HEADS UP: The footage shown between 5:54 to 6:16 is incorrectly labelled to be from KINGDOM HEARTS: Birth By Sleep when it is actually from KINGDOM HEARTS 3D: Dream Drop Distance. Apologies for the error!

Great scripting and commentary! Thought-prodding with an engaging, critical dose of interpretation and reasoning.
Nailed the dichotomy between his philosophy of order through power redistribution, and the sheer chaos he wroughts to bring that vision to fruition. The conversation between Young Xehanort and MoM is unequivocally telling of their opposing world views

Honestly, thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed the scripting and commentary, as it’s always rewarding to hear when the deeper layers of the narrative resonate with the people you’re conveying it to. Comments like yours really boost my drive to make more of these videos :)

Is Xehanort maybe a future version of Riku? I've loved Kingdom hearts since the first game released when I was like maybe 8-9, but I only played 1, 2, and 3 a lot, so some parts of the story just confuse me

Hey! First of all, thank you so much for watching the video-I'm really glad you've enjoyed Kingdom Hearts for so long. It’s awesome to hear you’ve been a fan since you were a kid!
To answer your question, Xehanort and Riku are separate characters, but there are definitely connections between them. Xehanort isn't a future version of Riku, but he does manipulate Riku in several ways throughout the series. In the first Kingdom Hearts game, Xehanort (through Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, one of Xehanort’s forms) takes control of Riku's body. Xehanort sees potential in Riku because of his inner darkness, which is why Riku struggles with this throughout the games.
Riku’s journey is about battling this darkness and overcoming it, while Xehanort is the one who embraces darkness for his own ambitions. So, while Xehanort isn't literally Riku’s future, he is a key figure in Riku's development and a symbol of the path Riku could have taken if he fully gave in to darkness. If you check out my channel, there’s a KINGDOM HEARTS playlist which has a Riku analysis video in it. Perhaps that’ll help you further differentiate between Riku and Xehanort.
All-in-all, it’s understandable to be confused with all the time travel and forms of Xehanort that show up, so don’t worry-you’re not alone! This series isn’t exactly known for being very concise and easy to digest (due to many important events in the series being in non-numbered games like 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep) but that’s a part of what makes it fun!
Hope this helps clear things up a bit :)
