Alaska Brown Bear | Questionable Shot

  • "The Rainbow Bear" may be a weird name for a title but it does have some meaning. During the hunt, as hunters will tend to do, I second guessed myself on passing a nice bear on the second day.
    I was also way more home sick than normal. I had left my wife, Deborah to run the business on her own and I had zero communication with her.
    I was able to communicate with her on the morning of day 8, went back into the field during a significant rain storm but as time came for the evening hunt, the rain stopped, the sun came out for a brief time and created a rainbow right at our boat. You can hear in the video, I say, "It's a sign" and sure enough it was. I was able to take this gorgeous boar that evening.

    Im an Alaskan resident, did a self guided spring hunt in 2015, last 10 days of season. Never rained a drop in 10 days and highs of 80 deg, a record in Juneau. Seas like glass the whole time. Couldn't believe it. Saw lots of bears but no big boars. They stayed up high feeding on grasses up high. Congratulations on your hunt, your buddy killed a really nice boar. 👍

      I 🙏 pray your comment is truth, but im sorry to say it mankind has done soooo much damage throughout the centuries that is irreparable. I really do believe that with all that we've done it's too late. We've taken mother nature forgranted and the flooding and melting ice caps, the glaciers breaking off by the day. How dare mankind look to another planet to destroy! It makes me dizzy to think of all the changes I've seen in my 61 yrs.

    Really Enjoyed Watching Your Hunt. That Bear Was Worth The Wait! I Would Love A Super Dark Brown Bear Like That. Would Totally Mount That Thing! Oops, Not The Best Choice Of Words! 😬 But You Know What I Meant, Lol. Also, Piss On The Jealous Haters Making Stupid Comments. They Just Come With The Territory. Because Your First Shot Was A Thing Of Beauty! A Standing Prone (Difficult) And Still Double Lunged Him! That Bear Wasn't Going To Go To Far, Even With The Guides Shots. Besides, He Is Probably The One Who Shot It The Butt! Lol.
    Where Did He Shoot The Bear Once Up In The Alders? He Probably Just Fired A Round In It Even Tho It Was Already Dead Right Where You Found Him Laying At.
    YOUR Shot Was A Lethel Killer, Period. Question, Did Any Of You Carry A Side As Well? If So, What Caliber & Kind?

    • @OutdoorSolutions
      @OutdoorSolutions  Год назад

      Thank you for the kind words. Yes, first shot was lethal. Guides shot was front shoulder, we don’t know if it was his first or second shot. Bear had 3 holes, 2 from my 300 and 1 from the guide.
      No side arm on this one.

    Cool video and some cool guys,,,,,,,,i think you did good by picking southeast AK to hunt. The Peninsula used to be the bomb,,,,,,,in my opinion it has been way over harvested and i hate saying that. I think when they changed the guide rules in AK to where any guide could guide any where in AK is when Peninsula went sour. There was incentive no to over harvest your guide area back in the past when guides only had one guiding area. The Peninsula went from a few Guides to hundreds of Guides and the Bear population went Down. 1991 was my first hunt down there,,,,we saw 8 to 10 Brownies a Day,,,most hunters back then killed their Bears on first or second day. That was the only place i took a electric fence in Alaska,,,because there were that many Bears and some had attitudes. 2007 back at same spot, saw alot of Bears, but not as many as 91, had to work a bit to get our 2 Bears. 2011 saw just a hand-ful of Bears and got mine on 15th day, same spot. Thats been over 10 years since, by the video's i watch it hasnt got any better and i would say Worse,,,,,and again i hate saying this

      Hitting the water is deceiving but we understand where you are coming from, the first shot that hit the water actually double lunged the bear. Guide hit in shoulder, Greg’s follow up shot also connected in the hind quarter.
      Bear would have died from first shot.

      Yea, we have another video coming out showing the "behind the scenes" portion. My first shot was double lung, my second shot actually hit him in the hind quarter and we recovered the bullet.
