Both your circle and his are technically the same, but as you increase elevation your turn radius becomes shorter than his since all of his travel distance is on the x-plane and you are splitting your travel distance on the y-plane and x plane.
You guys enjoy the LONGEST Dogfight EVER!? sheesh - surely you guys haven't endured something like that before, have you? Respect to my opponent - FacelessMan
10:58 It is called a "High Yo-Yo" and a "Low Yo-Yo". Being an actual tactic used in air-air combat, that works by cutting the horizontal turn sharper by moving it into the vertical. Thus creating a situation where with the same turn rate (when looked at from above) your turn is sharper. It is a mostly offensive maneuver that has fallen out of favor with the advent of missiles. Because you do not need to pull lead for an IR-guided missile to see a heat source (jet engine). Also pulling lead or direct pursuit causes you to close in on your opponent making it harder for the IR-guided missile to turn and pull lead fast enough for a hit. So in modern BFM situations when you are behind an enemy you pull lag pursuit until in a position where you can pull direct or lead pursuit to fire your missiles or gun. But with off-bore sight heat-seekers you don't even need to pull lead, so in the case that you are flying a lets say Su-27 (or newer) you would have no reason to pull lead or direct pursuit. Your R-73 would lock and fire off bore sight, getting aimed by your HMS. Or vertical-scan radar mode.
This was incredible to watch! Personally when I'm playing with an attack plane, I never engage bombers. It's an unspoken truce I created, even though they don't know it. It helps me because if I let them live, they won't be able to kill me and there's less of a chance that an enemy fighter/attack plane will spawn and engage me! Again, great video dude
In a real life dogfight, either A: the wings of both planes would've been ripped off because of the extreme G or B: the Fokker triplane, which were given to the best of the best in Germany's air forces, would've gotten on your tail due to its superior lift and turning radius. Still some expert flying on your part.
Most infuriating thing about the trench fighter; you see a shit load of enemies and your prepped to drop your flechets and as soon as you go to drop them you find out your just about finished reloading.
But I don't love your content. I haven't seen any of your videos before. No I will not bro fist you. You can't tell me what to do. Yes I did watch and enjoyed the entire video.
I Kind of had an in game truce, it was whilst we were waiting for a game to load but we could still spawn in, I came face to face with an enemy and did what everyone doesn't do: teabag. I made friends with him and we both pulled out our melee weapons as a sign of no shooting and my teammate tried to kill him so I killed my teammate (hardcore game mode) and me and the enemy stayed together for the rest of the match.
One time I had a truce with a guy we were both about to melee each other and I just started jumping up and down and so did he, we just were hiding in a trench for about 10 minutes probably until one of his teammates killed me from behind. It was honestly my most memorable moment of playing battlefield. This was also done on console so we couldn't type to each other like in this video
Donny Boy he only hates them because he remembers going for phantom bow and then jet fighter ribbons in bf4. I still only have 1/3 ribbons. come to think of it, I hate people who camp the planes too...
+Guy Stokes And then there is me who didnt give a crap about that entire assignment because it was bullshit, then with the free map DLC, you can just pick up the phantom bow on the ground and unlock it. So much trouble saved.
That was really fun to watch! I subscribed after watching this one. I don’t normally subscribe to channels on youtube even if i do I don’t usually hit like on a video unless I really enjoyed it! Great work niccaman! Thanks for the video it made me smile the whole time.
10:30 During a turning fight, diving into the turn reshapes your orbit, like cutting a corner, or flattening a section of your orbit. A disadvantage that comes to mind is the amount of speed you'll lose when you return to tailing/leading the enemy again, as you should be moving faster.
