I love how patient Maya is with Eli bc she understands how hard it is to relearn the language.
Well she has been putting a lot of effort into it herself.
I like that she's been making these shows to push herself.
Right I mean I do get it because she understands what it is like to not understand it at one point of her life, however it doesn’t seem like he even makes an effort to learn Spanish like she has
@@ShadowGirl26 I don't think he's taken the same steps with the same level of conviction, but I do think he tries in his own way and has come more into his identity overtime. One day, he might take the leap and take lessons and try to push himself further. But, I also think it's okay if he accepts himself where he is.
Those of us who speak Spanish fluently need to make sure that we don’t make fun of those who can’t speak Spanish well, have patience and help them out make them feel comfortable to fail like Maya said!
Yes because being constantly bullied for LEARNING Spanish made me stop and now as an adult it’s Spanglish but I’m working on it. It’s not right to bully, just help people learn.

valeyard it depends on the country you live in... in Mexico is a type of pastry but like in places like Argentina, Colombia it Chile it can be vulgar. (That’s from what I heard from friends) I’m Salvadorian and at first I didn’t understand why it could have that “dirty” sense until someone explained it to me 😅

It's a confidence thing. I'm probably a notch above Maya in speaking Spanish but it gets way better the more I drank. It's all about that liquid confidence.

@Eli I'm a Mexi-Rican from the Chi as well! I get it...I am 2nd generation. My Dad is PR and Mom's is Mexican, I didn't grow up speaking the language either. My Great Grandmother who was from the Island would always yell at my Dad because me and my sister couldn't speak spanish. I understood every word, but getting the words out was dam near impossible. Eventually I emersed myself in Spanish novelas and made it a point to speak more spanish..keep practicing tho. You are doing GREAT!!

From my experience, yes. Tequila DOES make your Spanish a LOT better. You’ll slur your English so much, it’ll sound Spanish.

I was thinking the same thing. She was rolling her Rs pretty good. It is true that you will speak with more confidence when you feel comfortable with those around you. The tequila doesn't hurt either.

I'm really proud of both Eli and Maya for reconnecting with their identities through Spanish. Spanish was my first language, but then I lost a lot of it moving from L.A. to the south as a kid. Now I'm relearning it and recognize how difficult and honestly brave it is to put yourself out there like this. Keep it up, ya'll! Si se puede!

I agree with Maya's statement about being around people who you feel comfortable making mistakes in front of when learning a language. I had people in school get upset if I made mistakes while speaking Spanish. I was glad to have friends who were willing to help me with my studies and encourage me to do my best during those times!

Quality. This was hilarious and there was so much happening i needed to watch it like 5 times.
I never really spoke Spanish growing up unless I HAD to speak to someone who didn't understand a word of English. Over the past 12 years of having to use my broken Spanish to communicate to customers at all my different jobs it has definitely gotten a lot better. Still not super great at it but at least I can now hold conversations with people.
Growing up I used to just tell people "Entiendo más que puedo hablar "

Very impressed with Maya’s improvement. A small suggestion Try getting the Spanish mags from the supermarket and reading aloud to help improve vocabulary and fluidity. I used to read even the church pamphlets on Sunday to my grandparents while they corrected my pronunciation. Great work, keep it going.

Oh my gosh im literally a Puerto Rican/ Mexican 3rd generation that wasn’t taught Spanish but has family members that only speak Spanish. so I only know a lot of words here and there but never could form a full sentence or comprehend a paragraph in Spanish.... but my amazing husband is 1st generation Salvi and I’m picking up a lot more so I’m the mix in between Eli and Maya and this is the most relatable video series for me!!
