- Do Christian women have to wear head coverings today? This is a question that seems to be more popular today than in times past. Certain movements are teaching that women still need to adhere to this as they did in Biblical times. But, what does the Bible say about head coverings and how should we understand a key passage in 1 Corinthians 11? We will explore that in this video.

There are certain movements that are teaching that women are still required to wear head coverings. But, what does the Bible say about this and how should we apply it to our current context? Let's talk about it!
Should we give each other the Holy Kiss aswell?
My prayer scarves (head coverings) have been a welcomed addition to my wardrobe and most importantly my walk with our Lord. 💗 To wear one has been a constant reminder and comfort for me in being prayerful continuously. It also feels like my God-given beauty is protected from the pervasive eyes of immorally minded men. I would encourage everyone considering this to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide and teach you in this decision for deeper purpose. God bless🕊

I do cover my head when I pray. I had never thought of doing it until God laid it in my heart to do so in 2017. Till today I cover my head when i pray and when I'm in church. But I don't judge people who dont.

Hi Allen. I do not wear headcoverings as I have thought it was specific to the time frame. But, I will say...I have wondered about this several times over the last 30 years
I plan to wear a covering whenever I attend church :) I feel lead by the Holy Spirit to that and I believe others should allow Holy Spirit to lead them in their decisions.
@Maria Smith No ma'am. I am American... However, My Husband is Nigerian and I seen a lot of women wear coverings at our African church; Some women, not all women. That is where I first learned about coverings and I felt like Holy Spirit was calling me to wear it, especially in church.
North America is very different from Africa. In America, we are not really forced to dress a certain way, even for church.
@Maria Smith that’s the covenant of God. If you read Genesis 17 in relation to Galatian 3: 15-29 you will understand why the head covering is important. That’s you obeying God’s authority and your husband or father’s authority. Failure to do so. Matthew 7: 21-23 that will be you in Revelations 20 waiting for the lake of fire 🔥 it’s that plain simple. Be glad you got saved from being cut off. The seed of Abraham will obey and do everything God told him. Jesus did the same and even Rebekah in Genesis 24: 65 as soon as she saw her husband she covered her head immediately. Read the bible my sister and stop being stuck up with the wrong things a lot of women keep doing in front of their husbands and walking in sin day in and day out. The lake of fire is waiting for them. You heard what Jesus said I never knew you cos you lived in sin, that’s again Matthew 7: 21-23. Work your salvation with fear and trembling that’s Philippians 2:12. Even David said I’ve kept your word inside my heart so that I might not sin against thee Psalm 119:11. Be warned

Out of no where I had this strong urge to wear a veil or head covering of some kind. I didn’t even know Christians wear this. No one ever wore them at my church, expect some elderly women but I didn’t know that’s what it was. One day I just felt the need to do research and now I wear them when I pray, on Sunday’s all day, and when I’m in church or watching church. It feels so amazing!

I wasn't even a Christian when God spoke to my heart and told me to cover my head and become a Biblical woman. It was an unmistakable stirring in my heart. God knew I needed modesty to help free me from the ways I was in the world's bondage. I don't judge others who do not cover their heads because I know that God will speak into their hearts what is needed for their walk with him.

💯 agree. None of us are in the same exact walk with God. Whereas He may tell one woman she should wear dresses, grow her hair or wear a bandana as a hair covering He may be working on another to dress more modestly, for her, or stop wearing fake eyelashes and heavy make up. Christians need to remember you have to learn to walk before you can run and we are all in different spiritual/physical conditions.
Amen, I too had a similar experience with the Lord reaching me when I was agnostic and teaching me modesty. I would cover my head when I was alone at home at first, and now being a Christian it became very clear as to why. God bless :)

I've been debating on whether or not to be a Christian Hijabi. About 2 years ago I reconnected with God after declaring myself an atheist. I truly believe that all of his preachings are to be followed, and not just what the Christian culture goes along with. Not only do I find comfort in the thought of a hijab to please God, I am also tired of unwanted attention from men. I don't mean this in a narcissistic way, but I get a lot of attention for my looks, and at first it was flattering but now it's straight up annoying. I'm married and I feel like I'm tempting others by not covering. I really do feel God calling me to wear one.
Please pray for me to gain the courage to wear one!

