@@renenenee881tbf, children’s names aren’t always a good idea either - if the kid ends up changing their name or transitions, you’re gonna be stuck with a deadname on your body forever and neither of you would want that. Zodiac signs, birth seasons or things that represent them are probably way safer. For me, I’d say names would work for memorial tattoos, and not much else

OK so I have a little bit of a theory as to why these things seem "cursed."
I think the type of relationships where people make these sort of extreme, permanent gestures are maybe a little codependent or obsessive or just highly emotional to begin with. And that type of relationship can be volatile leading to fights, break ups, etc.
I got a matching tattoo with this girl I was best friends with and our relationship was very emotional and very confusing. We started hooking up but we were also best friends and I think that blurred line of sex/romance/friendship was super messy. She's the only person I ever got a matching tattoo with and eventually our relationship became so volatile that we basically had to break up.
With my normal, healthy friendships, our relationship aren't so intense or emotionally charged even if we have a lot of love for each other and because they are more mellow, I think we're less inclined to permanently mark our bodies with a symbol of our love for each other, ya know?
Idk how to word all this especially because I've just thought of this for the first time lol but hopefully this makes sense.

    • @LionSPH
      @LionSPH Год назад +15

My bf and I also had like a really intense, emotional beginning to our relationship. Just one of those things where you fall hard for each other really fast and it feels so magical and like meant to be.
We got tattooed together but the tattoos were completely unrelated, we just went to the same artist and hung out while the other person got tattooed. He got a garlic bulb on his shoulder and I got a cauldron on my forearm. They have nothing whatsoever to do with each other, but I remember laying in bed that night and thinking "what have I done? If we break up, this tattoo will always remind me of him! This was a crazy thing to do!" And we literally had only been together like a month at the time of our tattoos.
We've been together 4 years now and I feel like we've only become healthier and even though we love each other very much, we don't have that manic, kind of obsessive type of relationship we had in the beginning.

That’s my thought too. I think it’s more the psyche behind getting a matching tattoo, than the tattoo itself. It says a lot to brand yourself for another person. I don’t mean that in a negative or judge-y way because I have two tattoos for other people. But they’re my favorite ones and they were people who’ve made a lasting impact

I don’t regret it, mostly. I should’ve listened to the artist when he said the letters were too close together and now, almost 9 years later, it’s barely readable. Also, it’s on the ribs, under-boobish. I wish it was prettier, if anything.

I don't have any opinions about the decisions of adults. Do what you want, get what you want. What other people do has nothing to do with anyone besides them. The only tattoo advice that matters, make sure your tattoo artist is good, if your artist is good at least you will have a high-quality tattoo that you might not like one day vs having a crappy tattoo that you also don't like. It's not that deep.

I got into several fandoms due to other people, so sometimes said fandoms remind me of them even if we don't talk. Would still get a tattoo of said fandoms even if there is a bittersweet side. I don't like script tattooes for myself, so I would never get someone's name, and portraits of non-fictional characters would make me feel watched (I don't put up pictures of relatives in my apartment for the same reason, at least not the bedroom).

