I learned "Hard Luck Blues" (Brother Jim Got Shot) from two recordings of Dock Boggs, one made in the 1920s, the other in the 1960s. My insturment is an 1888 Thompson & Odell "The Luscomb" banjo tuned eBEG♯B (relative gCGBD).

Have you ever heard a song called "go dig my grave" I was in West virgina looking at some land this weekend just south west of Sutton and met an old timer (early 80s is my guess) and he played for about an hour. Good cider too. One of the nicest weekends I have ever had

Thank you for tje effort of producing these fine videos. I played bluegrass banjo for decades but discovered your old timey style. Now I, instead of crowded Scruggs style, I sit in the mountains of Idaho fishing and playing this style. Bravo Zulu Clifton.

I gotta learn that up-picking style. It works really well for a lot of Boggs songs I feel like.

It's ridiculously hard for me to find a good second-hand or vintage banjo where I live (France) and I don't know which banjo I should get if I should buy one brand new, considering putting some nylon/nylgut strings on.

I think you had mentioned book(s) in the past with lyrics from old traditional folk songs but I can’t find the video- do you have a recommendation ?

I love this damn song. I do wonder how it goes from a murder to a funny story bout his wife swallowing a cat hah

I was wondering that too and then I was wondering if the first verse was maybe more sinister than I thought

Great video! You might already know the song Roll Down the Line by Dave Macon, but I think you’d do a great cover of it. Keep up the good work!

Clifton, I'm a huge, huge fan and want to respectfully ask wouldn't it be eAEG♯B (relative gCGBD) ~ 3 half steps down for each?
