    It also matters what band your phone is connecting to, vs the MoFi unit. The one i chose supports Band 71, which is T-Mobile's newer spectrum they lit up all over the country last year. My phone is bouncing between B2, B12 and B71 constantly, but my current Netgear MR1100 Router is connect to the B2 consistently.

    I have this. To use a router behind this you must use the #1 ethernet port NOT the WAN port then select IP passthrough. I also tried 2 Yagi antennas but the flat panel Mofi antennas worked far better. My setup with Yagi's I used the short cable from the Yagi's direct to the Mofi connector with no extension cables. The 5 Dbi Mofi antennas gave between 10 to 20 Db better signal. The WAN port is if you want to use failover to another provider's router. You can then have a dual provider speed.

      Yeah, I need to do another demo...when i say "take it out of the yellow"....I mean run the cat5/6 cable from the yellow ports on the MOFI....to the blue WAN port on your existing router....I should re-record the whole shabang....thanks for your comment Henry.

    if you get directional MIMO antenna. If your network and device supports it, you'll get crazy speeds. worth looking at.

    It may be good news that ATT will be grandfathering the old $35 plan, but the bad news is that they will disconnect it as soon as they see the sim put back into a mobile router (they can tell by imei of the device being used in). :(
    I wouldn't be surprised if the new ATT "unlimited data plan" will be priced much higher and even limited by tiers... we shall see.
    Just wait for the April 1st Tmobile/Sprint merger to go through, and you'll see they will have the most kick ass network around.

    This was a nice presentation, I'm also using the MOFI with a AT&T Sim and unlimited service, but it's costing me $159/month - have you fooled around more with those paddle antennas? It seems hard to find specifics on directions, orientation etc... you ended up at a 45 degree. What do you know specifically about those paddles and how they should be oriented when trying to receive a specific tower signal? I definitely need a better provider service as I think I'm paying too much for too little. Thumbs UP and thanks again!

    • @FullyTeched
      @FullyTeched  5 лет назад

      HI Frederick...thanks for droppin a comment and like! So...I don't know the technical reasons why having mine angled like this works better than vertical or nearly layed out flat....but I'm betting it has something to do with the general polarization proof online where they get better throughput/speed when they use yagi antennas mounted at a 90 degree separation from each other.
      Search "yagi antenna orientation" on YT...quite a few good videos on it. Anyway...would bet it's similar with the blade/whip antennas that come stock.
      One guy is also getting a bump from placing a couple layers of aluminum foil behind the antennas. It worked on mine for downloads....but killed the upload bandwidth...but might be worth trying out.
      yeah 159 sounds pricey...is it an old plan? Search Ebay for "unlimited at&t data" or similar...there's tons of them for 30-80 bucks a month. A little risky as they are just transferred plans...but just pick up a another one if it gets dropped.
      I was paying 76 bucks a month for DSL 11mbps down...768bps UP...which is fine for surfing ....but uploading YT videos took FoReVeR :-)

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 5 лет назад +1

      @Frederick Dunn < Instead of your expensive $159/monthly plan, you can get this ATT unlimited/unthrottled tablet data plan for only $35 bucks a month which works fine in a MoFi box.

    what's the benefit of connecting it to your dsl/existing router? I have crappy dsl and I'm considering getting a Mofi, it's just that I already have Sprint and this requires AT&T

    • @FullyTeched
      @FullyTeched  4 года назад

      Does not require AT&T....it's just worked out for my area....and I found a cheap ipad plan. You can combo this router with any other carrier almost....need to check the Bands and type before you try it tho. For example.....Cricket,Verizon..etc..use CDMA and I"m not sure if that type will work.
      The mofi's 2.4ghz wifi sucks...it's slow and doesn't have 5Ghz let alone ac or ax compatible like modern routers. So....passing the traffic through another router allows you to bypass the mofi wireless...and broadcast/receive via a newer...faster router.

      Hi, no the mofi only can do 2.4Ghz....it's kinda sucks on the wifi side of things. I'd buy a newer home wifi router that supports the throughput and distance you need AND THEN plug the mofi into that new router.
      Others have commented on this as they have noticed reduced speeds when just using the mofi's wifi. I have a cheap TPlink router that covers my whole house...was 100 bucks years ago...I'm sure there's much better now for cheaper...but serves me just fine.
      Hope this helps...

    • @FullyTeched
      @FullyTeched  4 года назад

      Erin, you need to check your db levels before you'll have an estimate of how well this is going to work. To give you an idea...I'm about 8 miles from the nearest AT&T tower. You can find this online at cellmapper.net You need to have a db of 100-110 to really expect anything great from the mofi and stock antennas. The lower the db number ....the stronger/better.
      More research needed before you can be confident it's going to work well.....