I have a copy of a friend's tattoo that I (and several of our mutual friends in our group) got in his memory when he passed suddenly at 32. It was my first highly visible tattoo, and it was a perfect way to remember him, and to make that jump into visible tattoos. I wanted it in the exact same place as his, and it represented him so very well, i have no regrets. I miss him every day.
I also got a bestie tattoo, they're identical except mirror images on opposite arms, and the design was very carefully thought out. Half of the design represents me, the other half represents her, and the two parts intertwine at the base, as we were chosen sisters, and felt we were from the same roots. And we added a small part that represented our favorite inside joke, a moment in our friendship that made us both laugh until we cried. Our friendship ended years later, my physical health and her mental health both declined so badly that the strain broke us apart, and broke her apart from her partner as well. This tattoo covers my entire inner forearm, and while the memory of our break hurts, it doesn't undo the joy and love that we shared for many more years before, and i do not regret our friendship, so i don't regret my tattoo either. As with the first i mentioned, the memory of our bond and of her in general will always matter to me, I'll always be grateful for our time together, and i anticipate going to my grave still with these tattoos.
I also have a tattoo dedicated to my parents, but as with ALL of these tattoos, a stranger would have no idea that i share these tattoos with another person. I am very strategic about making my tattoos deeply personal but also very subtle in their meanings. As someone else commented, i agree with the rules of No Names, No Faces. I'm a portrait artist, but i would NEVER put a portrait on my body... the only tattoos i have that are instantly easy for a stranger to understand are ones gotten in memory of my puppers -- because i get exact paw prints of theirs, that i make sure to get on paper while they are still very much with me.
I think humans are extremely emotional creatures, we have such passionate feelings for one another that we always believe it is impossible for us to one day lose those closest relationships. I know better. The only friends and even family that i know I'll always have close relationships with are ones who are already departed, and we were still bonded when they passed. It's sounding morbid as i type, haha, but as long as someone is still alive, I'm fully aware that my relationship with them could one day change or end entirely, but as long as a tattoo dedicated to that bond is done with that strategic subtlety, i don't anticipate regrets, because of how i am able to continue valuing past relationships that went sour. It's just a fact that every person I've loved in any way HAS left a permanent mark on my life, so i don't see any issue with memorializing those marks with body art. These people will always be a part of who i am at the end of the day.
TLDR.... it's a smart approach to make sure a paired tattoo with someone can also be a stand-alone piece that suits you as an individual. It works for me! 💕💕💕

💕 one matching w a friend, my only cover-up. Not because of the person, who I have nothing but love for, but just because it’s not a tattoo I would’ve chosen on my own. One similar-not-matching with my sister, way better, still love it.

My fiancé and I got tattoos together but I (as the heavily tattooed one in the relationship) insisted on getting tattoos that are super different from each other lol. He got a turtle (his first tattoo) and I got a run 😅.
I fully believe getting matching tattoos with or names of spouses is a jinx lol

2/3 of my matching tattoos i am no longer friends with, but i don't regret any of them! they're all designs i love on their own anyway and i will forever cherish the memories and love i had for those people regardless if there's even bad feelings about other things. a lot of my tattoos are specific to my life at a certain time or place so they will forever be cherished regardless of the different phases of life i move through :)
(also no names is my only rule... unless maybe i'm married or my kids one day who knows)

I have a "matching" tattoo with my, now, ex. We basically just had tattoos referencing the same video game that we both loved. But we each picked our favourite thing and got personal tattoos, we just went into the studio together. I think it's worse for her as I had the initial idea for the design she got. As for me, I work on removing her presence in the shop from my memories and I just have tattoos of a video game I really like now.

I got a matching tattoo with my sister and our close friend. I sometimes forget that it's a matching tattoo because it's important to me and would've been something I would've gotten regardless of whether my sis and friend got it too or not. I don't regret it one bit.
I even had a falling out with my sister for 4 months but even that didn't make me regret the tattoo. I still liked it. But now we're all good again 😂

I don't have matching tattoos with my husband because they don't have tattoos lol but I have a couple that are dedicated to them and I'm planning more. I DID wait until we'd been together 11 years to get any tho lol
I have a heart on my thigh with Babe in it, which is their nickname and a name they use often online. I have blood berries on my face which is a reference to their favorite video game. And I'm getting their birth year on my right hands fingers, I have my birth year on my left hands fingers already.
So the only one that might come back to bite me is the birth year, should we ever divorce. But we have a pretty good track record lol. Otherwise the others are just tattoos with meaning, no one would ever know they were about a specific person.
I also have an actual matching tattoo with someone I drifted apart from. But they were a huge part of my life and I don't regret it at all. It's just a small rose on my hip, but it was their first tattoo so it was super meaningful. We got tattoos together again, not matching but by the same artist. So they were a very dear friend to me at one point. They changed my life in a big way. I'll always have fond memories of those tattoos.

