season.
There will never be a player Like this Big Man, only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar can do this. 🇺🇸
Amen.. 🇺🇸
A dude like Rudy Gobert should lock himself in a gym and work on this shot, so he can at least be an offensive threat
Even Mark Eaton had a sky hook shot
If Rudy had the Sky hook consistently he would be one of the best centers in the league
@@alecsanderhamilton9224 Hell, Shaq had a pretty damn good hook 9 feet in.
New kid Victor Wembamyama 😅 should add it also. You are so correct . That guy learning from goofy gobert worries me....
Imagine if curry added a sky hook three. He could average 35 a game.
From LEW ALCINDOR to Kareem he was a tower of force as soon as he walked on the court and never got the recognition he deserves #33 changed the game
The most beautiful shot in all of basketball history!! Kareem was ONE and only. Miss seeing him play!
Kareem. Is. Definitely. a. Goat. Of. The. Big. Men.
Winning time showed Kareem training Magic about the skyhook and the meaning of it.
Winning time is,what magic called the last four minutes of The game.
Magic hitting that hook in the finals was like watching Captain America pick up Storm Breaker😂
Funny thing is magic had a nice hook shot. Even Vlade Divac developed a solid one
God created Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to be the only one to do it correctly
End of story
correct! the skyhook itself is not particularly efficient, Kareem’s skyhook though!!!
@@johnnysecular Kareem Abdul Jabar’s the most elegant, magnificent looking release if there ever was anyone to do so
The most beautiful shot in the history of 🏀...
Yes it is.
MJ fade away is also very nice to watch
@moroccoisback477 Agreed, however, Kobe copied it to the letter, no one will ever be able to copy Kareem...
@@moroccoisback477MJ fade away? You mean Wilt chamberlain fade away? 😅
@@tomguglielmo9805 your giant is a loser, never March bill Russel titles or scoring Kareem. MJ has another size and plays with grace
Magic had a beautiful hook
Its actually a baby hook shot.
This is why there's only one Kareem. It didn't take away from Magic because he did so many other things great.
It is the shot that made Kareem great. 4 years of college that if it was 4 more years of NBA play like Labron had Kareem scoring record would NEVER have been broke!
FACTS!!!!
They both played 20 seasons excuse
@Solo.J Starting at a younger age is a big different. A tennis player who started at 18 has a better change than a tennis player starting at 22. Lebron has over 6600 points from the 3 point line. Kareem only has 1 3 pointer. If you made those 3 pointers count as 2. Lebron is not the leading scorer. Lebron benefitted from an earlier start and the 3 point line. Subtract those factors Lebron isn't even a 10 top player
@@Repunzaagree 1,000%
@@RepunzaHe would still be Top 10. The other things, sure, but let's not get carried away. Kareem is my all time favorite, but this is all speculation. The facts are the facts.
Kareem is the GOAT
Wilt blocked it a few times but it is almost unguardable..
They were uncalled goaltending. You cant block it because the ball immediately goes down wards after the release
Wilt blocked it out of the air when it was near the basket, not at the launching point of the hook. It is much easier to block a shot when it is traveling to the basket than at the shooter's launching point.
@@oneadvocate9517false. Literally video on RUclips young punk.
@@joweydelanota7421 Wrong young buck. He has also blocked at its apex. Stop relying on highlight videos.
@joweydelanota7421 wilt blocked Kareem's signature move five times in one game in the playoffs and 23 times altogether during the playoffs...the referees in the 1970s upheld the rules far more in Wilts era than today...
One game before Wilts devastating knee injury was played between Wilt and Kareem...Wilt dominated kareem and beat Kareem in every way and Wilt wasn't even trying to stop Kareem Abdul-Jabbar because Kareem was Wilts protege...
After Wilts injury Kareem was a better opponent for Wilt but Wilt still holds the edge in wins against Kareem...very few players can say the same...
Shaq had a pretty good lil baby hook he started working a lot with towards the middle of his career.