Allen Parr is always circumventing the word of God, twisting it and making it void and meaningless.
There is no TRINITY. The head covering symbolises the covenant and authority of husband over the woman. It’s a covenant that was made to the seed of Abraham in Genesis 17. The list of verses will clearly make you understand what message God is trying to covey about his covenant and commandments, he said those who love him will keep his commandments in John 14:15. If Adam hadn’t eaten the fruit, God would forgave her because Adam was her head and as long as she had her covering (Adam) nothing would have happened. But because Adam disobeyed his head Christ and Eve disobey her head Adam, God had to punish them and death came to us.
HEAD COVERING
1 Corinthians 11: 1-10
1 Timothy 2: 10-14
Numbers 30: 1-8 especially verse 5-8
Numbers 5: 12-14, 18
Ecclesiastes 5: 2-6
Genesis 24: 65 as soon as Rebekah saw Isaac she covered her head.
The head covering symbolises hierarchy of authority. If a man makes a vow unto the Lord he has to fulfill it. But if a woman does, the husband has the authority to make that vow null and void because her head is her husband and God will forgive it, Numbers 30: 1-8.
When Rebekah asked Isaac’s servant who he was as soon as she was told it was his Master, she put her head covering. That was her respecting the word of God and the covenant since she is also part of the seed of Abraham.
Only the seed of Abraham and the gentiles purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ that obeyed God’s commandments will inherit the kingdom of earth for eternity, it’s in Galatians 3 verse 15-29.
Verse 29 says:
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
There is circumcision of the foreskin, and the heart (human mind)
Jesus is the seed of Abraham, he also was circumcised eight days after birth. Notice Genesis 17: 12-14 even the strangers that were bought by Abraham had to be circumcised.
Then you have Galatians 3: 13-29, that clearly explains what the seed of Abraham has to do and Jesus being the seed of Abraham he purchased Gentiles with his blood & verse 17 clearly clarifies that the covenant God made about the head covering, commandments, circumcision, feasts of the Lord, dietary law is still in full effect to this day and cannot be disannualed.
The head covering has nothing to do with sexuality it’s a covenant women are supposed to follow failure to do so they will get cut off once resurrection comes into the Lake of fire. For a woman it is a symbol of authority and submissiveness to their husbands as well as respecting the covenant of God who gave the authority to the husband over his wife. It’s plain simple. Women preaching in church without head covering and lying about the spirit of the Lord being upon them, God will deal with them. This is what he said to those who didn’t obey his words and did what everyone else did.
Matthew 7: 21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
All I can say is read your Bible 📖 people. Shalom. Work your salvation with fear and trembling Philippians 2:12 don’t let people like Allen Parr deceive you, he doesn’t even understand the word of God at all.
The bible makes it clear what who the Holy Spirit is and he is not equal to Jesus & Jehovah. He is a servant of Jesus Christ he only speaks what he’s told to and do what he is told to. Angel Gabriel, when he visited Zechariah the father of John the Baptist in & Mary the mother of Jesus, the account will tell you also how John the Baptist was filled with the holy spirit in his mother’s womb read, Luke 1: 5-45. Gabriel was a Holy Spirit, so as Michael because they did as they were told. Gabriel struck Zechariah with muteness because he did not believe the word of God and the bible also defines the Holy Spirit
Exodus 23: 20-23
20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.
22 But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.
To which Jesus said about the Holy Spirit in John 16
John 16: 7, 12-15 verse 13-15 pay attention and it says
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Then Jehovah made it plain clear cos he knew people like Allen Parr will cause people to worship angels cos the fallen Angels that fell are called Evil spirits and the Angels that stayed with God are called Holy Spirits, so if you’re talking about the Holy Spirit you need to tell us which one. Cos God send Michael to deal with Lucifer. He sent Gabriel to Daniel, Mary and her cousin Elizabeth that they were to have sons Jesus and John the Baptist.
Notice Gabriel spoke what he was told and did what he was commanded to do he left Zechariah mute. Exodus 23: 20-23 reinforces what the Holy Spirit will do and his authority and how he present himself to you. Moses saw a burning bush, Joshua like Moses was told the same thing to take of his shoes, that’s what the Holy Spirit does.
Then Apostle Paul cleared that whole trinity nonsense
Hebrews 1:5-9
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"?
6 And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him."
7 Of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, and his ministers a flame of fire."
8 But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions."
You can know about all of this if you read the Bible 📖. Be blessed and do not be deceived by Allen Parr the spirit of truth is not in him

@@obaapamoses6632 oh, because brother Allen believes that God only speaks through the Bible, and that if you say "God told me", you are trying to make yourself look like a prophet. Go into His channel. You'll find him talking to a woman named Melissa about this. He also talks to Jon McCray, and he does a video bashing people who prophesied that Trump would win. For some reason, he is against the idea of Christians having direct communication with God today, even though we live with Holly Spirit and He is always speaking. Even with the Trump thing, I wouldn't be too quick to call the prophets who said he would serve twice "false", because Samuel said to Saul "this day, you are no longer king of Israel", but Saul went on to rule for 15 more years. Does that mean Samuel was a false prophet? No. In the spiritual realm Saul was done that day. So I just say we wait it out even with the Trump thing, and not be too quick to call people false prophets.

It you read it in Greek, there's actually TWO different words used for covering and one of those two words is used only one time when referring to hair. They're different things
1. Sign of authority
2. To pray
3. To prophesy
4. Because of the angels

It was helpful for me to think of other things in the Bible that were signs for an angel.
-Blood on the lintel and doorposts
-mark of God's children in Revelation
So this would seem to be a symbolic mark so that angels can identify those women that are in submission to God's order, embracing the gender role created for them.

Hello Samantha. Please do not just trust the man in the video who speaks many of his thoughts about things Paul said nothing about when he (Paul) explained this topic to the Corinthians and us. It is best to read the Bible and not go with what someone is trying to tell you in a video. I speak from the Bible, not from my own thoughts. I have studied the Bible for many years. I find no contradictions as many preachers speak. Reading these passages by Paul, It is very easy to understand, (if someone is not simply wanting to make a reason why they don't have to do something). Please realize, when Paul talks about a woman's hair and her head being covered. The head covering when she prays or prophesies is not her hair and it is not about gender identification. Nor does it have anything to do with temple prostitutes. Please think about the verse and replace "covering" with "hair" to easily realize this. "If she have no covering (hair) then let her head be shaven." Why shave a woman's head who is already bald? That surely makes no sense. Now you can see. It is an actual covering being spoken of. And nowhere does it talk about temple prostitutes or because of gender identity. This is about wrongly equally the head of woman to man as being made in God's image.
Paul even stated this as well. It matters not the length of her hair or if she applies the customs of men in her culture. If she is doing that, she is already way off from the natural differences God placed for man and woman to have. This is about authority and order according to God. (Not covering a man's head and dishonoring God since the man's head is in the image of God, and covering the woman's head in order to not dishonor God by equally her head to that of a man made in God's image) If anyone wants to disagree (I am not saying you do), those people need find another religion, or make their own, as many people in essence do when they go against what is written within their own religion. We should follow Paul's teachings literally. I believe we should follow all of God, and Jesus, and Disciples, and Prophets of the Bible literally. We don't get to apply our own ideas of what we can do based on what we want or do not want to do. That's why there are so many religions (and different sects within them) in the world today. People putting their own thoughts into what God said. You prayed. Follow God and our Lord Jesus Christ, and learn from the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God/ Truth). You don't have to wear a covering. A woman's hair is her covering. Paul was giving his advice on what they asked. And if anyone continued reading those verses, at the end Paul said if anyone wants to argue about the subject, that they have no such tradition of head coverings.

