Fantastic! In my version, 6.1.4.2, there is no Toolbar Layout but I found the command for the Notebook bar under User Interface -->Groupedbar. It worked the same. Thought it might help someone else. Thank you so much for the video.
Also, I was used to using the Format Painter using the keyboard. I was able to set up the same "copy format" shortcut for the "Clone" command in LibreOffice. Now if I could just get a "selection bar" (in the left margin like Word)...

In case anyone is scanning documents directly into Libre Office....
I was watching this video while using Libre Write although I have my paid version of Office 365 because while trying to insert scans directly into the Document, I could not find a direct way of doing it in Word and Microsoft help tells you to scan and save documents and then insert pictures, which is fine when you are scanning a page or two, but when you have to do a lot, it takes a lot longer and creates a lot of unnecessary extra scanned files. In LO Write you can use [Insert|Media|Scan|Select Source] and it will scan directly into your document. But when you activate the experimental features and tabbed icons, that option goes away from the toolbar... The good news is you can still Use it.
In Libre Office 7 (the version I'm using), when you select the [Insert] Tab, in the far right of the toll bar there is a drop-down menu that repeats the word [Insert], from the drop down choose [Select Source] and it will let you select your scanner (I only have one) to again send scans directly into your document.

Free (as in beer) does not automatically make something more compelling. I say that because many of the comments I read are about how great LibreOffice is because it doesn't cost them any money. I don't mind paying a developer for exceptional software. I use MS Office all day long at work, so when I come home and need to balance by checkbook in a spreadsheet program, LibreCalc is just not as capable as Excel and, for $7.99 a month, I find MS Office to be a value. If you want free, there is Microsoft 365 online. The open-source nature of LibreOffice is to be applauded, so is the fact that it offers a capable alternative to the proprietary mainstay. But the vilification that MS Office seems to attract in the comments of every LibreOffice review is just nonsense. Choice is good... whether it be a paid, proprietary one or not.

You mean you installed a virtual machine, then installed MS Windows to it and then installed MS Office? I have done most of that, too, but now need a free version of MS Office (not just the free online version that lacks Access).
I would like to note, though - that some free versions of Windows 10 seem better than others. Two years ago I installed one on linux in a VM and it was almost as fast as using Windows on bare metal, but I deleted it to make more space. Then I installed another since I need to re-learn it for a pay raise at work. This new free version of Windows 10 is far slower and I am not sure if it is Virtual Box or the Windows version at fault. SO if you get it working right and fast, never delete it and think it will work as well if you reinstall it in a year or two. Nothing is guaranteed.

Give it a try, people! or otherwise, legitimately pay for MS office. But please, don't hate on FOS software while not being willing to pay for private lincesed sofware :). It takes a lot of work from a lot of generous people to run libreoffice that good with the huge power it has underneath. Cheers!

I use Excel a lot at work, and I'm so happy that LibreOffice Calc (which I use at home) is very different from that! So many crazy bugs and shortcomings in Excel. Yes, LibreOffice has bugs too, but I haven't seen that crazy ones yet.
Recently I actually installed LibreOffice on my job computer too, just to get some peace in my heart, but I'm not sure I was allowed to do that. Don't tell anyone… :P Funny though, that my LibreOffice installation at work (in Windows 10) doesn't seem to work as well as the LibreOffice installation on my home desktop computer (in Manjaro Linux).
And those ”ribbons” in Excel in which I never find anything I'm looking for, except for those things I use all the time. I have to google everything all the time (or use the built in search thing, which on the other hand isn't a bad idea). Very time consuming.

Whenever I am forced to use an older (non-ribbon, or even prior ribbon) version of Office, I long for the current version. If you don't know where anything is, you just have to type the command in the search bar and you will quickly find it. I've been using MS Office since Windows 3.1 and it only continues to improve.

I was able to do it. I can't remember exactly how, but if I remember correctly, you must download what they downloaded in the video, go to:
      1) LibreOffice > Preferences > Advanced > Enable experimental features (may be unstable) > Click on Apply
      2) Then again, LibreOffice > Preferences > View > Icon style > Office2013 > Click on Apply (this generates the MS2013 theme)
      3) If you want the toolbar to be spread out like Microsoft, go to View > User Interface > Tabbed.
      Normally, that should do it.

Good thought, and a great solution. Though Ice SSB requires you be online at all times (it's a web browser, really), which could be less than ideal for a word processor. Changing the icon set and color of background and theme was all it took to sharpen it up enough so I didn't feel like I was using something that was a compromise. I am very pleased with the LibreOffice service. I do not see any difference between MS window and LibreOffice. MS has made billions of Dollars from people and still is greedy to milk us. To purchase office from MS cost a couple hundred dollars. The funny part is that it last for only a couple years and have to pay another couple hundred dollars to renew it. This greedy behavior of MS is nothing short of taking advantage of public and rob them. I intent to donate some good amount of money to LibreOffice to appreciation their service. I strongly believe that everybody who uses the LibreOffice service should not take advantage of the initial free service but should have a good conscious to donate, and to support them.

@@wordart_guian Yh LibreOffice looks severely outdated. For those of us on linux there are also WPS and SoftMaker FreeOffice which are just as good free alternatives. However Libre is the best opensource suite. Just needs a UI update to get things modernised.

    • @wordart_guian
      @wordart_guian 5 лет назад

@@rtsa4633 I'd say that LibreOffice needs to exist. We do need an entry-level free office suite, for all the people who can't afford more and don't rely too much on some Advanced features. And (while I'm not very knowledgeable about it) I guess it being open source brings Something interesting on the table.
However the OSS fanboys claiming there's no difference between MSO and LO are plain wrong. Typically they are the same people saying office was basically complete in 1995. Most people may use 5% of office, but nobody uses the same 5%. Office has Evolved a ton in the last 25 (!) years. As a genZ kid, there are features I take for absolutely granted that were Added in 2003 or 2007, or even after!
I mean, I don't ever run excel without using the 2007+ tables and conditional formating, because they help me vizualize and organize data (there isn't anything in excel that I use more than these actually) ; but I don't think these two features were ever Added to LO.
So I totally agree that LO plays an important role, but Office honestly can't be dismissed.

@@wordart_guian Those other proprietary alternatives offer the same features for linux and arent lacking in the same way libre is. They look interesting.
Libre is getting better however recently with their new updates. I can see it having every basic feature it should already have in the next few years. I will be happy one we have a complete feature rich open source alternative.
      I also have a 2007 office disk :)

@@rtsa4633 Does WPS stand for WordPress Something? If so, it should be qualitative, as an historical high-end competitor to Word, but I doubt WordPress would be free. I guess Softmaker free office is, though.

LibreOffice 6.4.4.2 has spell-checker built-in, no need to download.

Personally I think this makes libreoffice look ugly. I like the look of libreoffice's layout

agree, I think, LibreOffice developers should polish the icons and tweaks in their own way. It looks kinda old and doesn't catch up with the DE.

'Leebray' = Spanish, 'Leebruh' = French. Both are correct. We tend to use the Spanish pronunciation. Funny, since we're Canadian :)

bs. Many people use free software for video editing and do just fine with it. Same for writing books or editing photos.

the New World Order's new plan is to have us all lease/rent and not own. Leasing makes far more profit for the company and also gives the company more control over how that product can be used - or is likely to be used lest you pay a huge sum when you try to turn in the product or upgrade. Microsoft is one of the leading members of the NWO.