I always liked seeing the flitted hook. Although it was NOWHERE NEAR this beautiful hook.
Kareem definitely had the best hook in the history. Hands down, obviously
Ask Boston if Magic got it right in 87 game 4.
He got lucky
Jabar learned the sky hook from legendary Coach John Wooden when he was at UCLA. The NCAA had banned the dunk shot (Jabar’s go to shot) so Jabar had to broaden his shooting repertoire and Wooden taught him the shot that made George Mikan (basketball’s first great big man) a dominant force, winning 7 rings in his career.
You have done your homework I see, and you nailed it. At age 61 I have had the chance to watch Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in his younger days as he was going through college, and what a wonderful Journey this is been for him and you have a shot like that Skyhook. Simply amazing!. 🇺🇸 👍🏻
He was shooting hook shots since elementary school. The dunk was never his "go to" shot. When the NCAA banned the dunk, he focused even harder on his hook shot and other shots around the key.
George Mikan has 5 chips and not 7.
@@JAWrightonlineThis
The dunk shot?
If it goes in the hole, the hook is right.
Best comment and enough said.. 👍
Wrong young buck
I hope 2K has finaly made that shot a threat for him as the computer 🖥️💻
Magic did just fine on his sky hook attempts.
Clyde lovellette was doing shy hook long before kareem. Clyde also 1st player to win national championship in college, nba & olympics gold. I new clyde he was our sheriff in vigo county indiana. Also work with his brother in Terre Haute.
I gotta look into that
George Mikan shot the sky hook even before Clyde. Johnny Kerr and Cliff Hagan also had the shot in their repertoire.
Check out Wilt Chamberlain and His Hook Shot!!
Terre Haute is racist
The skyhook is most unstoppable shot in NBA history🍼baby.🔥🔥🔥
KAREEM OF THE CROP 🏀..
Magic did use it a lot i remember the Bulls and Lakers Final.
If Wembanyama adds this shot to his arsenal, he'd be more unstoppable than he is now.
Magic had a beautiful hook with left and right hand.
Skyhook?
Kareem called Magic’s skyhook the “junior skyhook”. Try and find a clip of Magic missing the “junior skyhook”. Seriously. Dig deep. Recall the shot that gave the Lakers a 3 - 1 lead in the 1987 NBA Finals.
ayo kareem aside, this beat is 🔥🔥🔥
Wilt block that shoot more times in 2 years than the rest of nba players in 20
Kareems hook really was like no others. It truly was like a shot, when i do the hook its a whole body movement to gather momentum and catipult the ball up there. His was palming the ball goings straight up with his hand. And at the peak of his jump, a smooth flick of the wrist as his shoulders turn to square up with the basket. Its crazy hard to gather that momentum, transfer it up to your wrist and be straight in posture without huring it up there.
Magic actually did add it to his game it wasn't as DOPE &elegant as CAPS, but magic was able to SHOOT it with both hands! & it added a huge dimension to MAGIC'S game!
Robert Parish had a great hook shot that was overshadowed by Kareem's GOAT hook shot.
Kareem is one of the top 3 players all time and one can argue the goat and I could understand that view.
He was literally throwing skyhooks from 16 feet. Sum people dont understand how good these guys are. They jus played a system unlike today
Thats because Magic's hook shot was the Baby Hook shot or Baby sky Hook, Kareems was the Sky Hook. Glad to see Jokic bring it back and would to see him do it a lot more in games.
Man i miss those days, looking at all my basketball cards waiting to mow another lawn to buy more cards
Victor better start taking notes
Laimbeer covering Kareem's eyes. Classic Laimbeer.
This Kareem fella looks a lot like a pilot named Roger Murdock
Kareem is the best player ever
the skyhook was a product of the no dunking rule. and the rest is history.
Notice how no one has ever been touted as "the next Kareem"? This is why.
Imagine if Wemby adopt this move 😹
the sky hook “un guard-able”? Wilt: hold my beer.
