you don't know me, Ive been listening to you since at least 7th grade. if you asked me freshmen year of highschool, I would've named you in my top 3 bands. eventually, my taste in music evolved. I finally admitted to myself I was an atheist, I never really was a Christian at all, which was hard to admit when my family was only becoming more and more catholic. I came out of that with the realization of how much Christianity was normalized to me, in my media, namely, music. I came to the conclusion that so many of my favorite bands, namely, you guys, were very Christian in their messaging. I think I was embarrassed, and I stopped touching your music altogether, and the more I discovered about my queerness, cemented that decision. I think I finally listened again for the first time as a junior, and I cried all through entropy. now as a freshman in college this time, I found myself compelled to come back out of the stress of finals. with fresh ears, I payed attention more to the lyrics, realizing that sometimes they didn't seem Christian at all. "looking for a God as if _she_ was a giant riddle" and in Carolina coast, "I hope that is how I will remember him". and also, seeing your piercings in this, alerted my dar that something was up. so, I finally googled if you were actually a Christian band or just a band with Christian themes, and I found your article in Atwood magazine. I related to it, painfully. this genre of music will always feel like "home" to me. and somehow I exited a homophobic Cristian and reentered a queer skeptic, only to find it had done the same.