Although I believe there are cultural differences in which type of head covering we may use (hat, veil, turban, headband, etc), I believe that the practice of head covering was meant to transcend culture. Just cause something is cultural does not mean it’s right. There are plenty of cultural things that go against God’s word. Also, isn’t most of what the Bible teaches us counter-cultural?
I still haven’t found anything in the Bible that tells me that head covering is no longer required of us, but after some researching I did find out that it was practiced in the church for thousands of years up until the feminist movement. People understood what the symbol of head covering meant and hated it so much that the National Organization of Women even called for a “national unveiling” back in 1968 where they would burn their head covering as a way to “protest the second class status of women in all churches.” Not wearing a head covering for them was a way to show their rejection of God’s established order of headship. I know that’s not why most women don’t head cover anymore, but after learning that, not covering didn’t sit well with me anymore, so I’ve been covering for the past few months and I’ve learned so much about submission, meekness, humility, modesty, headship, etc. 1 Corinthians 11 has so much more to teach us than we even realize.

I started veiling my head as I felt called to do so, to live a modest life that wards off unwanted attention. It's crazy how when I had my "conventionally attractive" loose curls out, it literally "compelled" men to stop infront of me with their cars, harass me in stores and bother me practically everywhere I go. I think veiling is great to show my modesty and provide me a level of protection from the male gaze. And I do believe that my true husband will adore me for beyond my hair, he will see my other qualities and once he sees my hair, it will be hopefully a pleasant surprise.

The male gaze is just about overflowing vulnerable women. They’d never go near a confident assertive woman, modest or not.

It’s gets easier as you get older as surprisingly men become less interested hehe. On a serious note I prefer to educate men about their behaviour when I’m made uncomfortable, but in a safe environment, as that is where the issue lies not with hair, clothes etc, but appreciate not all people have the confidence. I am lucky to be in a country with generally good laws that protect all and striving to educate men to reduce harassment. Also a good God wouldn’t be concerned about covering or not covering hair and a good person equally would see beyond that. Do what makes you comfortable.

I wear a head covering daily mostly because my actual hair is a mess most days! Also when I’m alone with God I always cover my head in prayer and worship. I do believe this is something God will convict on however and shouldn’t be something people pressure women to do.

I wore a head covering in public today. Wow did I get treated differently. 😬 I wore it because it’s cold and my hair is wet. I usually wear one in prayer. I was going to take it off before entering the store. I heard a voice say NO leave it on! So I obeyed and wow 😯 special treatment. Very respectful. Everyone was super nice.

For many in the head covering movement this mixture of verses draws more problems as it hurts the argument for those who adhere to wearing veils only under two conditions. Since the argument is that women are to wear a veil or hat for a couple of moments in time and/or only during what they interpret to mean “public” worship and not for practically 24 hours a day, every day for the rest of their lives.
It is evident that the “24-hour argument” has to reject the idea that it is only worn during public worship or any brief moment. Extremists will wear them night and day but yet there are practical questions that need to be answered regarding changing clothes, washing and sleeping. People who are not so extreme and have no problem taking it off during these moments have told me (in order to justify and rationalize wearing their veils throughout the day) is that to avoid constantly putting it on and taking it off they might as well leave it on. So it is more convenient to leave it on. The problem is that within certain sects that admit that they simply keep it on for convenience have strict rules with no option to take it off even if they are not praying. And if they are seen without it they might get a strict lecture. This type of reasoning is how man-made doctrines are formed.
I almost have no doubt that this must be causing some veil promoters to live in a very confusing bubble, especially those who use the two-condition argument and at the same time claim it out to be worn nearly all the time. For on the one hand, they argue that the covering is a veil that one puts on when praying or prophesying but on the other hand, it is required to be worn nearly all the time. So, it’s ok to preach that it is removable but in practice, they have their women BOUND to wear them and not take them off regardless of whether they are praying or prophesying. This is very inconsistent.
This one misinterpretation causes a snowball effect by creating an array of issues, which is not biblically supported.
Also, if a woman should cover her head with a hat or veil all the time because she should always be praying then this should also mean that a man should NEVER have his head covered because he should always be praying all the time as well.
But men wear all kinds of head coverings for various reasons on a day-to-day basis and it is not considered a sin. For example, during winter a bald man would wear a hat to insulate his head against the cold, and a man that works in construction would and should wear a helmet for safety purposes. If we were to accept that, unlike verses 4 and 5 explicitly state, 1st Corinthians 11 teaches women to ALWAYS wear head coverings, then we are also saying men should NOT wear a head covering at any time. The latter proposition is clearly not reasonable and thus makes of no effect this interpretation.

In Timothy the Bible tells us to rightly divide the Word. Understand Paul was writing to converted Jews who found it hard to leave their customs. Others wanted to drop everything and go wild. Note that non- Jews were not asked to keep these customs. What Paul was attempting to do was maintain order as they came to know their freedom in grace. You on the other hand have never lived that way so how can you say GOD is telling you to live Jewish?

When I was younger I read that passage and no one at my church could explain to me why we do not wear head coverings as women and why we do not wash each other's feet. They tried to tell me it wasn't a requirement but I always felt that the verse said what it said. But since I wasn't married and the veil was a symbol of the authority of the husband, I told myself I would revisit it when I'm married. Today marks the third week that I've been married and Allen posted that video. I am also wearing a head covering at the moment (mostly because my hair is a mess but still...). I do not think it's a coincidence.

Paul was giving his advice on what they asked. A woman doesn't have to wear a covering because her hair is her covering. If anyone continued reading those verses, at the end Paul said if anyone wants to argue about the subject, that they have no such tradition of head coverings.
1 Corinthians 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
The church I grew up in did both! Lately this has been a question in my spirit so I'm going to get some.
I wear a head covering any time I am in church or in personal prayer. This is because the bible says to do so and also after praying over the issue the Lord laid it in my heart to wear a head covering during worship and prayer time, because it pleases Him.

