I definitely like the Genos2. I have a Genos1 and I'm quite happy with it but I've thought about upgrading to the Genos2 although I decided against it for a few reasons. Firstly, it would be another $6,000 or thereabouts. Since I already have a Genos1 which also costs a pretty penny brand new it's hard to justify upgrading to the Genos2 when Yamaha reduced the User storage from 58GB on the Genos1 to just 15GB on the Genos2. If you have an inside scoop on why Yamaha chose to do that Leigh I'm all ears. Secondly, Yamaha removed the Digital Output on the Genos2 which of course is present on the Genos1. I know Yamaha put an audio interface on the Genos2 but it's one Stereo channel only. For instance, the Yamaha Montage M USB audio interface has Input: 6 channels (3 stereo channels), Output: 32 channels (16 stereo channels) [Sampling Frequency = 44.1 kHz. You would think Yamaha would have upped its game with the Genos2 with more channel Inputs/Outputs for its audio interface. If Yamaha had done so it would have been more of an incentive for me to upgrade my Genos1. As it stands now the Genos1 Digital Output is sufficient for now. Thirdly, the Genos1 has a superior OLED sub-display and it's quite legible. The Genos2 has an LCD sub-display (some people say it's too bright even at the lowest setting) and it's an inferior technology compared to OLED. I like the fact that Yamaha gave the Genos2 lighted LEDs for the drawbar sliders and the knobs of course although the Genos2 still doesn't have a dedicated Rotary engine simulation for the Organs as is found on the YC-series and the new Montage M. And I don't particularly care for the raised part at the back on the top panel on the Genos2 either. I did notice though if you use the Music Rest it sort of makes it look more symmetrical. Without the Music Rest, it looks unsymmetrical if you know what I mean. The Genos2 is also about 2 lbs. heavier than the Genos1 but that's no biggy in my opinion. Love the new Brass sounds and the new FM/DX7 voices. I think you've noticed the Genos2 has the same exact number of electric guitars as the Genos1 i.e. there are no new electric guitars on the Genos2. Yamaha did change the names of two of them (from Rhythm King & Solo King) to Solo Ace & Rhythm Ace on the Genos2 for whatever reason. But I think the new REVelation Reverb on the Genos2 gives the electric guitars a bit more presence and oomph. I do like the new Ambient Drums on the Genos2 as well but I also think the Genos1 Revo Drum kits are excellent too in my opinion. Thanks for the wonderful demonstration, Leigh. Your chops are excellent by the way. I'm waiting for the Genos3 to arrive on the scene in a few years. Yamaha will hopefully release the Genos3 by October/November 2026 but that's probably asking too much. I previously owned a brand new Tyros1 but decided against getting the Tyros2 for basically similar reasons i.e. it wasn't much of an overfall improvement compared to the Tyros1. Cheers.
I agree with you, I think that the important changes in Genos 2 are in software and could be loaded in Genos 1. The physical changes are insignificant, some lights and a tilted screen. I also decided to keep the Genos 1 and use the money on a Montage M as a complement while waiting for a future Genos 3 that merits the expense.
I own both a Tyros5 and a Genos1 and I already found that the difference between the two was pretty minimalistic. A 3rd articulation button, a touch screen, a better DAC but with the same samples. Ah they replaced the audio drums with better quality samples that allow you to change the tempo. That said the default "Cool Beat" style on the Tyros isn't matched by its replacement on the Genos. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the Genos but the price difference between a previous and the next keyboard is huge for just a very few new goodies. I'll also skip the G2, and would prefer to buy another brand which will bring a ton of stuff I don't already have compared to just an upgrade on a few points. I too would have preferred to pay for a software upgrade on my G1 to be almost on par with G2 (i.e. everything that's technically possible) instead of buying again the hardware I already have.

For those who are considering a move up or over to a Genos2, Leigh speaks volumes about the benefits. My personal testimony coincides with his as well. I've had a SX900 and a Genos1 and a Korg PA5X, and I can say from personal experience, the Genos2 is the Bomb, the best of the best....period!

