I just had my first camping last weekend. Prior to that, I've been watching your videos to be prepared and and enjoy the experience. And I'd like to thank you for doing these videos, it helped me a lot. I can't wait for my next camping trip!
Thanks Amanda, I not only love camping, all be it in a camper trailer, but the one thing that I do love it is that it gets you away from the daily grind. We head off on a 5 day back packing track on 1 June so will be camping for real. Your tips and tricks are going to help no end. Thanks again keep these videos coming, love them 😀
@@Cait683 If you're camping right next to your car, sure, go ahead and use your air mattress. I think you'll find that there are also plenty of other sleeping pads that are much more packable that are quite comfortable out there. If you're in the states, and you have an REI near you, take a look there.
Great video, I am 65 and camp with my dog . For me it is relaxing and calming. The sounds of nature are so soothing.I have a tent that is all screen on top and I remove the fly when it's not raining. Being in the woods makes it easy to see all of the stars. I also enjoy camping in the 🌧️. I love the sound of rain on my tent. I really sleep well when it rains. 💤😴
Great video! I took my first solo roadtrip (with my dog) last Oct to New Mexico. I rented a Renegade with a rooftop tent and stayed at a state park outside of Roswell. I poured over your videos for packing, safety and meals and they were so incredibly helpful. I'm planning a month long solo adventure (with a mutt) for 2023 to Wyoming, South Dakota, and Montana and would love some advice about camping in bear county. I will be outfitted for both Jeep and tent camping. Thanks again for all your hard work!
Reason #8 - your parents told you there are bugs and snakes and you should be afraid! That was a biggy for me as a kid. I never went camping until I was married, and of course I hated it the first half dozen times for all the reasons you listed above... but then it just got great when we went to our first National Park and a light bulb moment happened for me. Now I love love love camping and want to go every weekend.
I love camping! I usually do not write comments when I watch RUclips Videos, but Amanda you always know how to cheer me up when I feel down. You are like my older sister I never had. Providing wisdom. Very thankful! I found your channel :) Thank you! for being awesome!
I love camping because we are always moving - tent set-up, unpacking, cooking, walking - then tear it all down. I love the activity, the exercise, the sights and the fresh air.
Confession: I am a glamper, but I love camping! I'm 51 and started camping just 3 years ago with my hubby. He tried to get me to go for years, and now he has created a monster! I can't wait for the season to start! I need my first morning camp coffee!
I love camping! I started watching your videos to help my daughter learn to love camping because I didn’t, and I wish I had! We appreciate the lessons and perspective you share!
Your wisdom regarding “perspective” and “adversity builds strength” was very meaningful and refreshing to watch. Nice job Amanda! 👍 And,,,, I love camping!
Your comment on being uncomfortable with slowing down is *exactly* why I go camping. I crave that disconnect from my busy life, from the city, from chores & paying bills & my job. I need that time to be in nature & listen to birds or read and watch a campfire!!
Loved this video!👍 I’m 63 and my family & extended family (6 total) just got back from tent camping in weather in the 90s. Most folks would ask, “Why????” It is doing something totally different than your norm, experiencing different sights, sounds, smells, foods (watched some of your camping food videos) and the best part is making memories for 3 kids under the ages of 9. I never got to go camping as a kid and am trying to make up for it, I guess. 😄 Camping seems to be one of those things people either love or hate.
I LOVE CAMPING! I am taking my 5 year old daughter to a 3 days car camping with me for the first time this May long weekend! She's already very excited... Very great presentation indeed! Thank you..
Exped Mega Mat was one of the many things I learned about from you and it’s made SUCH a difference!!! Thanks for all the amazing info you share-I’m so much more physically and mentally comfortable camping now and I LOVE CAMPING!!!
I totally agree with the comfort reset... After being on a dry (cold, desert) camping trip, the joy of the hot water faucet when we got home, was indescribable!
I LOVE CAMPING! When I was young, my parents took us camping every summer. At the time it was an affordable vacation and having 3 boys, a new house and only one breadwinner at the time, it was the prudent thing to do. We visited many National Parks in Canada and I will forever cherish those moments. As an adult with 2 sons myself, I have been camping with them many times as well. They are grown adults now and continue to camp on their own. At 63, I still get out on my own and really enjoy the outdoors and all the variables that go with camping. Depending on the location, I will also bring my Mountain Bike and Kayak. Thanks for all your videos, they're very helpful. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this video! I just love all your content. My husband has been reluctant to start camping because all of his prior experiences was when he was in his early twenties and the guys were not prepared and pretty much just drank alcohol by a river and called it camping. So glad we will be starting our camping adventures next month. Your videos have helped tremendously.