For the the Christian women to cover her head, it is the word of God. Yes they should cover their heads. It is not for the man to force the women to cover their heads, but to teach it and leave it when they understand it. It is a personal thing between the woman and the Lord. Jesus say if you called me Lord then why you don't do what I say. They are many who received Jesus as their saviour but not their Lord. To give an eg. In the book of Isaiah chapter 6:2 the seraphims (angels) cover with their wings whenever they are in the presence of God. So in Corinthians it says because of the angels. When the body of Christ meets together, their are angels that gather around us to learn the manifold wisdom of God and the are looking on to see if the women are keeping the Devine order. When I first got saved, I was newly transformed back to my natural hair but still wearing wigs. Later I was convicted on the wigs then I was convicted on how much attention I was giving to my natural hair. Later, again I was convicted over and over about wearing a head covering when I pray and even when I go out because the Lord revealed to me how much of a distraction my hair was. Even at church my sisters would say how much they love my hair and it was distracting them from focusing on God and I was always trying to make it look good for church. (It became an idol/god)
I truly believe that this is an individual conviction and God convicts who he pleases. It’s up to us to obey. Covering my head was hard at first but the Lord comforts me always and reassures me why I need to be covered, not just my head but all of me. He wants me to be Holy, set apart and focus on him wholeheartedly.
If someone needs a prayer, I’m always covered and ready to help. It’s truly humbling for me. We are called to be humbled as well. We are to do the Lord’s will not matter the time or culture.

I just had this conversation with my husband and self a few months ago. I've found that wearing my covering when out makes me FEEL covered and I like that feeling. This is one of the most brilliant passages in the Bible for me. Paul did a Solomon and amazingly weaved in more than one message from God with one subject. My husband covers my head, and I am grateful that I can style my head with my hair and/or with beautiful church hats or scarves, etc.
Great video, Allen! As someone who grew up around head coverings but doesn't wear one today, this is such a tricky topic because it partly has to do with the heart! I don't not believe head coverings should be forced onto anyone especially when considering manners and customs during the Bible times; however, it could be a beautiful display of affection and/or obedience for God when an individual willingly makes the decision to do so after examining the Bible and praying for guidance. I would caution that wearing an head covering is only for the Lord and does not make that person in any way superior to those who do not.
This! I grew up Amish and now that I plan to leave soon I'm trying to find more information on this subject. I just feel like the head covering is a symbol more than an actual requirement. I mean,is God really going to keep me out of Heaven just because I don't wear a head covering? I can't believe he would. Also I have a neighbor who stopped wearing a head covering after she left the Amish and a mother and sisters who wear one. When I look at their lives,I ask myself,which of these women do I feel is more Christlike? Whose example do I want to follow? And it's my neighbor. So my choice is not to wear the head covering
@@rosegarland7038 I like what you said here because of how accurate it is. I've met many self-righteous women who belittle and look down upon other women for not being “godly” enough. While I do believe the principle behind head coverings is essential and transcultural, I've noticed it’s tip-toeing towards idolatry. Almost the same way having children has become. Whatever a woman chooses to do, women should remember to remain humble and focus on God. Head coverings don't make you holier than others.
I don't know where I stand on this issue (I'm female), but the point you made about short hair on women being a culture thing made me pause... The same nation that thinks women with short hair is fine also thinks men wearing dresses is empowering, abortion is loving, same-sex marriage is natural, etc... So maybe we should follow Paul's teachings literally in order to be separate from the world?
But also I think not every woman is able to grow their hair out for multiple reasons...

@@kngnk815 yes but for example my mom’s family is North African and some of the women can’t grow their hair long to even be cut; I guess what I am saying is it’s not all a cultural issue, there are circumstances where women can’t grow hair to be a « covering » ; hence the need for a actual covering either scarf or fabric.
The main principle for the whole pericope (1Cor11:2-16) is HEADSHIP. Particularly the HUSBAND is the head of the WIFE. It is to solve the problem in Corinth, there are contentious wives (verse 16 and succeeding chapters) that possibly offends Jews, Gentiles and other churches of God (Chapter 10:32). Head coverings, order of creation and long/short hair are just supporting arguments to solidify the main principle Paul is preaching. These are arguments from ALREADY ACCEPTED BELIEFS by Corinthians (regardless if they are subjective/objective truth) i.e. argument from CULTURE (headcovering), CREATION (Adam and Eve) and NATURE (Long/short hair as glory/shame).
It is NOT a problem in Corinth that there are women who do not cover their head, or do not believe in the order of creation, or that there are women that cut their hair short... they BELIEVE THESE ALREADY,.... reason why Paul used these "already accepted beliefs" to strengthen his argument that the husband is the head of the wife... in order to solve the REAL PROBLEM in corinth... i.e. contentious women that causes others to be offended.
In any case, the overriding principle is LOVE for your fellowmen, not to offend them so they can be saved (Chapter 10:33)
Paul's intention is NOT to require wearing of headcovering or long hair PER SE for all time, for all culture... But for all Christians for all time and culture to imitate him in observing the absolute truth of love or AGAPE (1Cor11:1), i.e. not to put a stumbling block to anyone towards worshiping God (1Cor10:32). And it is offensive to see contentious women in the church... Why? Because the husband (whose head is Christ) is the head of the wife. There are Corinthians who do not know or do not observe this PRINCIPLE (verse 3 starts with a reprimand "BUT I would have you know... ")
The three supporting arguments of Paul to build his main theme of headship, are merely symbols (NOT commandments on their own). Symbols with meanings (tied in their culture) that are COINCIDENTLY perfect to be used to illustrate TO THE CORINTHIANS why the husband should not be headed by the wife, and why the wife should be headed by the husband(whose head is Christ, a real christian)
If things were different, for example, the problem of contentious wives happened here in the Philippines, Paul would have used different accepted symbols/arguments to show what the God ordained headship in marriage looks like. Paul might have used that it is shameful for men to wear skirt (as it symbolizes a husband is being headed by his wife), this is the MEANING of this symbol in my country (at least more so in the 60's 70's).
Again, the problem is not about the non-observance of these symbols (headcovering, long hair) or non belief of the creation narrative. The problem is the non observance of some wives on the God ordained PRINCIPLE of headship that causes or might cause a stumbling block for others (Jews, Gentiles and churches of God).
This is a very convuluted passage on the point of view of someone living in 2021 with a very different cultural mindset. So historical, social, cultural, Biblical context is very important in order to have a coherent understanding of the Scripture.
I do not want to go in details about literal circumcision and other legalistic rituals that emphasizes on the outward appearance instead of the what is really important for God... THE INNER MAN. Something to think about.