I returned the SX900 after 2 weeks to get the Genos 2. I don’t regret it. The Genos 2 is the best instrument I’ve ever owned. There is one thing that can’t be underestimated about the SX900. That is portability. I do a lot of community service visits with my church folks and the SX900 was easy to carry around and the built in speakers held up well in small groups. Other than that, it’s not a fair fight. Genos 2 is the winner by far.
I have owned an SX900 since launch. Still can't explore most rhythms and sounds. For my repertoire I use more bossa nova, pop and pianos. I want to change to the Genos 2 because of the very bad and noisy SX keyboard. However, the price here in Brazil is too high to take to any event.
SX900 piano sound is unacceptable. I have a Genos. 5 or 6 days a week I carry it to gigs. I love your videos. I feel I need a second Genos as a back up just in case it breaks or gets ripped off. You and the Genos have incredible chemistry.

This time dont want to wait till its cheaper. I bought to much cheap stuff, now I'm ready to reach deeper in my pocket. You only life once (not twice like James Bond). please Leigh, it is time for a professional comparism with Korg Pa5x. I am confused between the two. technology on Pa5x seems better in splitting voices across the keyboard, SST, and some other aspects like mixer and Kaoss. on genos2 I can feel the articulation in SArt2 better than DNC sounds of Pa5x. sampling RAM better in Pa5xn if I am not mistaken. can you please demo both side to side and give us your honest opinion what is the one you are goingbto recommend and why?

How does Genos 2 do with world music styles and instruments? I've bought samples for my Genos 1 of individual instruments and often use just the rhythm track of a style. Your Genos 2 sounds brighter, richer, but I use so few of the styles and voices now that I cannot see upgrading.
I have had a Genos 1 for 4 years. But there is so much in it that I don't use because I can't find any info on how to play the more difficult features. Some of your videos are helpful, but you are way over my head on some things, and I would pay for a in-depth tutorial on how to use all the features...
Me too. Most of what I create is New Age and World Music. Not sure Genos 2 would be much improvement. I've had to purchase separate samples to install into expansion. What are you trying to do with your Genos 1?

Hey Leigh, I’ve just watched your video. I’m blind and am supported in playing keyboard, would you still recommend buying Genos 2 ? I currently use the buttons and wheel on psr sx 600 to navigate, do you think genos would be much different ?
what you also get is the Ensemble Voices. Seems you do not really use them. Never saw using this in your videos. I use them heavily for sax sounds (2 voices for 2 melodies), or for other brass voices. Advantage: clear definition which voice should sound on which key you press. And this is needed when you play brass or woodwind instruments.

I never ever iam going to trade my yamaha sx900 for a genos 2 , it not make any sense, the sx900 is a beast and i can do everything you do with that expensive genos 2 , wo the hell pay 6000 dolars , hell no ,what the hell yamaha is thinking about .

Tell me you know nothing about your instrument without telling me you know nothing about your instrument. As an SX900 daily user, I can tell you things that it cant do: 1) FM Synthesis 2) Stereo inputs for reverbs 3) 30 effect inserts, as opposed to the measly 8 on the sx900 4) Better quality wav files for the AWM voices 5) SA2 voices, Ensemble voices, etc 6) Adding to 4, missing amp effects like Tweed guy, Boutique, Yamps, Distomps, 80's small box. Other effects like your uni compressors and Damper resonance effects. 7) We dont even get revo drums, the Genos 2 has taken a step further with ambient drums. 8) AFTERTOUCH, I miss it from my previous Tyros. The list goes on and on.. As Leigh said, you cant call your Skoda a ferrari. The SX900, for a 2018 affordable mid range keyboard, really outshines itself for the price, but there are things that are better. Get rid of that ego and accept it.
@@Eltonoconnor I use my keyboard for music, not for an ego boost over specs as you clearly do. The list of missing features is not really an issue if you don't require them. I'm not here for a match of superiority over the other and my comment was not about any those featuress, it was the fact I preferred built-in speakers and less cable clutter. The ego dent is with you my friend. We will see how people quickly change their minds when Genos 3 comes along, or a completley new model all together, the Egos 1 maybe ?
I bought the SX 900 in order to carry it to smaller venues and save carrying the genos1, but for me, the SX 900 just didn’t have the quality that i needed, so i part exchanged both the Genos1 and the SX900 for my Genos2. Great keyboard.

I'm wanting to use the guitars more on G2 than on G1 as they are so alive and responsive to touch.