Magic may or may not have been able to hit the skyhook in 1985 but he got better. He never reached Kareem's level of perfection but Magics Jr. Skyhook became an effective weapon in his arsenal.
Kareem contradicts himself here because he has also stated that learning the skyhook isn´t so difficult, the reason why nowadays players don´t use is not because it´s hard to learn but because it´s not cool.
Chris Webber is King of the Baby Hook. Props to Kareem
How to be unstoppable with the sky hook. Step one: be 7'2".
There's a lot of player his height that couldn't do it. It takes immense amount of skill to make sky hook shots consistently
Magic developed a very potent hook shot. It was $. He tortured those smaller guards in the low post. With his passing he was a nightmare to defend from the post. Once Magic added that hookshot he was every bit as good as Bird.
Magic was great at it. He didn't use it as much. When he would run close to the goal he would use his outside hand. Watch his old clips he had his own version (baby hook) and it was money.
Its probably because it was specifically tailored to Kareem.
His height and wingspan definitely added the complexity to the sky hook.
Wilt Chamberlain was able to block it when they played.
But stil kareem hit like 5 Skyhooks and two dunks om him
Kareem scored 50 on Wilty
Wilt swatted Kareem shots 28 times in one series. Blocked ,8 Hooks in 1972 WCF GAME 6. Sent the defending champs home on
One healthy knee
@@smokeyjoe795wilt was older and a knee injury that slowed him down alot
Jabbar is the goat, Number one of all times.
Most players feel a bit uncomfortable jumping off of just 1 leg during this move, even though Kareem was comfortable with it. I truly believe that's why not many people incorporate the 1 legged sky hook into their arsenal, but they do the more often used jump off of 2 feet, hook shot instead
They jump off one leg on a lay up and euro step
The MJ Fadeaway is number 2. 🙏🏾
That explains why not many people do it, i saw Magic, Shaq , Kob and even Kyrie do a baby version but nobody did the real skyhook
They fail the sky hook because most feel they need to do an arc to execute it but Kareem simply brings the ball straight up, then releases it.
Kareem is right. I used the hook shot back in my high school and early college days but its science and balance combined. Being only 6'3 it was hard to get it right against taller folks but it worked for me
Personally I think Kareem has always been jealous of Magic Johnson. Even though Magic was humble and assured Kareem was the captain but Kareem knew when he was on the decline in the mid to late 80's Magic carried him and the team.
Most un-gaurdable shot. Wilt Chamberlain - hold my beer.
Ok, he shot it 20,000 times and been blocked, what 5 times?
@@Repunza Wilt blocked it 2 times in a row on video. Plus when Wilt is played Kareem, it was later in his career. It wouldn’t have been very effective against prime Wilt.
@@96stealthwould’ve liked to see Shaq take on prime Arvidas Sabonas too 😮
That would’ve been interesting 🤔….
@@richarddelgado2723 Honestly Shaq struggled against big guys like him. At the NBA level elite players will score 20-40 points no matter who guards them, but it is noticeable when certain guys just defend better.
@@richarddelgado2723 Would be fun to see though!
Hakeem Olajwaun blocked one in The Forum.
Don't forget wilt and I believe 7 or 8 times the hook shot been blocked
Olujuwan from behind on a layup. I saw game. One on one Olujuwan not a snowball chance. Not even Manute Bol could block it.
@@jessehenderson4931it's one of the hardest shot to block but doesn't matter if was behind or whatever that shot was blocked couple of times like Mark Eaton and wilt just few who did it.
Wilt Chamberlain blocked it several times
Magic won game 4 of the 1987 NBA finals with it.
Magic made one of the most famous Skyhawks in history versus the Celtics in playoffs.....