But verse 10 clearly says a women ought to 'wear' a covering as a *symbol* of authority. So I do. It tells everyone that that I practice this with no contention for God has placed my husband over me and I love the Lord so it is with a happy heart that I wear a covering in submission to that authority. :)

Show her I Corinthians 11. Allow her to find fault if she can. It all comes down to you. You are responsible for the truth when you learn it. You have to make account for yourself not your mom.

HIS POINTS DO NOT SEEM TO MATCH WHAT THE SCRIPTURE SAYS. HERE IS THE REPLY I GAVE HIM:
YOU MADE MANY INCORRECT POINTS: 1. You ask if it is the PRINCIPLE or the PRACTICE, which is important, but in 1 Corinthians 11:2, Paul praises the Corinthians for "HOLD [ING] FIRMLY to the traditions, JUST AS [HE] HANDED THEM DOWN TO [THEM]" (communicating that the actual PRACTICE is important}.
2. You state that practices may differ based on cultures or where you live, but Paul says that THE PRACTICE is to be performed DUE TO MAN BEING THE IMAGE AND GLORY OF GOD, WOMAN BEING THE GLORY OF MAN, WOMAN BEING MADE FOR MAN AND BECAUSE OF THE ANGELS, which means that IT IS NOT BASED ON CULTURE, BUT ON THE NATURE AND PURPOSE OF MANKIND'S CREATION AND THE EXISTENCE OF THE ANGELS (v. 7-10), and SINCE THOSE REASONS STILL EXIST, SO DOES THE EXPECTATION TO PERFORM THE PRACTICES.
3 NOTHING IN 1 CORINTHIANS 11:1-16 says that the instructions are for PUBLIC GROUP WORSHIP, as:
a) Paul says "EVERY man" and "EVERY woman" without (even once) giving any indication as to venue
b) verse 16 says that "if anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, NOR DO THE CHURCHES OF GOD", implying that he was addressing all INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR (as opposed to saying 'neither do the OTHER churches of God [which WOULD HAVE indicated that he was solely addressing 'IN-CHURCH BEHAVIOR'])
c) Paul doesn't start talking about behavior DURING PUBLIC WORSHIP UNTIL VERSE 17, when he gives instruction about 'The Lord's Supper' as he mentioned FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES, that he was ADDRESSING PUBLIC WORSHIP BY STATING: "For first indeed, of you COMING TOGETHER IN AN ASSEMBLY" (v. 18), "of you COMING TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE" (v. 20), "do you despise THE CHURCH OF GOD" (v. 22) and "COMING TOGETHER in order to eat" (v. 33) (which is why all examples which you gave for instructions for 'group worship' come from AFTER 1 Corinthians 11:16).
4. You said that in that culture, a woman with a covered head showed submissiveness to her husband, therefore a man who covers his head shows submission to someone else, is reversing roles and blurring gender lines; HOWEVER, THE SCRIPTURE DOESN'T SAY ANY OF THAT, or that the instructions were based on that. There is no mention of 'blurring gender lines' or 'role reversal', but the propriety of the practice due to the nature and purpose of the creation of mankind and because of the angels (v. 7-10).
5. You said that a woman who does not cover her head dishonored her husband, but THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY THAT "HEAD" EXCLUSIVELY REFERS TO A "HUSBAND", BUT TO "MAN". JUST AS GOD IS THE HEAD OF CHRIST, BUT IS NOT CHRIST'S HUSBAND (BUT HIS FATHER), HEAD may refer to an authoritative man (possibly, whether living or dead) WHO IS NOT THE WOMAN'S HUSBAND.
6. You claim that in our culture women can shave their head and no stigma is attached, so it is O.K. for them to pray or prophecy uncovered, but, it only takes one generation to normalize a practice which is wicked (such as transgenderism in this generation) so normalization of a practice WHICH THE BIBLE SAYS IS SHAMEFUL (v. 5) is not a bar for holiness as gender lines started crossing a few decades ago [but even today, a woman can still see a natural shame in one's shaving her head bald]. Further, 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 state, several times, that the instructions are to be followed, for multiple reasons; but never said a woman does not have to follow the instructions if they do not find a shaven head to be shameful.
7. You said that many theologians believe that , in that culture, prostitutes had their heads shaved (though you stated that there is no solid proof for that) and said that the shaved head communicated immoral culture, rejecting femininity and that a woman praying with her head uncovered was demonstrating same level of rebellion as a prostitute HOWEVER, NOT ONLY DOES THE BIBLE NOT STATE ANY OF THAT, but, even IF temple prostitues shaved their heads, THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY THAT THE HEAD COVERING INSTRUCTIONS ARE BASED ON THE PRACTICE OF TEMPLE PROSTITUTES (or, as an example: construction workers do not wear hats because America likes fashionable hats / there is no direct connection between the two), AND THESE SCRIPTURES DO NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT SEXUAL IMMORALITY, BEING AVAILABLE TO OTHER MEN OR TAKING DOWN THE HAIR, SO you are IGNORING THE SCRIPTURAL REASONS for the practices (the nature and purpose of the creation of mankind and the existence of the angels) and NEGATING GOD'S SCRIPTURAL INSTRUCTIONS, based on REASONS THAT THE SCRIPTURE DOES NOT PROVIDE.