    • @FullyTeched

      I believe it will. I know others have accomplished the same thing using a netgear nighthawk modem. I think the trick is to have the SIM card registered as a tablet...and the modem needs to be able to recognize it as such. The reason why I used the ebay SIM account transfer is because I don't have a tablet with 4G that I could register the ATT service with.

    • @FullyTeched
      @FullyTeched  4 года назад

      Service is still solid. You need to match the SIM card up with the matching carrier to work. Mofi setup was really easy I thought...I plugged mine into my existing home router.....it handed out dhcp to the new device....nothing much to do besides turn off the wifi on the mofi itself. Others have pointed out the 2.4 band only bgn wifi on the mofi sucks as it can't do dual band concurrently....not an issue for me...but if your whole house depends on wifi....use your existing wifi setup with it....or purchase a newer home router you can "hang" the mofi off of....

      Storm Strike What I like about it is you can connect unlimited devices to it but mainly I don't have to worry about wearing it out. The other option with Carrier aggregation is the Nighthawk M1, which does have better wifi standard duel band 2.4ghz and 5ghz 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and mofi is 802.11b/g/n 2.4ghz so you'll need a router plugged into mofi for wifi. But nighthawk is not made to stay plugged in and be core of home internet, you'll be buying battery for it every 6 months maybe. Both are MIMO so these 2 options are it as far as 4G quality home internet.

In the city, I'd try a omni-directional first...assuming your pretty close to the tower......you can pick up a dual sma omni-directional antenna on ebay for 20 bucks or so...

      @dbenders1 I was able to speed up from 10-20mbps to 35-55mbps by plugging in a $40 netgear AC750 and turning off wifi on mofi. I plugged my laptop and ps4 into the mofi to and they get better speeds, 58-67mbps. my signal could be better to -104 to -109dbi so I did buy a directional panel antenna, update this comment when it comes in.

      Lol att is not good for any gaming. Go with Verizon if you can. To answer your question the nat type is 3 (strict) unless someone else with att with a real land internet joins then you can chat.

    You can get the instructions off of ebay with the website and the ime number that u need under 5 dollars and a net10 simcard kit for 1 dollar and set it up you're self for the 34.99 att plan and buy a att mf279 hotspot off of Ebay it has one ethernet port so buy a router so u have 4 ethernet ports and longer range for the house and a 20 dollar aigital sma antenna off of Amazon it has suction cup for a window for all the equipment it will run u 160 for setup then 34.99 a month and I get speeds between 70 and 85 download speeds dont waste ur money on the mofi hotspot the instructions are horrible and ur speeds are slow and all over the place and the att mf279 is so easy to setup period 👍

      Joshua, thanks for the tips...soooo.....does the att mf279 have the ability to modify the TTL ms timings? Do you know if it does band aggregation? Guess I overpaid for my retail AT&T SIM kit at 9.99 eh? Well, I didn't have a 4G enabled tablet so didn't have a valid IMEI to sign up for AT&T service........sooooo, how would I solve that?

      @@FullyTeched type on Ebay att unlimited hotspot plan and u will see it's like the 5th one down for 4.50 and 975 sold he gives u the ime number and the att website to go to by email after u pay and u just have to buy a simcard kit I like the net10 sim kit because it comes with all the sizes for att and tmobile cards in one kit

    • @joshuaknows8273
      @joshuaknows8273 4 года назад +1

      Also the mf279 is a true att hotspot so when u buy the att sim card u dont have to play around with bands its already set up for att for one and it's so simple to hookup. Then download off Google play store network cell info lite app it gives the direction the nearest att towers are so u can point a sma antenna the right direction 👍

    Just telling you so you know, NO YOU DID NOT buy a grandfathered plan. That plan you can activate yourself today, all you need is a SIM card, it’s free to activate and 35$ a month, he’s charging 20$ for him to do it , you can do it free yourself in less then 5 mins just saying !

      @FullyTeched  4 года назад

      Yes, others have told me this as well.....I need to make an update video. I couldn't find the plan when I bought the mofi...and thought the ebay was the ONLY way to obtain this as it was a TABLET plan....but now realize I can use the IMEI number from the MOFI...and the SIM/ICCID number from the SIM card....and register/activate the service!! Thanks for the comment...take care...

      I already have everything I was taking it that you could use the IMEI number off of the mofi4500 instead of having to go with one of the eBay people like you used to get an IMEI/account setup. huh? That sentence doesn't makes sense. I paid the dude on ebay 22 bucks for the account setup because I didn't have an Ipad or a 4G device (tablet) that I could register the SIM card with!! MEI and ICCID required when signing up the account. The SIM I bought at Walmart was 9.99 like everywhere else in the world. But yeah, totally jippppppped...totally.
