@@harvdog5669 it’s in the description
It’s a lot like Ben dewberry’s final run
@@josephmccarthy5114 no its not
I don’t typically like country or anything similar but I love the sound of a banjo a lot
I’ve been listening to and playing blues and rock nearly all my life. I’ll turn 40 this year. Always thought of banjo as a bluegrass instrument and I don’t care for bluegrass though I appreciate the skill involved. Bluegrass is to country/folk what metal is to rock. Lots of shredding. Not much soul. But THIS has SOUL! I will never speak ill of the banjo again. Love your music! Subbed!
Hey Mr Hicks,
I cant believe how people can form opinions about real history without studying....
I think your doing just fine..
😊😊

If I close my eyes, I could believe that I was living 150 years ago. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Everything you ever wanted to know about old time banjo styles in less than 30 minutes...Outstanding job Brother Clifton...Uncle Dave would be proud!
Clifton Hicks is the man
Phenomenal! The passion for the heritage reminds me of Pete Seeger. It’s not just music, it’s history. Thank you for helping to keep my favorite music alive.
Thanks for your service in the Army Clifton. Great music.
When I was a boy I recall Jerry Lee on Sun rolling out his take on “Deep Ellum Blues”, which included the wonderful, borrowed line: “ Now when you go down in Deep Ellum, put yo’ money in your shoes, cuz the women in Deep Ellum got those, Deep Ellum blues!!! I’ve been stacking long green in my boots ever since. Proper advice. My bub just introduced this channel to me. Solid biz. Best of luck
Dunno how i found this video, but my baby is tripping out in love as we watch.... i could never come close to your picking, but i guitar bluegrass in my garage, girl i got heard it in the womb for at least 8 months. I'm singing along and muh baby kiddo is amazed..... wonder how small they make banjos...dude, thanks man you play raw and awesome, I just want to say thanks.
I love those of time songs
The singing. Perfect.
Your playing reminds me of so many of the banjo greats a lot of the newer oldtime musicians. seem to try to hard but for you it just comes natural this is the sound I look for when listening to oldtime music your defiently the real deal Clifton thanks for keeping real oldtime music alive
Thanks. I learned most of my music from George Gibson of Knott County, Kentucky.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo I just looked up George Gibson and his playing blew me away
Your music is awsome brother i hear your music sence i lived in miami i live in Kentucky now
Black bottom blues seems to be a variant off the same tree as our Deep Ellum blues in Texas, with just about the same lyrics and a similar tune
Mr. Clifton Hicks, I have been listening to your music for a while now, most (shallow) people I know will not even entertain the music I am trying to share with them. I love it, my voice is quite like yours only I play the drums, not near as intricate a talent as the banjo I will concede, but I thought you should know my family and I support you through and through. I saw all the vids about you going through the military and I agreed with your thoughts on the reason you requested discharge from said assignment. Keep up the good fight, we're behind you!!!! Sent from - Birmingham, AL.
Makes me proud to be a South Carolinian from the upstate.
I'm just learning banjo - thanks, I appreciate watching your style.
Keep it up Annie!
Reminds me of the hills. I miss my home in Appalachia, thanks for bringing me back some.
I feel blessed to have been able to hang with ya in tally and hear you strum that thing on those hot whiskey nights. You gave enough wisdom to this tadpole to fill a book. Merry Christmas Cliff!
Here you are, sir. Hope all's well! ruclips.net/video/tm003RqMIxY/видео.html
If I want to buy some songs, where should I get them where you'll actually get the money? $$$?
Thanks, I think you're my favorite artist who ain't dead.

@@CliftonHicksbanjo I gave you around 85 plays on spotify yesterday. I waited until it started playing a suggested song then I'd switch between OLS and your CH channel. It worked flawlessly
Your music means only slightly less than the world to me. Thanks, friend. Now I just gotta get back to practicing...

Nice rendering of Black Bottom Blues.
Thanks very much Clifton. Really liked that short instrumental (4th song), never heard that style before. I saw your story on the Veterans video and just wanted to say I'm glad you made it through all that. You are an American treasure.
It's called Coke Oven March.
One of my favourite simple little tunes to play

Amazing stuff here Clifton. Watched it all and enjoyed it very much.
Jubilee! Found it!
If you been wondering why your views have gone up, probably just me. You are doing fantastic work. You have soul, and its important that the history of music stays in tact for everyone who is interested to study. Keep it up, its important
Actually, i mean to say the history of american music. We ended up here, why? So many of us want to know.
I,m waiting on a W.T. B. Tonk Bros. "Sterling" built about 1890 38 lug. Very similar to yours. It,s coming from Germany so I,m guessing it it hasn't cleared customs yet. It's set up with Nylgut strings. I've earmarked this site for inspiration and tutoring. Thank's ! Tom in Arizona
Also, I can't stop singing 'Jubilee' , though I know it's old to you and it sounds as if you learnt it from an ole timer, it sounds legitimate from you and I can't get enough, 'Darling Cora' too, who writ them? Iffin', u don't mind my ask in'. Birmingham, AL.
QUALITY.........
dig the hat dude

Awesome stuff Clifton...thanks man, have you got anything on disc ?
What was the song at 11:57?
Do you think you could do a Hank Williams cover on the banjo?
I'd like to put this on my iPod, great stuff, I love 'drunkards lone child' any plans to tour the UK? I recon you'd go down a storm
👍🏽👍🏽
is that a Dock Boggs song that starts at 7.27, if so do you have tabs for it, i just started to learn the banjo and thats what i want to play
The difference between American fiddle tunes and the celtic, is that many if the Irish / Scottish tunes is that many of the celtic tunes are so old that no one remembers the words. Also you have to consider that in the bible belt dancing was basically forbidden, so dance music served a much different purpose than in the New England states.
Mr. Hicks can you do jay Goulds daughter by itself? I love this 8 song set but it's a pain to find this deep video when I have a hankering for that exact tune.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Wonderful old time treasures. Thanks! How can i get music / lyrics? Want to adapt to mandolin and dulcimer maybe autoharp. Cant afford banjo. Karl
Thank you for being old-time in this futuristic dypstopia we seem to dwell in.
If you offer albums, are they on disc? Where can we snag them up? (Are you CopperhillTrade on Etsy?)
Best wishes! Been a longtime listener, and really like the way you live your music.
+Kegan Mahon Hey Kegan. Thanks a lot. Much appreciated. Yes I work with CopperhillTrade, if you can support them please do. www.etsy.com/shop/copperhilltrade where I have two albums and they are quick to send out. OR you can get direct digital downloads at www.cliftonhicks.bandcamp.com. Thanks again.
Is that an old metal pot? It sounds great.
NM, gotcha on bandcamp.
Mick, thanks for the kind words and the interest. Bandcamp works, and you can find other stuff at reverbnation.com/cliftonhicks
What's the name of the song at 8:00? I want to learn this one, I have been working on my two finger a lot lately and this one sounds so good. Thanks Clifton!
What tuning is that last song- Lonesome Road Blues- in? I really like your take on it.
Its gDGBD
thats some really good pickin! what kind of strings do you have on it? they sound way different than my polywebs, i like it
probably just the cheapest nylons I could find.
I'm not sure if this reply really took a year like the timestamps suggest but this exchange is weird enough for me to believe anything
black bottom = Deep Elm blues - very similar tunes
Anyone ever tell you you kinda sound like Hank III sometimes?
We are in north eastern Kansas. What would it take for you to come play for a night up here for a family gathering.
what is the little tune called at about 11:50 ?