Dude Trying to Guard Him Then Your Dreams Are SKYHOOK, SKYHOOK, SKYHOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😢😢😢
dude WILT had done sky hook way before Jabbar. Jabbar perfected it though
Wanna learn this shot? George mikan drill over and over again will give you the fundamentals it’s a easy shot to learn nearly impossible to master but I recommend everyone learn it yes even guards who want to shoot from 50ft out you never know when that hook shot will be useful it could make all the difference from a easy bucket or miss
Magic was actually good at shooting the hook shot . Ask McHale, parish and bird 😂
Magic made it better 🔥🔥🔥
Can anyone imagine if Dwight committed himself to learning this, single shot?
Come on he said that in 1985. Magic perfected the shot, yes he perfected it. Shot it when they needed a bucket and oh hey how about 1987 Game 4? Game winner in Magic hook. Magic usually made his in the key.
I might not be that easy to master, but stil I think big men should add it to their arsenal (maybe not spam it like Kareem lol). Guys like hakeem and TD occasionally did successful hook shots. Even with them it's obvious how good it is to have it as like a 3rd or 4th post move.
What kareem was really insanely good at was doing it while jumping. I guess that's ehy it's the "skyhook".
Maybe just maybe the freak coordination and dedication package with height aint there. Like why dont more guys use the Mayweather dedense or the mike tyson offense.
It wouldn't work today.
Back then they had to play Man to man. They couldn't even guard him until he caught the ball.
So the other players would just move to the other side of the floor.
Today they can play zone and just have someone on that side of him taking it away.
Slim and no chance taking it away my brother
Kareem was dominating in college shooting the Skyhook. They were playing zones in college.
he got it right, 1x when it counted the most. for all the marbles.
Magic had very good success with that shot. He even shot a high percentage with it left handed.
Dat skyhook tough as MF to dial inn consistently..
I can remember a time when he got it right!😂
I love ❤️ my nieces and nephews 😁 and sisters and brothers
Magic made a sky hook for a game winner in a Game 7
1 kareem sky hook
2 dirk fade away
2. The MJ fadeway. MJ won a 3 peat off fadeways while leading the league in scoring off fadeaways. 🙏🏾
@blackjesus6433 Yeah but he didn't do it against, Harden KD westbrook, Lebron Wade bash, Kobe gasal Bynum, defending champions, Brandon roy lamarcus aldridge marcus candy raymond felton. All in one playoff run in their prime. With a forty year old hall of famer jason kidd
Magic hit that shot when it mattered most vs. Boston in 1987
Wilt did block it.
And yea correct using "BACK THEN, it was stylish". Looks super corny now.
For every block Wilt got on Kareem's hook shot (2), there are 10 times on film where Kareem scored right over him, even with Wilt in his face.
Magic had the baby hook. Kareem had the sky. I shoot both and they are two completely different hooks.
Correction bro, Kareem's skyhook has been blocked four (4) times throughout his career...it ain't unguardable.
Lol….just 4 times?
@@kingkyoga9263 Correction...By 4 players, but it was blocked 9 times.

@@sonofnam4418Out of how many attempts?
I mean Magic did win an NBA championship famously using the hook shot
Bro called him jabar
There is video of Wilt Chamberlain blocking Kareem's sky-hook twice.
And a video of Kareem hitting 5 skyhooks and two dunks but stil very impresive that wilt blocked it twice
Imagine if Kareem didn't play four years of college, LeBron wouldn't have been close
I will forever say the dreamshake is far more impressive than the skyhook
This comment was made in 85. Wonder if Kareem’s opinion would be the same after the baby hook in 87
I remember Bill Walton saying that Magic actually had a better left handed hook compared to Kareem’s left
So, you're saying Magic shot hook shots better than Kareem?
@@JAWrightonline wow that was a stretch

It really helps that you’re 7’2”. Zen Buddhism and concentration have much much less to do with it.
However Magic scored a huge skyhook at the Boston garden! Just to win the game!
I did it. I used it till I blew out my knee in 2004 at Mcneese State University.

And it doesn't hurt to be about 7'2 when you are shooting it! It is called a "Sky" Hook for a Reason!!🙄😂🤣