When i real got saved(was saved before but not serious) in april 2020, i got a conviction on holiness but as we of now i have started covering my head with cotton scarfs and preferably cotton, no short sleeves,no more tights, no more gyming,no more trousers, no more nail polishing,jewelery,no more tights(skirts,dresses and inner bikers), and now am still struggling with alot of these but i have to for obedience purposes. I am to remove my iud soon i also were sockings now especially with open shoes. Still praying about eggs n chicken but am hopeful for God to answer me.

You can be feminine and still believe in social, political and economical equality between men and women (aka feminism). They are not mutually exclusive. This verse illustrates that men and women are equal (i.e. both worthy of the same regard, respect, honour, dignity, consideration, etc.) even though they are different (one being weaker) since they both inherit the same grace of life. We can be different and still be equal. Using equity (difference in treatment dependent on the need in order to achieve fairness), we can achieve equal enjoyment of life that we've all inherited from God.
"Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered" (1 peter 3:7-9).
If you understand that weaker does not mean lesser, not every other man shares your opinion. That's why feminism exists. There are still men who are killing women for rejecting them. There are married men who are raping their wives, etc. Femicide is still a thing all over the world.
I've heard a guy from church saying submission means that women are subservient to men and no one checked him. If you don't want to see feminism, make it irrelevant by fighting the root cause of its existence. Feminism is not a bad thing in itself. Just like anything else it can be misused, misinterpreted or misunderstood but its core idea is equality among human beings irrespective of their genders and that's Godly. Just like anything godly it is attacked by the ennemy. If it wasn't for feminism, your mother wouldn't have the right to vote or work.
Judging feminism on the basis of its extreme interpretation is the same as judging Christianism on the basis of its twisted interpretations. Anything can be perverted.
Also, we need to understand that the way our cultures define femininity is completely subjective. Many traits that are attached to femininity are things that God requires from both men and women. The same applies to some of the masculine traits defined by society. Courage and strength categorised as masculine traits are things that God expects from his people regardless of gender (Joshua 1:6; Ephesians 6:10, Psalm 27:14, etc.). Likewise Kindness and gentlessness (both fruits of the spirit) along with humility and modesty are things that God expects from all his people regardless of gender. But those are regarded as feminine traits in society. Does that mean a man that displays those qualities is less manly or effeminate? Or are we going to deny a woman her feminine nature because she lacks some fruits of the Spirit?

When I was Secular I would wear my hair long and dyed auburn after going through a personal storm in my life. I wanted to freely give myself to the Lord I stopped wearing my hair down and perming it. Now I have a kinky afro and plenty of wraps it was so refreshing and new. To discover I was not only my hair but I was someone's wife and Gods child. When the Holy Spirit touches you it personifies who you truly are within. Like I stated before it's a personal choice for me and it gives me as a Woman a sense of Humility. I really appreciate that you break it down to the deeper layers... principles v practices. God has been healing me from some things and the journey has been quite amazing. Things get quite scrambled for me and getting them out can be quite difficult. I often use too many words. "Principles v practices" helps sum up a big portion of ways God has been healing me.
It also gives me a little more "excitement" about reading the bible again. I walked away from the church a long time ago because it seems like every church I go to are focused more on practices rather than principles, and getting the boxes checked off perfectly. They all SAY they want to get real, but when I trust that I find out they were lying... they really want no part of it. I literally had to walk away from the church because all the noise around going to church was a distraction for me in regards to focusing on God. I wasn't focused at all on learning what my personal relationship with God looked like because I was so focused on whether or not I was serving as much as I should have, or feeling defensive explaining that as a single mother I should be exempt from certain expectations, and instead rallied around rather than judged for assumptions that weren't even true, but most never bothered to learn the actual truth. (There have been a few exceptions along the way, but the majority of experiences have been negative and not about God at all, but rules and popularity contests.
After walking away from the church my relationship with God began to soar. The catalyzing prayer was "God please show me my beauty through Your eyes!"
I've seen some hints in various areas of my life where God seems to be "highlighting" the idea of reading the bible again, and maybe being in church again. I'm open to the idea, but believe it is still a ways off regarding church... but reading the bible again seems to be around the corner. I'm going to enjoy using this "filter" when applicable to help decipher different perspectives on passages. Thank you for the "tool."
i started covering my head and dressing more modestly because i was tired of being a stumbling block for men and women, as-well as not being taken seriously as a christian because of how i was previously dressing, I've even had a situation of me telling someone about God and them just commenting on my looks ..i wish i were jk. it's also helped me feel safer overall, im not being followed off the bus anymore which used to happen 2/5 times i took the bus and ppl just arent distracted anymore and im not uncomfortable anymore. it mainly started with the Holy Spirit convicting me tho. i find modesty so empowering.it's also started conversations about God between many of different faith and non believers and it's become really helpful in spreading God's word to these people

Someone else's issue with lust is not your burden to bear. If that's the case, you should wear a birka and cover your whole self head to toe. We don't stop eating around people who struggle with gluttony. We keep eating. Sis, if you're beautiful, praise God for that. You don't need to look "blah" in order to not be a stumbling block for others. They need to get their heart right before the Lord and get their eyes off of you. In the last church I attended most of the women covered their hair. I was new in the faith and so I began covering my head as well, although not 100% convinced it was necessary. I have to say that it did make me feel SO much closer to God when I was wearing it and praising/worshipping Him. There was something so humbling about it and made me feel as though I was honouring God in a different way. I’m still not certain on where I stand with the issue of head coverings (although I’m leaning more towards the side of wearing it) but that was my personal experience with it. God bless 🙏🏽