#4 Slow down. This is exactly what i want!! It might seem foreign at first but the art of relaxing and enjoying nature and family - that to me is a dream vacation. I'll be camping for a week in Yosemite next month and i want to savor each moment ❤
I love camping! Honestly, I've been camping with my grandparents since I could walk. It's always been a part of my life and I enjoy every second of it.
I love camping!!! As much as I "glamp" with my popup camper it's exactly as you described...an adventure different from the comforts of home and a constant challenge to separate myself from my daily life and do it different in nature.
Getting an organization system down is what separates a beginner from a camper. I few weeks before a trip I had a dream that I organized everything into nice plastic bins and was so disappointed when I woke up that I had to go out the next day and invest in my own system. I'm never done refining my setup, but it's my pride and joy during every trip.

I love camping! ;0) And I love the video too. Bins are GREAT. I live full-time in a self-converted minivan. My dad & I(I am 53 & he is in his 70s!) together built a raised bed with 2 inches gap from the top of all my bins(so I have an actual twin bed with the entire underneath for storage) & each one has specific contents. This bin has socks, underwear & t-shirts, that bin has shorts, sweatpants & pajama pants. This one has foodstuffs that require cooking, that one has 'quick' stuff, like snacks or things accessed often, like coffee(yes!) or propane/butane, paper plates, etc. Stuff rarely accessed is stored waay underneath. Another thing that can be super-important & can even help avoid certain health hazards - putting foodstuffs in a bin with some type of latching lid. You don't want to be on the trip of a lifetime & it's time to eat, you pull out a box of food items & 15 mice decide it's time to abandon ship! Now **all** that food is contaminated(did you know mice are incontinent? Yup, they just pee & poop all over everything all the time!) & MUST be thrown out. Obviously we're not talking about canned goods here... but I sure hope you wiped the top off before you jabbed it with your can opener. (eeewww) But yeah... BINS!
Went on my first family camping trip in Sept and WE.LOVED.IT! Your videos were such a help as I prepared! It was actually a large group of families from our homeschool coop which made it so amazing for the kids. Brought back memories for me as a kid of going to camp (never camped with my fam tho) and it was absolutely beautiful. Yes there was work, yes I was cold the first night, forgot my pillow and extra blanket, baby woke up like every hour lol BUT we embraced it and loved being unplugged. My kids weren’t bored so they didn’t get that benefit (running around and biking/swimming all day with friends!) but I think the outdoor time was so precious and we can’t wait for our next trip in June with the same coop!!! KEEP UP THE VIDEOS:)))
I love this!! Some of my favorite memories from childhood are when my family would go camping. One day if/when I have kids, I'm planning to homeschool them, and I would love to set up this sort of group camping! I think nature is so great for kids to experience.
Excellent. Excellent. Excellent video! Such great points to dissect why people don’t like camping. I LOVE camping, been camping my whole life and I’m almost 50. I can’t get enough of it. Well, maybe 12 days straight was my limit. But a hearty “YES!” to point #6! Running warm water and flushing toilet within a few short steps is a luxury! Makes home life so much more enjoyable when I get home. Another great video!
I LOVE CAMPING!!! it does have its challenges but taking my daughter and watching her thrive without the devices makes it all well worth it. great video thank you!
You are my obsession! Every video I watch of yours completely taps in to my lifestyle. I am about to become an empty nester and I need to start taking the time to be with myself. I actually can't wait to start working on my unfocused mode. You are my new You Tube sister. Completely appreciate you for all of the self help ideas. Happy camping this 2023! Keep the videos coming!
I love camping!!! I really enjoy your videos. And you are so right about the need to slow down to appreciate creation and life's simple pleasures with your loved ones. Keep making great videos. I hope one day to get out to the west coast and experience the beautiful desert mountains you show in your videos.
Camping is amazing, and my favorite get away. I have not been in two years. I am working on finally getting a week off, and I am looking into going. it's exciting.
