I don't get tired of listening to this composition, about 16 years ago I played it, when I was studying classical percussion, now after a long time I will be able to have my own marimba, a marimba is traveling by boat to Chile, my country ... finally I will be able to again playing this beautiful piece, thanks for composing something so wonderful, your work has always inspired me. Cristóbal Zurita from Santiago de Chile
I've heard this peice played so many times, but I really haven't heard alot of the nuances you seem to highlight in your performance of it. Such a beautiful instrument and such a great performance of a wonderful piece. Good work 😊
Hi Paul, Your music inspires me as a young marimba player, high school junior, and gives me a reason to expand my repertoire of solos. Thank you for such amazing pieces such as this one and Rhythm Song, those and other pieces inspire me to touch the marimba even more. -John
@@Scriabin_fan Hi Eliijah - yes, the groove was VERY MUCH intended and I was very pleased that Rani wanted to "just dance" - if I could have danced while playing it, I would have :). All the best mates! Paul Smadbeck
Hello Paul! I'm Pablo form Quito, Ecuador! I'm about to graduate in percussion and I'm gonna perform this wonderful piece! I´m happy to know about you through playing this piece! Best regards and thank you for this jewel! :)
Hi Paul, My name is Jose I'm 17 and i study percussion since 2012. I'm from Spain and this year (my last year for medium grade), I'm playing this masterpiece. In addition, I'm doing a work about you and also about Virginia Tate. I've got some information but if you can help me with your personal point of view about your life and about the history of Virginia Tate (how did you compose it?, what were your inspirations to compose it?) I'm so greatfull to you. Thanks for all Paul, your music pieces generate a lot of good feelings on me. Thanks for your atention. Jose

I am considering playing this for my solo and ensemble competition. It is such a lovely piece. Is it compatible for a 4.5 marimba? because I am looking at the sheet music and I don't see anything below a low f, but all the online stores (LonestarPercussion, Steveweiss, etc.) all say 4.6.

Nobody every brings out the low end like in this recording, and it sounds so nice this way. I miss playing this piece so much
I have been listening to this piece for 10 years. I love this composition, and I am happy that Paul has made his own recording of it. Thank you

thaaaaa GOAT
At 4:00, I really wanna just dance, I don't know why
Tbh this solo some underlying groove to it I don’t think Paul smadbeck intended that though
Especially with the mallet that is being played on every “and” of the sixteenth note at the beginning

Aaron Zoll I played this piece for a concert last year, and I only needed a 4.5 octave. the lowest note is a low f# :)
Two people missed the like button 😂
Looks like one of them found it
no one can miss it anymore (:
1:14 is where i feel it
What mallets should i use for this piece?
My go-to general mallets which I would use now for VT are the Encore NM 4B mallets
Paul Smadbeck thank you (you should compose more, I’m big fan of your work). :)
Yum
