I can still remember the first time I heard this track. I know exactly what I was doing. And I've listened to the song somewhere north of +10000 times now...
I remember this being the opening track at their gig in the Barrowlands in Glasgow just after the album was released. Was a good 10 minutes of that keyboard before the song kicked in. Such a good night.
Great memories. I remember this was a new entry in the chart at No.9 the same week that Jesus and Mary Chain charted at No.10 with 'Reverence'. (February 15th 1992) Happy days!!!! I was a big fan of Lush as well who were putting out some great stuff in the early 90's. :-)
This song never gets old! Ride have always been incredible musicians with so many solid, strong and layered songs. Sigh I wish it was the 90's again : ]]
Loved this song back in the day! Haven't heard it in years!!! Still sounds good! And bring back good memories of the early nineties!!! Great times even better music!!!!
Such a great band, almost getting misty eyed. Truly underated band that got fogotten and lost in the wealth of britpop that came after. Don't get me wrong, the Roses, Blur, Inspirals even Carter USM, PWEI and others made for such a vibrant scene circa 89-92, but Ride seem to been forgotten. Still have all the singles (12" extended versions natch.), nice that Andy Bell still has a working gig though....
This song is so strong right from the beginning, no warmup, just whap!!!! awesome song now... if you could mainline music I think this song is the expression of what that experience would be like. Call me crazy if you like.
@GrockJake I pretty much agree with you here. I can listen to Ride albums from start to finish. My favorite of this genre is actually Lush. I love the shit out of them. I guess they hold a special spot with me as I grew up hearing Lush all the time from my sister playing them.
I forgot that this video fades off just at the best bit. Typical of Ride, a great band, but they'd always go and do exactly what you DIDN'T want them to do.
From them, you should listen to: Polar bear - off Nowhere. Look for Pale saints - Sight of You, Lush - Unotgether and sweetness and the light, and UVS - Mercy seat
@gumpish Hmm, I guess for me the distortion and subdued vocals, plus the sense of escape in the chorus. Maybe it's just that I was an angsty teenager when this came out and it resonated with me. Maybe have a look at the lyrics to "Nowhere", "Time of Her Time", "Castle on the Hill" and particularly "Going Blank Again" and "Decay"
It's kinda funny to me how so many older shoegaze music videos are straight up montages. Lush's De-Luxe, MBV's Soon, Chapterhouse's Pearl, this video, etc.
Yeah, I love Ride from the first EPs thru Going Blank Again. MBV will always be number #1 for me, but Ride and Lush (my intro to shoegaze) will always be right behind.
'Ride the greatest band in the shoegazing scene'. probably true. only because mbv weren't really part of the shoegazing scene. they just started it by making an album everyone ripped off. then finished it by making another that was impossible to rip off.
Could it perhaps be because a member of Ride (Andy Bell) went on to play in Oasis? I mean, I don't like Oasis either, but it is hard to deny there is a connection there...
@Brascofarian uh... did you mean to leave this comment for some other video you were watching at the time? What the hell is angsty about this - or any - RIDE song?
Not really, no, but I guess I can see where you are coming from. Grunge was more influenced by punk and metal, whereas Shoegaze came from bands like Spacemen 3, MBV, Cocteau Twins and Jesus and Mary Chain. Shoegaze was more psychedelic than punk, if that makes sense? US bands like Sonic Youth def had an influence though. Check out band like Pale Saints, Slowdive, Chapterhouse, and others if you like the sound. The era threw out some great tunes :)
+Faisal Hammad Shoegaze was was huge reading Thames Valley and Oxford and all and was about to break throigh mianstream and then Nirvana happened..... RIDE are considered one of the best groups in the UK not to make to make it big at the time... they were the next big thing and then they just went out of fashion or rather did not go mainstream and became super cult.... with more rock... and hence they became cult adored legends.... I totally adore these dudes they blew me away first album ! It was very cool to be walling baout with their album and the Stone Roses one with anyone knowing Ride in my world .........
Prof. Harvey Crichton Hrm, I am not sure we can blame Nirvana for their falling out of grace... They were still charting well with "Leave Them All Behind" in '92, and their second album did really well. I think it's fairer to say that internal problems are what killed them. Their later lyrics tell a stark story... And then a misjudged pandering to Britpop when they returned was the nail in the coffin (though, I still really like How Does It Feel to Feel and the like). If anything, I would say that their audience was stolen by Suede, who hit hard in '92, and then, ofc, Definitely Maybe dropped in '93. Poor Ride never had a chance. As good as it was in the moment, their sound was played out by '92. Who knows? Maybe if they had chosen to experiment more with electronica like Gardener apparently wanted then they would have gone on.