It is to solve the problem in Corinth, there are contentious wives (verse 16 and succeeding chapters) that possibly offends Jews, Gentiles and other churches of God (Chapter 10:32). Head coverings, order of creation and long/short hair are just supporting arguments to solidify the main principle Paul is preaching. These are arguments from ALREADY ACCEPTED BELIEFS by Corinthians (regardless if they are subjective/objective truth) i.e. argument from CULTURE (headcovering), CREATION (Adam and Eve) and NATURE (Long/short hair as glory/shame).
It is NOT a problem in Corinth that there are women who do not cover their head, or do not believe in the order of creation, or that there are women that cut their hair short... they BELIEVE THESE ALREADY,.... reason why Paul used these already accepted belief to strengthen his argument that the husband is the head of the wife... in order to solve the REAL PROBLEM in corinth... i.e. contentious women that causes others to be offended.
In any case, the overriding principle is LOVE for your fellowmen, not to offend them so they can be saved (Chapter 10:33)
Paul's intention is NOT to require wearing of headcovering or long hair PER SE for all time, for all culture... But for all Christians for all time and culture to imitate him in observing the absolute truth of love or AGAPE (1Cor11:1), i.e. not to put a stumbling block to anyone towards worshiping God (1Cor10:32). @@rere8635 I feel the same way. I was going to pit in comments this exact same thing. Nobody must not have read further down to verse 15 the hair is the covering. I don't feel as though we have to do this in present time like days of the past. But there is nothing wrong with wearing the covering.

God speaks through you, as I have been trying to cover my head while I pray but often just plain forget. I don’t judge any woman who chooses not to cover, but I really want to practice it. Im not sure why you were trying to cover your head, but just know that you don't have to cover your head if you don't want to. It's not required. Paul was giving his advice on what they asked. A woman doesn't have to wear a covering because her hair is her covering. If anyone continued reading those verses, at the end Paul said if anyone wants to argue about the subject, that they have no such tradition of head coverings.

After studying this passage, it doesn't say that the covering is temporary or up for debate or cultural. It is important to the Lord that I do this and I will continue to do so in obedience to His Word.
You didn’t watch the video, or you don’t understand the concept of principle vs practice as explained in the video. I think if you want to wear a head covering and feel convicted to do so; go for it. I would draw a line at telling others they are required to do the same, which in your defense, you haven’t done here.
To bolster my point: do you also follow Deuteronomy 22:-12 or Numbers 15:38 and their commands about tassels on clothing?

@@Rachel-nb2vn Jesus came to fulfill the law, indeed, but He upheld all the 10 commandments. In fact, He made them even stricter. Hateful thoughts equal murder, lustful thoughts equal adultery. The 10 commandments are part of the principles Alan was talking about in this video. Regardless of culture, or the times, these principles apply and Jesus upheld the commandments. The “laws” that Jesus fulfilled were regarding necessity for animal sacrifices, food restrictions, etc. Those are the “practices” Alan was talking about in this video. Point being if you’re going to follow the practices like headcoverings then why not feel convicted to follow all of them, like the tassel example I gave?? The answer is because practices like head coverings are absolutely not sinful to wear, but also not sinful to NOT wear.

It says if you don't cover your hair, you might as well shave it off. This verse in context couldn't mean that long hair in itself is the same as the fabric covering, because if it was, this would just be a command for woman to have long hair.

YOU MADE MANY INCORRECT POINTS: 1. You ask if it is the PRINCIPLE or the PRACTICE, which is important, but in 1 Corinthians 11:2, Paul praises the Corinthians for "HOLD [ING] FIRMLY to the traditions, JUST AS [HE] HANDED THEM DOWN TO [THEM]" (communicating that the actual PRACTICE is important}.

You state that practices may differ based on cultures or where you live, but Paul says that THE PRACTICE is to be performed DUE TO MAN BEING THE IMAGE AND GLORY OF GOD, WOMAN BEING THE GLORY OF MAN, WOMAN BEING MADE FOR MAN AND BECAUSE OF THE ANGELS, which means that IT IS NOT BASED ON CULTURE, BUT ON THE NATURE AND PURPOSE OF MANKIND'S CREATION AND THE EXISTENCE OF THE ANGELS (v. 7-10), and SINCE THOSE REASONS STILL EXIST, SO DOES THE EXPECTATION TO PERFORM THE PRACTICES.

I cover my head when praying, in worship and/or in church. I hadn’t done this until God convicted me last year; along with makeup and heels.
Why? Question. So if i cover my head in prayer and in church. Does a cap work? If i have long braids? I cant cover my whole head and do i have to cover my head constantly? Like at work? Or just sitting at home or out to eat? Im trying to learn...

We all are different. For example, some people use lavender oil to relax, but for some people the smell of lavender oil is too strong. Same way, some women like to cover their head. Some women don't.
For ex:- I don't like covering my head,cuz that makes me feel itchy and uncomfortable ,so i can't focus properly.
We have our likes and dislikes.
Always focusing on physical rules takes away our focus from spiritual rules. And we become "Legalistic" Christians.

I'm not saying its unnecessary to cover your head while praying. I'm saying that "head covering" is not a hard and fast rule. If God leads you to wear a head covering,you should cover your head.
If God doesn't lead you,then you shouldn't. (Like me) i feel uncomfortable wearing wigs or head coverings and i can't properly focus. N if i lose focus while praying, i feel discontent and unsatisfied.

I also veil and embrace full modesty (covers arms and legs), I even sometimes cover my face. But it is kinda difficult as many women at my church do not wear veils and my family doesn’t support me in wearing it. But I still stay strong as YHWH convicted me to Veil when I first got back into Christianity. It truly keeps my focus on YHWH/Yeshua. I feel very protected when wearing it. I would love to see more fellow sisters veiling.