All very good points! Great video! I don't get out much because of my depression, but when I'm actually out there, I love it. I'm still working on my sleep system, that's the biggest hurdle for me because I usually don't sleep well anyway. I love being in a hammock. If I go back to the ground though, I'm gonna get a double wide pad. I gotta have room! Lol!
I love camping. It gives me a chance to refresh and reset my mind and soul. I love going bush to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of nature. I especially love camping in winter. (Our winters are pretty mild)
I went camping for the first time this weekend. I am hooked and prepping for my next trip already! I was underprepared because I’m new so there were a few miserable experiences. But now I know for next time :)
Just camped 6 days at Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky with a group of friends & preparation was key - we had a cold snap come thru & it dropped to 19° with snow! I love camping!
You have an amazing attitude, especially regarding the outdoors. Your channel reminds me of how much I loved tent camping when my kids were smaller and I was a scout leader and how much I miss it. I'm looking forward to getting back out there soon but due to a health issue it will be in a travel trailer. I love camping so I'm not giving up but learning to modify. Keep the posts coming.
I love camping! ❤️ Thank you! I've said this to my boyfriend and then had to explain to him the difference and how we both 'camp.' Were going camping in North Carolina this weekend for the Fall change and I think it'll show him how much being prepared makes a world of difference 😊
I love camping! I am 62 years old and I cook dried pinto beans in the Afghan pressure cooker, cornbread in camp Coleman oven. I enjoy camping and cooking home-cooked food.
I LOVE CAMPING..........Still researching how to do it though. lol. Thanks for the all the information. Heading over to look at gear and your recipe ideas. This was great.
I’d add we prefer 3 days and no moves so the time on setup is worth it. In my 60’s I’ve added more comforts and better gear and that can entail more work. When we used to do overnights it was minimalist. Also weather. I think rigid dates are a problem. when you have pre-organized with bins you can check weather and just go another day or place for us this was a key.
Just get one big foot locker put everything in it before the season starts then you can progressively add to and your ready when it's that time with the exception on food in a cooler
I LOVE CAMPING! But sometimes I succumb to the stress of getting everything set up (maybe we just need more practice). And we're always rushing to get some hike in, so no really relaxing mornings. We're planning a 5 week trip out west (and yes, to southern Utah too!) and will be camping quite a bit of the time. Each place we're staying we already have reservations and only a set amount of time to get all of the hikes in and see as much as we can. We're both in our early 60s, so at this age you realize that there's a finite amount of time left to be very active and hike. So there's this balancing act we have do to see as much as we can while hopefully taking the time to relax and be grateful. Thank you for reminding me to do that! :)
I definitely love camping! So many great points, and I couldn't agree more that we tend not to feel comfortable slowing down. I've joked for years that hiking and trail running are where I solve the world's problems. Just the meditative space I can enter is so helpful. I hope this video helps people find their way to overcoming obstacles!
I LOVE camping and can’t wait to get out there come early 2023..car and tent camping much like you two do !!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH what ALL you had to say ❤️ !!!!! YOU are such an inspiration and I thank you 😊
thank you for your video I happen to love camping and I go camping off my motorbike often in the bush and I have to be very organized and it's a lot of fun I love camping
I love camping! Awesome videos. I haven't been camping on about 12 years but am starting back up with the family. Your videos are very helpful and makes you think about the many different aspects of camping. Thank you
I love camping. I’m going on my first camping trip since college next week and I’m really looking forward to utilizing all the great information that you’ve given in your videos. Thank you for inspiring.
Thanks for sharing such good info. I really like what you said about disconnecting with our busy worlds and just relaxing and even being a little bored. We don't always need to be occupied and entertained every waking minute. I'm in my 60s and love tent camping. In fact I'll be selling my popup camper soon to return to a tent and its simplicity. A chair, a book, and a view of the lake is all I'm looking for. (Maybe a well stocked cooler as a side table as well.)
I love camping, but my girl hates bugs and thinks there's a bear or lion behind every bush (we don't even have bears here in southern NV). She likes the outdoors, and doesn't think about bugs, rodents, or predators during day hikes or picnics. It's just the vulnerability of being unconscious in an unfamiliar environment. My plan is to set up the back of the truck to be nice and comfortable, sealed from bugs with metal between us and the gang of cougars lurking outside. Sleep back there a couple times and see if she's any more comfortable.
