The video is of the garden of Eden. Forbidden apple. A new love that is forbidden. She knows that it's wrong but wants to have fun. The apple on the chair in the beginning is left alone. At the end, biting the apple, she's going for what she wants. Hope that helps you
@@rashaunewalters2722 Cuz she literally says in the lyrics "Oh My God, I can't believe it, OUT ALL OF THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD what is likelihood of jumping out of my life and into your arms..."
The dancers represent the febrile excitement of hedonism, which is exiting, alluring and fascinatingly illicit; but also disorientating, chaotic, ephemeral and devoid of the substance of relationships that develop through shared experiences, mutual honesty and trust. She wants to taste the 'forbidden fruit' of ad hoc encounters, erotic experimentation and no-strings liaisons; but she also fears that she might lose herself, her reputation, and her integrity as a mother to her son if she gives way to every desire that passes through her, as she emerges from the joyless long tunnel of divorce. Finally she does take a bite of the apple, as if conceding to the inevitable, rather than with savouring the sensuality of the moment; and by then she is not particularly taken with the taste. Her appetite was lost in the longing, and the pleasures that had so intrigued her were not all they promised to be, at least not for her. Her search for fulfilment, meaning and enduring love must follow a different path; and, really, just as she knew it would all along. It is almost with a sense of impatience, or annoyance, even, that she abruptly turns on her heel, and briskly walks away, without so much as a glance over her shoulder.
This is actually one of my favorite songs on this album. The beat is so funky and I’m loving it! Edit: Adele said this song is about her anxiety of leaving the house/starting to date again after her divorce and retreating within. The video is supposed to be chaotic.
Listening intently to all the teaching breaks, nodding in complete agreement, knowing full well I can’t sing worth a damn and made my newborn baby cry when I tried to sing him a lullaby.
The Apple bite was representing Adam and Eve and choosing sin, but as a metaphor towards how her relationship was. Really smart of her tbh. “Teetering on the edge of Heaven and Hell Is a battle that I cannot fight” and then “Lord, don't let me," I said, "Lord, don't let me" I said, "Lord, don't let me, let me down" signifying that she was gunna choose the wrong path then in the end she chooses to bite the apple
That song is so good and it's never on any French radio, they always play "Easy on Me" which I love but that's not the only song she wrote on the album and it annoys me that they don't put the other songs of the album on the radio
So I’m not a vocalist but I do play a wind instrument (clarinet) and I had a band director that once described playing at a softer volume in a similar way to how you just described singing quieter. He said your intuition is to use less air, when actually you should use the same amount of air, just focused more. You’re not going to produce a good sound if the softer volume isn’t adequately supported. Anyway, just thought it was interesting hear a similar teaching concept between two totally different instruments
Yes.. I’ve heard it in the Detroit radio market! 👏🏻 I kind of guessed it would be her second single because it’s a sort of antithesis to the piano-ballad Easy On Me. I think it makes perfect sense.
People, or radio stations, seem as entranced by Easy on Me as ever - and it's still #1 in the US, and top 3 in the UK, more than three months after it was released. Oh My God was actually no 2 in the UK the week that 30 came out, just on streams, which seemingly caught her label by surprise. So it has been promoted to second single. It will be interesting to see of the video pushes it back up the charts, but perhaps it's not sufficiently 'Adele' to appeal to quite such a wide range of audiences as her balladry commands. I Drink Wine was supposed to be the second single, but while it's certainly vintage Adele, it's intimidatingly long for the audiences that drive single sales these days, and takes its own sweet time to make its journey. So Adele might just have to settle for her longest stretch at no 1, with gaps, for her lead single, and beating the crap out of all comers with sales of her album. It's not so bad really - and this is a fine looking video to add to her oeuvre - has she had loads of dancers and multiple killer costume dresses before? She manages to command it all easily, in any case, just by being the still centre of the frenzy going on around her - a very regal and appropriate power play, as any actor who has worn a crown knows. Doing more by doing less is the divine right of kings, and queens, and Adele is in her pomp.
I love her voice here too and I hope she keeps this vibe because it will save her vocals. Awesome!!! NO, I have no clue about the video at all STRANGE.
I know she has said when she is at home its full on sweat pants and no makeup and hair down and such, but Adele is one of those women who could go to the grocery store in full blown glam and ball gown and it would seem perfectly appropriate. The woman is a goddess. And the vocals on this track just grab me. They’re so husky and smoky and a total mood. Love it. The song still has that bluesy vibe that she does so well, but the pop beat and instrumentals are fun as hell. Total ear worm material.
Yes! To be Loved is also my favorite! I really love the beginning of the song a lot. And also thanks for that small vocal lesson, i understand it well!
The video describes the mess that she has been through in that period of her life. She wanted love (The apple) and which was a wrong thing to look for at that time cuz she was just getting out of a relationship with her ex-husband ,she couldn't control herself and her thoughts... In conclusion, the video is a mess cuz that period of her life was a mess.
What's that? I wondered, and went to find out. It's effective as a piece of storytelling, and she has a ton of charisma, but I didn't find her vocal particularly impressive, technically at least, on this particular song. She sells it by not singing, in a way; which is a good trick if you can do it, and sustain a listener's attention. But that's something innate to her, rather than her voice per se. Just a thought, and thanks for the tip.
Heyy Tristan. I really love to listen about how they are using and utilizing their voices. Can you please also make a reaction about Alec Benjamin? Thanks a lot for a all the entertaining videos!
This was fun! I agree, Adele's new, chill vibe is great. Have you ever considered reacting to John Cameron Mitchell and Miriam Shor in Hedwig? (My fave!) I'd be curious to know what you think of Michael Pitt in the movie, too.
I’m sorry I comment like while watching the video hahahah, but I love how you switched up from “idk if this is her strong suit” to “actually I love her voice like this” hahahaha
While being set on a deconstructed photography set, so very much acknowledging that she is in the performance-based environment of the music industry. The people around her look like off duty performers and models showing off their hard-earned skills. Everyone is both performing and being themselves. I like the balance! Through the deconstruction we see Adele actively using the story of the forbidden apple as a narrative device: we are carried away by her telling of this story as much as the story itself!