Do you like ethereal sound ? I hope this three titles can make you travel : Would I were-Niko Laetailleurs ; Stedfast as thou art-Niko Laetailleurs ; Bright Star-Niko Laetailleurs; . Enjoy !
MBV and Slowdive made beautiful dreamy, ethereal sounds that we listened to at home but Ride made this wall of sound pop we could actually dance to, in a clumsy, gothic, air guitar kinda way, that is.
MADFERIT MAN You've got guts man! I grew up listening to both - and I'd say that if one had to choose a Shoegaze anthem, then Ride would have my vote -- Taste or Chelsea Girl.
John Doe I like them both. Different tonalities and approaches but could be played back to back and feel right. They put so many thoughts into your head and hit on touch on deep feelings. How's that?
So shoes gaze music is basically get some big amps turn the guitars up to fucking eleven, turn the vocals down, and pretend that you don't really know what you are doing, when really you do?......so then basically any wanker can make music like this then..........so when you shoes gaze should you be wearing Nike, Adidas or Clarks or it don't really fucking matter right...........
I can still remember the first time I heard this track. I know exactly what I was doing. And I've listened to the song somewhere north of +10000 times now...
same

RIDE were my favourite band in 1991-1993, pretty much documenting my school years. BIG RESPECT
This song never gets old! Ride have always been incredible musicians with so many solid, strong and layered songs. Sigh I wish it was the 90's again : ]]
I've been a Ride fan since 89 and this is one of their best songs
Loved this song back in the day! Haven't heard it in years!!! Still sounds good! And bring back good memories of the early nineties!!! Great times even better music!!!!
It is a socking pleasure to have these dudes back.
Captured a moment in time that remains timeless to this day.... so powerful !!!!!!
Wowwwwwww .....
Exaclty...
Such a great band, almost getting misty eyed. Truly underated band that got fogotten and lost in the wealth of britpop that came after. remember buying this single in the pissin rain....monumental tune from a fantastic album
Ride is for listening to in the rain.
Brings back memories. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shoegaze changed my life!
Bloody fantastic song. Gotta love a bit of Ride
Welcome back Ride
Another great Shoe gaze classic. Love Catherine's Wheel too.
Honestly i have never known this genre of rock. And i love it.
I grew up listening to punk rock and this is moving me.
+Alberto Castilla Where is it moving you, you mean moving your bowels right? lol........ha ha ha ha ha
+Kal-El Kent
No need for hostility, superman.
Alberto Costilla Hey correct there buddy.....just asking a real genuine question lol
+Kal-El Kent aw come on bro. I can like things.
Alberto Costilla True yeah man I like this too lol........Its good the way it make's one want to let a huge fart just rip right!....
I first heard this song on the Cass Pennant Film and thought what an awesome song, superb, thank's for posting
the way it breaks down and picks up again just bliss:)
First Ride song for me (still have it on an obscure VCR tape somewhere), and everlasting feeling.
The drums kill it in this song... Brilliant tune!
I am so glad Ride is comming back. Great sound!
4 1/2 minutes of dope... and I just discovered them!!!
Great song!!!
Frigging loved this song and album. Bliss!
the movie CASS brought me here, bad-ass song!
This song is so strong right from the beginning, no warmup, just whap!!!! awesome song now... if you could mainline music I think this song is the expression of what that experience would be like. Call me crazy if you like.
on the album cut of this song there is a bass riff that leads into the song, this is quite shortened
great post thanks
Stunning!!!!
yes. lush, curve, my bloody valentine... such a memory trip.
What about Ride... here ?
@GrockJake I pretty much agree with you here. I can listen to Ride albums from start to finish. My favorite of this genre is actually Lush. I love the shit out of them. I guess they hold a special spot with me as I grew up hearing Lush all the time from my sister playing them.
Ride and Swervedriver are my favourites from the shoegaze scene
unforgettable hit with groove for all times!
Nice album and memories
This is probably one of my favourite shoegaze songs
they are back!!!!!!
as they mentioned recently shoegaze has aged much better than Britpop, or even grunge...
grunge is very similar , but theyre both good
+ultrasmelly Quality never ages...Timeless...Look at poor Oasis nowadays...
+ultrasmelly Compared to some earlier stuff like Post-Punk, Shoegaze fades imho....
awwwww....great memories :-)
A great song.
it's so strong and soulful
Bluuuuurrrrr yeahhh
I'm a big fan of Cinsera/Vanish as well... I'm speachless...
The riff at 0:52 always makes me smile
Top choon!
Just let it flow..❤
nice vid. colours remind me of 'throwing back the apple' by Pale Saints. well worth a look . . .
every time i hear this song i'm completely fucking astounded. a pure masterpiece.
Ride - really did leave them all behind......they were well ahead.