💕💕💕 I do think that getting your partners name tattooed on you is like signing a death warrant for the relationship. Even if you are really strong together and think it's a "for ever and EVER" thing, things are bound to go wrong after that tattoo. Matching ones aren't so bad though because no-one else knows it's a "matching" one. And I think Justin Bieber Pants doesn't need to get that little portrait covered or removed because it's not immediately obvious that it's Selena Gomez. It's a bad portrait but it's not a bad tattoo (well, it IS, but it could be a lot worse!), it could be seen as just some woman. We can see that it's a woman. It doesn't have to be a representation of a PARTICULAR woman, it's just "a woman". But if I was one of his tattoos, I would want to get HIM removed!
Love your content, Celle. Not just because you are beautiful. 🖤

Totally think it’s a curse. I’m very cautious. I didn’t get my first ink until I was 47. In just a couple of years, I’m now up to three large ones and a half sleeve. Didn’t want to do any of that until I was really “sure” about a life commitment to the ink. With that as background, my wife and I have been together 18 years (married for 15). Can’t imagine my life without her. But would never get her inked on me for fear that it would create some bad mojo.

I got a matching tattoo with my mom for Christmas last year. And me and my mom have been tight for my entire life. So I don't think it will be a bother and I plan to get a magic tattoo with my wife once I marry her. If I ever get married. I plan to get matching tattoos with a lot of people I don't think it's really your curse it just depends on who you get it with. If you get it with somebody you've known since childhood you're probably not going to regret it even if you have a falling-out with that person especially if you get something cool.

My right arm has 13 tattoos. 12 was picked by people who has played a role in my life. The final was my dad’s badge ( he passed away prior to me doing that arm) I fully stand with no getting names unless it’s your children or parents or as a memorial to someone who has passed. But a matching tattoo is different. Even if something happens only you truly know what that tattoo means.

I No longer speak to the best friend bc she was so toxic lmao but our tattoos were different, they just had the same theme. I don’t regret the tattoo bc I got something that I personally liked, and it doesn’t have any indication that it is a matching tat so no harm was done at the end of the day

💕I have 2 matching theme tattoos, one with my mom and one with 2 of my best friends that I've know for my entire life basically. I say face portraits and names are a big no no in my opinion. The only exceptions I would consider for a name are if it's your kid name, your parents name or for grand parents. I would still prefer to have a piece that represent a person way more than a name. The one with my mom are two different tattoos but same theme and same colors schemes, done by the same artist few days apart. And they are medium size tattoos, mine in in my inner forearm and my mom is on the area between her collarbone and her arm, it's a relatively big size tattoo and it was her first tattoo ever! The one I have with 2 of my best friends, one of them I've known from the day I was born so she's been my friend for 30 years, and our other friend is a childhood friend we've know since we were 5-6 years old, who was also my first roommate, I've lived with her for 3 years and it was such a cool experience! Same here, matching theme tattoos but different and personnalised to each of us 3! I think matching differents tattoos are the best!

I'm planning on getting a matching tattoo with my mom. I think that even if something happened, if we were to fight and never want to talk to each other (which I don't believe would happen but who knows?), she would still be my mother. I still wouldn't mind having a symbol of her on my skin because she'll always be important to me. You didn't really touch on matching tattoos with family members, but I think they are less "controversial" than a couple tattoo for example. Yes, the relationship could go bad, even with someone from your family, but if you've always had a good relationship, chances are it will stay that way until you / they pass away.

SOOO glad I don't have one (though we may have, cus I have one of a cat that's to me, my guardian, but it's HIS cat). I don't really care if he has one of this same cat cus as long as it's not matching TO ME and that the cat still means a lot to me, that's all it matters! 🥰

If your partner pushes you to get a super invasive tattoo like their face on your neck or name on your face, that is most likely an abuser. That is dominating behavior trying to mark you as theirs and make it very hard for you to leave or even support yourself. Even if it’s less extreme like just their name on your arm, pushing for that fast is still a red flag.
