Very much enjoy these films. Johnny describes the feel of the guns brilliantly. I would of loved to see an “eye view” with the camera down the barrels just to understand the difference of no rib. Keep these videos coming!
You guys do get some serious works of art over there. One of these days I'm going to add one to my collection, there's a place for art even if here shotguns tend to be more proletarian (or sometimes Tactical Timmy).
That is a lovely gun. It is funny, though, that the 1960s-vintage Beretta BL-2 I bought for US $500 3 years ago is configured almost exactly as the Perazzi Ribless, with the stub rib at the breech end and a little ramp up front, but with a little ring sight in place of the bead. It is also choked super tight; I used it for trap till I bought a proper trap gun.
I own a Perazzi MX 8 competition gun. The one of the main reasons for the rib is the conduction of heat away from the barrel. Shooting a ribless gun in rapid fire will result in lots of mirage and possible damage to the barrels in my opinion.
We saw them at the Game Fair and in the Sportarm Dorchester shop; really nice. The examples we had a look at were as you described, a mid ground between O/U and SxS? I think that they had a Rizzini as well. Perhaps with the limited loads in steel they will be attractive to fans of smaller gauges for the whippyness, but in 12 bore.
Whatever gun you own, no matter how dear it is to you, there is always of flutter of envy when you see a fresh fashion broadly smiling. Ribs were very nice until ribless walked her décolleté into the room. Cheers!
I did all of my early shooting with a ribless gun. Even managed to win a couple of trap skeet and sporting comps with it. Heck and it was a 6lb Franchi 48AL no less. Fantastic game gun! A hundred rounds was a beating however!!! lol It was even Italian! But I’ll admit, it doesn’t look like that beauty! 👍🏼👍🏼
Beautiful gun. It’s a Perazzi. Now on to the ribless feature… every super cheap pump or single shot shotgun is ribless, so do they shoot or handle better than a ribbed gun? I think you are blinded by the fact it is a Perazzi or a Boss or whatever. The “deliciousness” of these guns comes from their no expense spared quality builds. Rib/no rib, it’s all personal preference. I love your channel, keep bringing us cool content, thanks!
Interesting proposal. As we said in the film, it isn’t merely the lack of rib, but the gun built around that concept that makes it a great package. Would a Ribless kofs be nice - unlikely. It would Probably still be a kofs! So yes, the quality of this gun does help but having shot the rubber version, I wouldn’t praise it as being half as exciting of delicious. A further note, that I have shot a fair few Ribless cheapies, and the lack of rib can lend you the same advantages and disadvantages as this. It’s just nice that someone is brave enough to build a ribless gun of top quality rather than doing it to save money during manufacture.
Well done Jonny/Sportarm/Perazzi. I unreservedly love the looks of this and would happily spend some time learning to shoot with it on that account. Regrettably, it's beyond my budget, but if Rizzini (or even Yildiz) were to make their own version, I think any loss of aesthetic appeal (which would probably be minimal) would be more than compensated for by affordability, and I'd be after one.
Love a rib so sight options are greater. I use a 12 gauge for hunting small game to big game. Will say the old shotguns with fixed choke barrels do pattern more even than the screw in choke barrels. My grandfather’s Remington 1100 was a serious squirrel killer using Federal Prairie Storm shells. Easy to kill squirrels at 60 yards with no.4 or no.5 shot.
Really a gorgeous gun, I’m a USA based shooting enthusiast, would love to see a video on US vs UK shooting and hunting cultures, are these high end guns quite rare in the wild and generally only seen at very high end private clubs and hunts, and most people have much cheaper guns (like in the US) or is it something else?
To add to William Tell, only two types of guns are considered "civilized" in the UK, over/under shotguns like this (formerly side by sides,) or bolt action rifles. You rarely see anything else in private ownership.
The guns are beautiful. The craftsmanship does put me in awe on any magnificently crafted piece. I think the ribs take away from the beauty even though I do understand they actually have a function. I’m just not sure the function of the rib is needed unless you are competing and plan to heat the barrel up. Of course, I’ll never personally own one because I’m a function over form person and I have no use for one. But great video and beautiful shotgun.
Beautifully filmed video and a great looking gun. Ribless guns work well imho: my most accurate clay gun is a long barreled ribless Browning Auto 5 from the late 1950s.
Beretta had a rib-less S56 in the 70's I just removed the auto safety and serviced one a few weeks ago. Not in the same league as this bad boy, but a nice enough shotgun.
Beautiful gun, although I personally never cared for rib less barrels. I would ask is there a finish flaw on the forearm and 4:18? Shame for 13K if there is!

@@finallyfriday. Very true. I have some fairly nice guns but my home defense gun is a Ruger. It's reliable, works and I absolutely do not care about it cause it's dirt cheap. Can't say I have anything in the video's price range though. I do wonder what the difference in quality is between one of those and say a $3k gun here in the USA. Is it all just custom engraving or is there more to it than that? Also worth mentioning that there are some companies in the USA making shotguns in that price range too. See Connecticut Shotguns for an example. You can easily spend more on an archaic double barrel than your car costs.
Those look lovely. But I have a proper Alex Martin Sidelock with Ribless Barrels and is an absolute joy to shoot. Those Perrazis should remove the side ribs so it is totally ribless.
