I never have shot competition, but I carried a Ghost III holster on duty 8 to 16 hours a day for well over 10 years as a Texas cop until I retired. I have that model for my 1911, my EAA Witness 10mm, and my Beretta 92S. I have carried each on duty and they are the finest holsters I ever carried. I banged them on everything I walked by, getting in and out of the patrol car, while in foot pursuit, wrestling with a suspect on the ground, and a multitude of other places and times. I always knew that my weapon was safe, and protected, and that drawing it would be lightning fast no matter what I did to it. Again, I have no experience with the competition model, but this company has been producing high quality SERIOUS business police duty holsters for at least 20 years.

So - for the uninitiated - may I beg upon you to explain the purpose of that scoring overlay card you have between yourself and the pistol at 3:52 (or thereabouts). you have my curiosity piqued. I’ll have to look through your videos list in hopes of finding an introduction to a sport shooting Kinda presentation. You make a great ambassador for the sport and I have so many questions - I’ll have to assume I’m not the first to peruse your channels offerings in hopes of finding a wee bit of guidance on how to get started in the sport…. ..or be talked out of it 😂. round nose projectiles don't leave true bullet hole diameter holes in targets - the overlay gets closer for questionable shots - or if you have two holes stacked on each other can help determine if it's one or two bullet holes (this does happen but is rare). I have those videos - this is specifically for USPSA - but it's similar for IDPA - ruclips.net/video/0ZcrJfJaS_k/видео.html I'd recommend IDPA with basic gear as a way to get started and safe then maybe check out USPSA - or start with Steel challenge then dive in with the other two even.

I recently bought a DA Max and Ghost Hydra P+ for my other gamer gun. The Max holster is nice but I had to apply so much torque and pressure to tighten the torx bolt that secures the angle, can't and camber that I kept moving the gun and holster out of position. I got frustrated and am returning the DA Max. I also found that the adjustment of the roller ball on the DA Max trigger guard was all or nothing. Either the gun was super tight or the adjustment needed to be virtually wide open/ no friction. The Ghost Hydra P+ is easier to use. I'm pretty new to all this so form your own conclusions. I even called Double Alpha and they sent another pivot joint but it also need a ton of torque to tighten the Holster in position. Even when I got it crazy tight, I could almost move the Holster out of position.
I ordered the Hydra P+ Rig from Ghost USA almost 2 weeks ago and order is still processing. I'm new to ordering competition holsters, pouches belts etc. is this normal for competition equipment Ghost, DD Alpha gear etc? Don't see lead times like you do from ordering a ccw holster. Appreciate any response from those who are already in competitive shooting. Thanks
I want to expand and get into uspsa and this looks like something I'd eventually want, though for carry optics they don't make it for the pistol I planned on running. Curious by the way it locks up if I could get something kinda like it and have it still work. Been following a few years now and love your videos. Watched many a few times. Damn. Wish there were a way to make it light compatible. I'm gonna keep using my Safariland with a Nubmod until I settle on a CO setup. Until then, issued gear is good enough for my mediocre ass.
Does this holster have adjustable retention? Like, not when it's locked, but can you adjust how much force is necessary to draw the pistol while the holster is unlocked?
Great video, how do you think it will work on the lynx belt? It looks it may work with an extended take down lever for a P320 like align tactical? True or false?
The clip should work - yes - but - some body types have issue with how far it places it from your body. I don’t have legality issues but some females do. The regular P attachment to the belt is better for some
if you don't want to come up the learning curve of the a locking holster - Max for sure. I personally like locking holsters so I tend to favor ones that lock. Performance wise - they're very similar.