The physics behind the maneuver is that when you go up high, you have a greater amount of potential energy. That is energy that isn't used yet but can/will be used later. When you start going down, the potential energy turns into kinetic energy (it is important to note that no energy is created or lost during this time). The kinetic energy is movement, the more potential energy there is the more kinetic (speed) energy. The potential energy doesn't only go into just speed it also goes into things like light and sound.
It's true, by letting off the throttle you can turn tighter, but not faster. Lowering the throttle cost you air speed/momentum/action potential. If he were to "break" while doing a yo-yo, he would end up stalling. Do that breaking maneuver in a dogfight against a top pilot, and they will eat your lunch. Just saying.
This reminds me of when the British and Germans had a day long truce on Christmas Day in WW1 in the Western Front and they played football and exchanged food
Adolf Hitler you spelt loser wrong, I don't think your very bright, no wonder we beat you nazis always looking for a fight but like what those people did in that video lets truce
So Nick, basically what you're describing at 10:50 is taking more of an elliptical pattern by alternating how quickly you ascend and descend. I notice that you usually ascend very slowly and descend more quickly. Your altitude change affects how quickly you can move in a "forward" direction. As your rate-of-change to altitude increases, your ability to move "forward" on the horizontal axis diminishes. If you couple this effect with a turn, you get a much sharper turn than you would if you were to just adjust the roll of your plane.
I believe the oscillating turn works because you are climbing. As you climb your airspeed decreases, and with decreased airspeed you get a tighter turn radius. That would explain why he would only be temporarily in your field of view. Slow down, turn inside him, gain speed in the dive, he out turns you, rinse and repeat.
it's an old combat maneuver, can't think of the name. Basically you're lengthening your turn, while it gets slightly sharper on the up, then you get a nice burst of speed along with a tighter turn. The result is an offset turn radius that puts you closer to where you want to be.
staying on topic of WWI and dogfighting, Manfred Von Richtofen (the Red Baron) tells of a story in his autobiography of a time he engaged an enemy pilot while on a flight at around 15,000ft. They flew in circles 30 rotations in one direction and 30 in the other dropping all the way down to about 50ft. The enemy pilot decided it was pointless to continue flying in circles so he pulled away and headed towards Ally trench lines. Richthofen wasn't one to let an enemy get away so he followed him and shot him through the head. If you like WWI history I recommend buying the book, it's a great read and not too lengthy either.
Also try combining "corkscrew" maneuver(A and D keys also control your rudder) with "speed dump" if an enemy is behind you. Once they are about to overshoot you, start bringing speed back to maximum. Works very well for me.
when you turn on the off angle you make your flight path longer essentially making you have to travel more distance if you lay the lines out straight you will be behind the opponent
at first when i watched your videos about altitude and all i thought it was all rubbish but now as a level 103 player with level 50 pilot rank using the trench fighter, i understand what you were talking about looking back lol
Airplane gameply in bf1 is my personal favorite. It's a lot more personal. I remember one time I was getting annoyed as every time I'd see an enemy fighter they immediately crash into the ground or just bail out when they saw me, it was frustrating. Then along came a fighter who didn't crash or just bail out and we ended up having a 5 minute dog fight, after I had killed him he invited me to a chat party and we hung out and squaded up for several matches. You just don't get that kind of chivalry on the ground.
its not exactly physics, but geometry. by not doing a perfect circle you are effectively increasing the distance you have to travel to complete the circle "slowing you down" without actually slowing down for him to catch you.
the plane tatic works because when you pull up you lose speed and when you turn down you gain speed to then get the angle on him. slower the slotted the tighter the circle or angle