I forgot that this video fades off just at the best bit. Typical of Ride, a great band, but they'd always go and do exactly what you DIDN'T want them to do.
awesome
Mítico¡Amazing!
From them, you should listen to: Polar bear - off Nowhere. Look for Pale saints - Sight of You, Lush - Unotgether and sweetness and the light, and UVS - Mercy seat
love to play this bass easy and enjoyable!
Ride is bad ass best shooesissei
ROCKIN; wheels turning round.....,
@crazylullaby MBV may have invented shoegaze, but Ride made it just so darn listenable...
DIS SONG DOEEE
Just one and a half thousand views for this amazing song ?
@gumpish Hmm, I guess for me the distortion and subdued vocals, plus the sense of escape in the chorus. Maybe it's just that I was an angsty teenager when this came out and it resonated with me. Maybe have a look at the lyrics to "Nowhere", "Time of Her Time", "Castle on the Hill" and particularly "Going Blank Again" and "Decay"
High school stoner flashback 1993!!!!
Go the Ride fans! First CD I ever bought. What ever happened to these guys anyway?
The only problem with this video is that it cuts off the freakishly awesome instrumental intro. Otherwise... *love*
It's kinda funny to me how so many older shoegaze music videos are straight up montages. Lush's De-Luxe, MBV's Soon, Chapterhouse's Pearl, this video, etc.
if you don't like these guys, you have no sense of pure emotion.
the best part of the song (when it first kicks in) was edited.. love ride.
Yeah, I love Ride from the first EPs thru Going Blank Again.
MBV will always be number #1 for me, but Ride and Lush (my intro to shoegaze) will always be right behind.
Shoegaze ftw!
muita foda.. muito bom
hehehhe
Great song, buy Going Blank Again and hear the unedited version. ♡♡♡
This is my first time hearing this, I think I've fallen in love with another band
My band do a cracking cover of this song!
'Ride the greatest band in the shoegazing scene'. probably true. only because mbv weren't really part of the shoegazing scene. they just started it by making an album everyone ripped off. then finished it by making another that was impossible to rip off.
un-fucking-belivable song this,even now
The intro is very reminiscent of I want you by savage garden
soundtrack for 90's teenage angst
Great but i miss the 12" 's 2 mn intro and the hypnotic grand finale !
Space Rock :)
Damn, I'm crying right now.
Nothing I can do about it...This is fantastic!
I was only 16 when this was released, I liked it but I weren't a bloody shoegazer.
fade out...? damn.....
@kanhende the goatse one was pretty hilarious.
"bring them all with us" would've worked too
Could it perhaps be because a member of Ride (Andy Bell) went on to play in Oasis? I mean, I don't like Oasis either, but it is hard to deny there is a connection there...
@Brascofarian uh... did you mean to leave this comment for some other video you were watching at the time? What the hell is angsty about this - or any - RIDE song?
Was shoegaze like the grunge of UK ?? They sound similar
Not really, no, but I guess I can see where you are coming from. No.
Faisal Hammad There were some US shoegazer bands too. Check out The Belltower.

TV edit - not full version.

Thumbs up if Cass brought you here.
Mon aspirine pour échapper aux groupes migraineux.
Reckon they were real guitars being swung around in the solo?
great song, but MBV were the greatest shoegazing band.
MADFERIT MAN without a doubt
MADFERIT MAN - Agreed, but wow, Ride still holds their place - they captured something amazing.. that same thing that MBV made perfect...
MBV and Slowdive made beautiful dreamy, ethereal sounds that we listened to at home but Ride made this wall of sound pop we could actually dance to, in a clumsy, gothic, air guitar kinda way, that is.
MADFERIT MAN You've got guts man! I grew up listening to both - and I'd say that if one had to choose a Shoegaze anthem, then Ride would have my vote -- Taste or Chelsea Girl.
skweekah MBV invented and set the standard for shoegaze...
I have an internet connection and i have opinions diddly dum diddle dee
Ha! MBV are god, RIDE have written some great songs though and plenty of boring ones when you go through their albums.
MBV, the greatest shoegazing band? The most overrated shoegazing band! Ride, The Boo Radleys, or Pale Saints were really more interesting.
Régis Bourgoin yeah gimme one release better than loveless or you made me realise
John Doe I like them both. Different tonalities and approaches but could be played back to back and feel right. They put so many thoughts into your head and hit on touch on deep feelings. How's that?
As much as I love Ride...MBV are at the top.
?
Fucc A Poss Blok ??
Always pisses me off when lazy journo's describe Andy Bell as a bassist turned guitarist...
everything sucks
Most boring concert I've ever been to; Mercury Rev were supposed to be opening, but Verve did instead. Yawn!
Wat.