His teachings are, but the cultural differences matter. The New Testament was written a while ago. Thousands of years ago. The society was completely different.
It matters. I do not think God intended the world to be homogenous in appearance but faith. That's why what the Beat has explained on the principle of the matter is important. In Paul's culture, the hair and the covering were a symbol of submission, in other cultures, it is completely different (Maasai woman traditionally go bald while the men have long colourful braids).

But he is wrong on this one! Prayer is never and will never be a cultural practice. Culture or time does not change prayer. Prayer does not cease to be prayer simply because it is a different culture or at a different time. So God’s word says that women ought to cover their head WHEN THEY PRAY OR PROPHECY, and men ought to uncover their head WHEN THEY PRAY OR PROPHECY! Culture or time has nothing to do with it.

Wearing something on my head NEVER has stopped me from feeling Gods presence nor has he has ever convicted me for not wearing one like he has on other things ...I still pray in Holy spirit & etc...That has nothing to do with my Salvation & relationship with Christ ...You all need to pray to God for answers on this topic cause sometimes we interpret the bible based on feelings & not by Holy spirit....Tradition & Religion has been a mindset instead of just seeking & listening for God ....Thats you alls choice but its not a Sin to not wear a head coverings nor is it a bad thing it’s just a choice maybe it was something from Old Covenant we are not required to do that ...My church is a powerful Supernatural spirit filled place & we Don’t wear head coverings at all unless we just want to ...God bless 💕✝️

This just shows how far we have descended from the truth weather it be in principle or culture. These were put in place for a reason & as a believer we should uphold them. For the woman the head covering has a significance to do with the angels & we know what happen in genesis 6 & jude 6, also it helps to set us apart from the world.
A woman doesn't have to wear a covering because her hair is her covering. Paul was giving his advice on what they asked. If anyone continued reading those verses, at the end Paul said if anyone wants to argue about the subject, that they have no such tradition of head coverings.

i got that a woman doesnt have to wear it. To be honest believers as a whole dont "have" to do anything. its all about freedom of choice. the piece about the angels is still there & we know what happen in genesis 6 & jude 6

Jesus explained what he meant when he said it will be like Noah's time when he returns. If you read in Matthew 24, he says just like it was business as usual for the evil people and then the flood suddenly came when they weren't expecting it and took them away, it will be the same when he returns. One person will be taken away in destruction and the other left untouched. He tells us to be ready and waiting for Him and living righteously so we won't be caught in a "suddenly" when he returns and end up like the ones going to destruction.

Its not a culture thing.... In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. So the word is God. God is the same yesterday today and forever. So the word is the same yesterday today and forever. cultures may change over time but God remains the same and if something is put in the Bible as the word of God I am sure that whatever is in there was meant to stay in the practice of daily living. We don't change the word of God because times change. we don't change the word of God because it becomes inconvenient or doesn't match up with the latest women's lib belief system
The word does not change but the Bible is a book directed for all times. So the context of the head covering is relevant to that particular time. The message is still the same but the practices change. The message is still God as the head of the church and the man as the head of the woman. That reigns true but women at least where I am in Canada don't have the culture of middle eastern Jewish women of that day. So instead it is more relevant to follow the principle.

The New Testament brought us atonement through Jesus so that renders what was previously a command for us nullified. We are now living in the New Covenant under Christ’s grace. So practices do change in the context of scripture and though women are free to wear a covering if they choose to be faithful that way, it is not necessary under Christ’s grace if they are faithful in principle.
The pagan culture mentioned in this video is actually applicable to the time when the Jews were living in that region. So though the times changed, and with it the practice. The message remains, therefore the principle does.

I grew up Lutheran, and I can remember my mom wearing a hat to church. It was basically a smaller piece that was more decorative than functional. Hats are cool.
And, there is a gal at my church that likes to wear hats, I'm pretty sure it's a fashion statement with her and not anything religious.
She sure is cute in those hats, though! A different one every Sunday.

5. You said that a woman who does not cover her head dishonored her husband, but THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY THAT "HEAD" EXCLUSIVELY REFERS TO A "HUSBAND", BUT TO "MAN". JUST AS GOD IS THE HEAD OF CHRIST, BUT IS NOT CHRIST'S HUSBAND (BUT HIS FATHER), HEAD may refer to an authoritative man (possibly, whether living or dead) WHO IS NOT THE WOMAN'S HUSBAND.

You claim that in our culture women can shave their head and no stigma is attached, so it is O.K. for them to pray or prophecy uncovered, but, it only takes one generation to normalize a practice which is wicked (such as transgenderism in this generation) so normalization of a practice WHICH THE BIBLE SAYS IS SHAMEFUL (v. 5) is not a bar for holiness as gender lines started crossing a few decades ago [but even today, a woman can still see a natural shame in one's shaving her head bald]. Further, 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 state, several times, that the instructions are to be followed, for multiple reasons; but never said a woman does not have to follow the instructions if they do not find a shaven head to be shameful.

You said that many theologians believe that , in that culture, prostitutes had their heads shaved (though you stated that there is no solid proof for that) and said that the shaved head communicated immoral culture, rejecting femininity and that a woman praying with her head uncovered was demonstrating same level of rebellion as a prostitute HOWEVER, NOT ONLY DOES THE BIBLE NOT STATE ANY OF THAT, but, even IF temple prostitues shaved their heads, THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY THAT THE HEAD COVERING INSTRUCTIONS ARE BASED ON THE PRACTICE OF TEMPLE PROSTITUTES (or, as an example: construction workers do not wear hats because America likes fashionable hats / there is no direct connection between the two), AND THESE SCRIPTURES DO NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT SEXUAL IMMORALITY, BEING AVAILABLE TO OTHER MEN OR TAKING DOWN THE HAIR, SO you are IGNORING THE SCRIPTURAL REASONS for the practices (the nature and purpose of the creation of mankind and the existence of the angels) and NEGATING GOD'S SCRIPTURAL INSTRUCTIONS, based on REASONS THAT THE SCRIPTURE DOES NOT PROVIDE.
