I kind of like to theorize that it was similar to Nadhakan, where someone created the masks, and their only power was their containment, and by capturing the Oni warlords, it made the mask embody their power.

Since there was never an explanation for how/why Garmadon grew an extra pair of arms in between the pilot episodes and season one, (at least I don't remember hearing one and I don't think it was the devourer venom since that was already in effect) I like to think that he found the Oni mask of vengeance while wondering around in the Realm of Madness and somehow made the effect permanent.
I mean, it was never said that he didn't find the mask (mostly because the concept didn't exist back then lol) but he could very well have used dark magic to make the mask's effect permanent.
or could just be something naturally linked to being an Oni I mean Lloyd gains four arms when he becomes an Oni, so its definitely tied to being an Oni

well Mystake is believed to have been one of the Oni Warlords, and judging by the fact the Mask of Hatred is not just worn by only female characters in the show but also the fact it creates two ponytails, a hairstyle that is generally associated more with female characters than male characters...Mystake might have been the warlord for the mask of hatred
I have actually made the oni mask of hatred out of air dry clay (the one used for sculptures, not play-doh) it looks amazing honestly, one of my best sculptures I've made yet
I hope we get more oni lore in dragons rising , even if we dont see any of them, since they are a key part of Ninjago lore yet they are barely mentioned.
@A-Kira would love to see more oni lore in ninjago, and while a part of me thinks they wont do that, there are some things that they are setting up for it. There are dragonians and devonians both from the first realm, which seem like that they are inverted oni and dragon versions, where the dragonians are evil and the devonians are good.
@A-Kira I'd love to hear it, can't be weirder than my theories about FSM killing most of the oni from the first realm, forcing the rest to flee, which in turn made him leave (There is some evidence to it, but still jarring for people to hear in my experience lol), or him getting so many elemental powers by booking it after winning a tournament of the sources (although tbf could the the source dragon cores, you know what that makes more sense I think). Lots of "FSM did some bad shit when he was young" theories, I mean he was said to be "a mere child" when he came to ninjago.

I think the oni masks symbolized their users n their story maybe all the oni warlords was the same like mr e harumi n killow n chose them as their puppets maybe if the users use the mask more often the three warlords have been return in n possess their bodies also a proof of this that the mask of deception speak to harumi whith garmadon s voice that inspire her for her actions acording to book garmadon rules i think the warlords plan to return to the world by this people and spare destriction like they do when they was powerful n how ironically that not all the masks has been destroyed maybe the mask of vengence can be something like new vilian of the series n leader of the oni warlords who waiting the right moment to hit
The mask of vengeance was actually mentioned in S15, it was put in the vaults of Borg Tower after S9 along with other artificacts