It definitely feels more vulnerable at night, I think because of the darkness. The truck sounds like a great idea. Being in the truck and also elevated from the ground might help a lot. Nick and I used to sleep in the back of his truck when we went camping and it was so comfortable! You also could try camping during a full moon at night. The full moon is so bright that you can see so much without a headlamp.
Hey Amanda. I love camping too. Really appreciate your channel, especially the cooking ideas. I enjoy cooking and I'm not a bad cook (they say, anyway) but I'm not great at thinking up meals. That's why I love your cooking videos. Living in the UK I had never come across foil packet meals till I saw yours. Wow! Love 'em. Keep at it! You have a great bright and breezy personality.
I love camping but I’m not an on the ground sleeping kind of a gal. Unfortunately my husband, who swore up and down he was with me when I showed him the small travel trailer I wanted ended up bringing the adventures I had “dancing in my head” (a la sugar plum fairies…get it??) came to a screeching halt when we came to our first destination and he decided he wanted to stay there. What started out to be a few months because we didn’t want to try and find a place over the holidays, ended up being an almost 3 year stint. I wouldn’t have minded being in a place with no shopping and no Starbucks if it was temporary, but to put up with that day in and day out wasn’t for me. He is gone now and health problems stop me from going.
I love camping! Going for my first camping weekend in 2022 next week. So excited! (Also you're the 2nd vlogger I follow that recommended Comfort Crisis, I'm adding it to my reading list.)
I LOVE CAMPING!! Who's with me? 😉 Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoyed this one 💚

I discovered your channel just this week and I have already learned so much. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Camping is my passion. I love camping!!!
Me too Kathy! It doesn't get any better than fresh cooked meals!
I really do love camping. My daughter and I go every year now for 3 years. Great video, very good info
This really changes things for me
I love camping! You're channel is wonderful.
Just get one big foot locker put everything in it before the season starts then you can progressively add to and your ready when it's that time with the exception on food in a cooler
I love being out of my comfort zone!!
"The best thing one can do when its raining is to let it rain." -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Love that quote!
Thanks for sharing, I do love camping!
YOU are such an inspiration and I thank you 😊
thank you for your video I happen to love camping and I go camping off my motorbike often in the bush and I have to be very organized and it's a lot of fun I love camping
love to hear it!! 🙌
I love camping! Thank you.
I love camping. Nice tips. Have fun camping and stay safe.
I love camping! Awesome videos. I haven't been camping on about 12 years but am starting back up with the family. Your videos are very helpful and makes you think about the many different aspects of camping. Thank you
I LOVE CAMPING! And I need that book for my husband. LOL
I love camping. I’m going on my first camping trip since college next week and I’m really looking forward to utilizing all the great information that you’ve given in your videos. Thank you for inspiring.
Omg, exped was a game changer for me. I even bring it on other non-camping trips where we’re sharing space, too few beds, etc.
I love camping! Kinda scary going by myself the first time but fell in love quickly 🥰
Never heard of this book! Great topic. Also, thanks for the video!! I am going camping this summer YAYYYYY
I’d love one day to say I love camping and mean it!
I love camping! Great video!
I LOVE CAMPING! Wish I could do more of it!
I love camping. You speak the truth
I LOVE CAMPING!! ❤
I Love Camping! Thanks for the book recommendation!
I love camping, and I'm doing my best to raise kids who love camping too and see it as a very normal way to spend a weekend.
Camping was created just for me. 😍
I love camping! Actually, I'm a beginner and have 3 young kids... so I"m not sure if I *love* it or not yet. 😆
Love camping. Hope your channel continues to grow.
I love camping. subscribed
I love camping and all your great recipes and tips.
I love camping!
Thank you for posting this!!
I LOVE CAMPING!!! And I love your channel!
Amazing tips! Where this video was filmed? The place looks amazing! Just like a Lion King movie, simply amazing ❤
I LOVE camping!
Great video! I especially like your points on slowing down & disconnecting from all the “noise”. I love being off the grid, if just for a couple days!
P.S. I LOVE CAMPING!
Me too! Being able to disconnect while camping is one of the best parts about it.
I love camping! Going for my first camping weekend in 2022 next week. So excited! (Also you're the 2nd vlogger I follow that recommended Comfort Crisis, I'm adding it to my reading list.)
I love camping so I wasn't going to watch at first. But I enjoyed your other videos so I watched.