The DAA hanger is superior - to everything else but the shock bottle ball joint one or the Henning T1000. Yes you unlock the holster at make ready - you don’t start with it locked - even if you did it’s very natural to sweep off on the draw
For a shadow 2 OR would you get this or the thunder? Or which ghost in general? The hydra p shouldn’t scratch the gun much as it doesn’t have the ledra inside? but looks like it barely grips the pistol anyway. Would you get the P or the P+ for ipsc shooting

Lynx is in a weird spot - I put on a touch of weight so I am in between links to the point where the pants I wear make it tough for the buckle to close
I totally understand. I have a love hate relationship with it. Apparently my waist size changes daily by small amounts and it’s noticed when I put it on. And it’s really finicky at the holster connection and some days wobbles like crazy.
Hey have you run into any issues with the locking lever coming loose and breaking? Mine broke mid match and I get sent home and now can't find ANY replacement springs or the little ball bearing or get in touch with them

What makes this a "race holster" over a Safariland ALS or GLS holster? Isn't it the same thing aside from the position of the unlock? I've never used a race holster, but I thought the point was to not have to clear the muzzle from the holster. So when you have material that the muzzle has to clear, aren't you basically just using any other retention holster that features a single button unlock? Or are you unlocking it before the RO says "standby"?

Wouldn't it be nice if USPSA actually adhered to IPSC rules so that all divisions could use race holsters? CO has gotten so far out of wack from Production w/ a Dot that it's turned into an arms race.
Anybody running a Rival-s with this rig? I just got mine today and it's way to tight. The slide comes outa battery just to get the gun to seat in all the way. Getting it out is next to to impossible. So bummed, next match is August 12th and I really wanted to use this rig. Anybody else have a similar experience? I've reached out to Ghost and hopefully will hear back soon.
Their hangers are bad. I have just purchased another Ghost holster on a similar hanger although attachment plate to the belt is slightly different. That hanger got bent by me simply tightening the screws. The issue is not whether the gun is secure but if the hanger can withstand any impacts, like hitting ground in prone or just getting caught on something. My holster is with a third party hanger maker right now, trying to figure out how to mount it on something more solid. There are a couple of other issues. Of note, I submitted a review on Ghost's website over a week ago and it is not there. Sorry for a contrarian opinion on your channel but but I wouldn't recommend their stuff until they reinforced those hangers.
Nice review. Since my P80 (G17) has no safety, I'm also looking for an owb LOCKING holster recommendation that also is uber safe to prevent holstering ADs. Add to that a light and dot and I feel like I'm looking for a unicorn. Anyone with a pointer very welcome!
Disappointed in this holster as mine arrived last week. To engage the lock, you have to depress lever for it to rotate. Very difficult to do one handed, at least for me and my hands. Sticking with the GX products holster for now (still a big gap in holster design)

I know, Ryan from Big Dog Steel and he’ll be sending you his design. I much prefer it over anything else. He’s making one for my CZ shadow. Agree that there’s no difference in race holsters and bucket style holsters with performance, but an easy lock and unlock AND no drag from the draw just makes for consistency, speed is not achieved from holster design. Speed will come after consistency is achieved.
how I do it with one hand - press in on the face of the button with my thumb, use my forefinger to press down on the lever to lock it. Sometimes I have to recruit the left hand if the mechanism gets dirty or I'm just not taking the time to apply pressure straight in on the button. I had forgotten about Ryan - last we spoke that was a while - 2-3 months ago at a minimum.
Hmmm most closed holsters have retention screws which you can tighten. If a gun falls off it's because someone is keeping them too loose. I can jump up and down and my gun doesnt fall off.

I doubt the competition holster outfits are going to do PDP holsters as it's not used in many competitions.

Depends on the one - I have a couple now - you can wrench on the set screw on the knob and tighten it up

my only two issues with this holster is the "c" position and how loose your gun is even when its in the locking position.

Personally - I like the Hydra better. Thunder works as well - the hydra hanger some people had it fail - new ones come with a redesigned hanger - FYI

No it hasn’t - I use something else for open - but I know some high burn dudes with no issue

The Hanger on the new model P is as stiff as the BOSS now... for anyone contemplating them still. Pretty slick holster for a G34.

The safariland als doesn't work with optics, the gls solves this easy enough

Stick with it - the lever rotation isn’t difficult to do. Tons of open shooters do it.

I prefer a trigger guard lock to a muzzle lock. The mechanism is superior.