That was disappointing, I thought it was the whole server having a truce.
yeah same here was thinking well that be hard for severs to understand nobody in a full lobby dying lol
Clickbait

Last time I was this early the Christmas truce of ww1 happened

Niccaman you caught me
bruh can you accept my origin friend request (chrp90) ? I'd like to cover you're ass as a back gunner when your bombing the shit out of the enemies :D
i love this channel
The up and down circle is called the yo-yo maneuver. Described here under the out of plane maneuvers: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_fighter_maneuvers
Like if you choose choice 3 and saw niccaman do maneuvers for 7 minutes
gave me a headache but worth it :D
me lol

On the other hand, a skilled bomber can be a really dangerous beast for your teams infantry and tanks...
Pedro Gomes that is the most cowardly shit I've ever read. 100% pussy.

Yes I did watch and enjoyed the entire video.
I feel like we needed an option 4 for you buddy
Niccaman lol true
same for me. :P
Agent Spartan Same as him but I subbed and will watch all his vids now
this reminds me so much of the dogfights in bf4... Just circling around each other for the entire game.
As always top content
thanks bro!
shutupand squat I appreciate skill. This video isn't whoring kills. Good day.
pct
PS Harvey boi I can write a double spaced essay on your forehead

Learn to respect friendly pilots,
spot a fighter today.
Honestly came to watch some long gameplay but fell in love subbing for sure
So this is what y'all be doing up there? Flying in circles?
Pablo Barragan yes
As always amazing flying and amazing video, gg nicca, i legit learned how to fly mostly because of your videos
wanna see Nicca vs Matiace. thats going to he something special.
connor evans Matti would destroy hah
LMAO are u kidding me? matti is 10 times better
Ya i agree, Matti would take that win easy.
wow that was intense! i've chased a pilot for a couple mins in operations but another plane always adds to the fight swinging the momentum. great vid!
I hate people who just wait in the respawn screen for a plane or tank like help out your team
They are helping out their team by playing with a vehicle they can use well.
Donny Boy he only hates them because he remembers going for phantom bow and then jet fighter ribbons in bf4. I still only have 1/3 ribbons. come to think of it, I hate people who camp the planes too...
Guy Stokes im pretty good bf4 pilot
+Guy Stokes
And then there is me who didnt give a crap about that entire assignment because it was bullshit, then with the free map DLC, you can just pick up the phantom bow on the ground and unlock it. So much trouble saved.
Yeah but help out your team while your waiting for the respawn
Hilarious final dogfight, stomach jerked every time you came inches from the tree stumps!!! Great vid.
i stayed
Epic man first video I've watched on your channel and loved it, keep it up
misleading. thought it meant two entire teams had a cease fire for an entire game.
that last dog fight is what those carnival rides with the planes that raise up and spin in a circle are simulating
clickbait, you said it was a truce not you flying in circles for 20min
Yes, which resulted in a truce.
TheNekOz yea but he probably thought in this vid they would team up together both in bombers or some shit
The video wasnt even 20 minutes
Slade
That's not how truces work
I will admit, you tested my resolve to make it through the entire dogfight at around 5 minutes in...
War thunder + World of tanks + Verdun = Battlefield 1
GAWATT war thunders plane controls on console are WAAAYYYY better, wish they would add a button setup like WT
Verdun is the better fps game ever
“Dog fight” more like flying around in a circle for ten minutes
great video
That was really fun to watch! I subscribed after watching this one. I don’t normally subscribe to channels on youtube even if i do I don’t usually hit like on a video unless I really enjoyed it! Great work niccaman! Thanks for the video it made me smile the whole time.
thanks bro, glad you're gonna stick around :)
hey, you should try war thunder planes
Green Keeg hell ya

Just watched the whole fucking video
Damn i feel good for that fucking like
When I watch a video I stay for all of it, no matter how long
i chose 3 and i was the 24 view

How does he have only 26K subs?
Joe Scheibner don't know
love you guys !
Was expecting the video to be all about an actual truce not gameplay of a long dogfight? I feel like that should have been your title
you know if you slow down you can turn better
It's true, by letting off the throttle you can turn tighter, but not faster. Lowering the throttle cost you air speed/momentum/action potential. +EVILSITHLORD84 Hmm
EVILSITHLORD84 *+1*
never let a bully eat ur lunch
EVILSITHLORD84 be the better pilot, & they won't.
Niccaman that was awesome. Love you content, just wish I didnt't have to wait so long between videos. Keep up the great work.
hehehe love this !
This reminds me of when the British and Germans had a day long truce on Christmas Day in WW1 in the Western Front and they played football and exchanged food
Adolf Hitler well it did, I don't think your a historian.
Adolf Hitler you spelt loser wrong, I don't think your very bright, no wonder we beat you nazis always looking for a fight but like what those people did in that video lets truce
Sorry m8 have a nice day
Adolf Hitler Dude it was the british commanders who wanted the fighting to resume

