How lucky were we to see David Ortiz play here in Boston..so many memories..I happened to meet/see him around Boston..He had an aura about him..when he walked in its like MJ walking in except DO would many times take time and be with people.

Such hypocrisy having him being elected into Hall of Fame. He tested positive for steroids in 2003. Even though that was supposed to be confidential, it got out and he along with the likes of ARod, Manny Rameriz and about 100 players tested positive. Why is he in Hall? Because of personality? The Boston Strong speech? His very unfortunate and tragically being shot?
Have no problem with him getting in. But if so then the previous mentioned players along with Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGuire, Palmeiro etc should be in. Many of their stats are not only better but they were more multidimensional and not just a DH.
Big Pappi was a great hitter and among the most clutch hitters of all time so good for him and congrats for getting in. But get off your high horse writers and be consistent. I don’t condone any of those guys taking PED’S, and I am glad more strict guidelines are in place. But at that time baseball turned a blind eye to it. For crying out loud McGwire had them out in the open in his locker during home run chase vs Sosa. Plus remember MLB’s promotion “Chicks dig the longball”?
Ok, you have opened up the door. The floodgates should allow the rest in. Because, be honest hundreds of players took PED’S at that time. While some stats may be a little inflated, these guys probably would have been HOF players without them. Baseball just needs to chalk up this as a time of ignorance and even if Hall wants to put on players plaque that he was suspected or caught in an era when baseball had a blind eye to players using PED’S so be it.

Based on that logic, no pitcher outside of kershaw and verlander will get the the hall of fame from this generation. (Because they dont get the wins, the dont pitch more than 6 innings and they dont get the Ks)
