    Saw the commercial for it, immediately read the book, now I'm definitely seeing it!

    I'm not the biggest fan of Bob these days. I think he's smug and stuck up his own arse. But his review of Cloud Atlas and his follow up video, "Skin Deep", captures every single thing I thought about this movie. He summarizes it PERFECTLY.
    Way to go, Bob.

    This is such an ambitious and well made movie that it's a shame that a lot of critics and viewers confused their own hatred of the movie with the movie's quality.

    I know this has been said over and over again about movies that are based on books, but you definitely NEED to read the book if you like this movie. Everything good about the multiple stories and tones in the movie are fleshed out in the book. Also, I would strongly advise reading Ghost Written, another book by the same author (David Mitchell) that actually has a few of the characters from Cloud Atlas in it. That is all.

    The fact that this movie was not even nominated for best make up or special effects says all you need to know about why I don't follow the Oscars anymore.

    I saw this one cold, more or less. I was somewhat familiar with the book but hadn't heard or read anything about the movie when I'd rented it. While I didn't think every section worked, I recognized the grand themes and talent on both ends of the camera. It was clear that the cast and directors went all in on this one. I wasn't sure whether I'd just watched a classic that's not appreciated in its own time or a hot mess, but I knew how ballsy this endeavor was and I wanted to see it again. Tykwer(sp?) And the Wachowskis aren't afraid of taking huge chances, which can be fun even if it fails.

    To be honest…I thought Cloud Atlas was the best piece of cinema I've ever seen in my life! Hands down. It was amazing!

    I loved this movie. It's a shame it got zero respect at the Oscars. It should have received nods at least for Effects, Editing, Make-up, Score, Supporting Actor for Broadbent and Supporting Actress for Bae.

    Holy Ballz, finally. I'm so happy to hear a positive word on this film. I freaking loved it. Loved it! So many people hate this movie, and I just don't get it. Yes it's confusing, and yes it could have been done better, but despite its flaws, it was so damn good!

    Wow, I'm glad that it succeeded in adapting Mitchell's book. I was affraid it would just fall apart. I'll take your word for it that they handled the transitions and interlinking of the stories and settings well. :-)

    The one possible problem with the movie is that it IS a remix of the book.
    The plots in in the book are layered in Lasagna fashion slipping into the next plot in midstory.
    The movie blends all the plots together turning it into six-players ping pong.
    Pretty but extremely hard to follow.

    • @Theyungcity23
      @Theyungcity23 8 лет назад

      +Zvi mur How is it hard to follow? It's just several stories.

    • @MANJYOMETHUNDER111

      So, basically the Epic of Gilgamesh or Rashomon?

    • @zvimur
      @zvimur 8 лет назад

      Theyungcity23 It's 6.5 different stories, and not layered like in the book but spliced together like a quilt.

    When I saw this movie there was a racist, homophobic, loudmouthed, old woman behind me saying the worst things in the theater and I found it strangely ironic that she was watching this movie. She pissed me off so much I wanted to tell her off right then and there. When the movie got out I saw this old man (roughly the same age) and we talked about the movie. We both had ideas about it that the other over looked and we talked for hours. It was such a contrast and made me think.
    I love this movie