Niccaman yo can I plz gate the outro music name?
still waiting after 2 years
The amount of times I flinched throughout this video every time you got close to the ground

this one battlefield moment i can never forget that i used the sun as my cover when im dogfighting and it actually worked (thank you red baron)
My favorite bf1 video to date. Thanks. Amazing.
The dude who said,”Hotel trivago.”
Is the real legend.

seeing you fly in this game is like watching art! so masterful!!!
That was cool haha, impressed by your piloting. Subscribed
niccaman once again showing people how a real pilot is supposed to play by absolutely demolishing the other team
Also try combining "corkscrew" maneuver(A and D keys also control your rudder) with "speed dump" if an enemy is behind you. Once they are about to overshoot you, start bringing speed back to maximum. Works very well for me.
In real life, it would be absolutely cool to imagine the g-force both pilots experiencing as they circle around
Having an ace pilot on a team, and the other team doesn't know how to deal with it, is basically a death sentence
well now that was an entertaining dogfight right there. nice flying dude. I'd love to challenge you once I get my new computer xD
subbed ^^
by ar most intense bf video i've found (imo) gotta new sub man
Quality Content deserve more subs
I love the sound of the planes when they drive by
"Vmmmmmmmmm"
My internets so bad I don't even try flying planes.
For some reason I enjoy watching you do loops for 7 minutes, but hate doing loops for 1 minute myself XD
Amazing video don't stop uploading these
Does anyone know the song @ 2:16? He uses it in all of his videos
Ladarian let me know if you know by now lol
General Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett, Drive by Valence
Lol thanks mate
when you turn on the off angle you make your flight path longer essentially making you have to travel more distance if you
lay the lines out straight you will be behind the opponent

"We will go for the Trenchfighter" - flies plane all game
Great videos!.....can you do an update video for all the loadouts. Did they change anything with the update/dlcs
"I'm going to stay in a straight line so it's harder to se... oh, ok" 😂
2:34 the Red Baron did that in the Great War but unfortunately/fortunately he was shot down by a British plane in April 1918
I don’t know if it’s just me watching this but I got dizzy I watched the whole thing and didn’t skip love ur vids nic and keep up the good work
You are a great pilot niccaman, keep up
2:00 All I could do was watch in horror as he unknowingly approached his own demise...
I endured the whole dogfight and learned some good info so yeah thanks for that.
Your maneuver works because you slow down while going up, so you can make a tighter turn, then you speed up while going down to catch up the distance.
The physics behind the first tip is because when you are flying towards the ground gravity helps speed you up and gives you extra speed
That Facelessman was a true Red Baron if I've ever seen one. He truly deserves that skin.
This man flies uncomfortably close to the ground.
that was the longest dog fight video ive ever seen
Love ur content bro keep up the good work!👍
Means a lot to me thanks bro!
mike henstock yout
mike henstock sorry i meant your the last comment have a nice day bro I'll sub to u man
I wonder what people on the ground thought ...
*looks up*
"Yup still going"
its not exactly physics, but geometry. by not doing a perfect circle you are effectively increasing the distance you have to travel to complete the circle "slowing you down" without actually slowing down for him to catch you.
Subbed. This indeed is quality content.
the plane tatic works because when you pull up you lose speed and when you turn down you gain speed to then get the angle on him. slower the slotted the tighter the circle or angle
When you were talking about how when you go in circles and don't go straight you gained on him because you went up and then down so when you went back down you gained more speed
I’m here to watch all your content for the rest of my life. 😎😎😎🕹
(Final Round) Look At Those Airplanes Dancing!
I think what you're doing is a kind of high yo yo maneuver. You point your nose up losing speed but gaining altitude, then you nose down with the higher altitude and energy to turn in faster than him to get a few shots off.
