A 49 Cadillac was my parents car back in the 1950’s/early 60’s. I grew up from age 6 to 16 with that car. It was a tank! Over 4,000 lbs, maybe 1/4 of that weight in chrome (LOL). As a kid, I loved to stump new friends by asking them to find the gas cap!
Derrick Rees -the 49 was perhaps the first truly "postwar " Cadillacs . It came with all the goodies and they always worked. But for some reason the 49 stands out..
Absolute stunner, must have spent a fortune on chrome alone..I didn't notice any pitting where you normally see on the Marzak fittings like the hood ornament and the instrument surround.
I RODE TO HIGH SCHOOL MY FIRST DAY IN THIS CARS COUSIN A 1949 OLD 98 YELLOW CONVERTIBLE WITH A DEEP RED LEATHER INTERIOR. THESE CARES HAD THE SAME BODY SERIES OLD 125 IN WB AND THE CADDILAC 126 IN WB. THEY WEIGHED ABOUT THE SAME OLDS AT 42OO LBS CADILLAC AT 4218 LBS .BOTH HAD THE NEW OHV V8 ENGINES AND WERE BOTH JOHN KETTERING DEIGNED ENGINES WHICH GM DENIES ,BUT JOHN KETTERING OF KETTERING ENGINE FAME DESIGNED THESE BACK BEFORE HE LEFT GM,. ZORA ARKUS DUNTOV HAD THESE ENGINES PUT IN THE OLDS AND CADILLAC FOR 1949 THE OLDS AT 303.4 CU IN AND 135HP AND CADILLACS VERSION 331 CU IN AT 160 HP. COST OLDS $2973.00 CADILLAC AT $3523.00.
Cadillac liked that tailfin so much they used practically the same design from 1948 all the way to 1956, except for the 1955 and 1956 Eldorado. After that they had to become even more flamboyant to keep up with Chrysler Corp's "Forward Look".
dlwatib Cadillac never had to keep up with anyone least of all Chrysler. Cadillac was/is the ‘standard of the world’ First with electric starter motor even the fins you mentioned were a Cadillac first.
OMG!! My very first car, other then the color, its exact, even sounds the same...I was 16, back in 1960, and my dad sold cars, took one of these in on a trade and thought it would be a good heavy car for me to start driving with. It was!!
Im on the fence about what to do with my father's 1949 Cadillac Coupe Deville series 62. Restoration then selling it is one option but might take too long. I would keep it if I could afford to restore it and convert to a convertible but people freak out when I mention doing that. It is my car and there is no point in owning something I don't enjoy and drive. The mob enforcer Johnny Stompanato bought this new in 1949 for his girlfriend Lana Turner. After he was stabbed 14 times by Lana Turner's daughter they moved the car to Idaho where Lana was born and my grandfather Elmer Keith bought it. It has been in my family since 1958 but right now it just sits out front of my house, and I'm not a mechanic.

Even if it would not be a convertible - an awesome car! And you have a great job - to do this kind of work :-)
Came across one of those in a junk yard when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I fell in love with this car at that time. I wanted to take it home.
+justjazzieful Glad you like it. Thanks for watching!

Damn, bet you wished you had kept it.
Great looking 60+ year old car :)
Pretty!!thanks for sharing this one :0)
Wonderful car! Does anybody know for how much this was sold? 🤔
Beautiful is the right word
I appreciate it has its original engine. I hate when someone drops a small block Chevy in a classic car like this.
Back when Cadillac had its real quality. Not today's heaps.
OK ! I'll take it ! ... Just send it on over, TYVM.
Que auto tan hermoso yo tuve uno igualito a este ...El mejor auto que jamas halla conducido
I love these cars
Classic Cadillac's definitely are cool. Thanks for taking a look!
Nice and electric windows in the forties I didnt think they had that then.
I wondered the same thing.
They were hydraulic, as was the top and seat. If you look at the firewall, you can see the pump and reservoir.
What's the price on this and where is it located?
What a great wedding car that would be. :)
Is this car still available? How much?
what did this one sell for?

Everyone wants a Ferrari when they win the lottery but not me
Weren't Cadillac engines GREEN back in 1949?...Not blue.
