  • Probably the most famous tuna auction, the Tsukiji Market tuna auction attracts visitors from all over the world to catch a glimpse of it.
Tsukiji Market (築地市場, Tsukiji Shijō) is a large wholesale market for fish, fruits and vegetables in central Tokyo. It is expected to move to a new site in Toyosu by spring 2016.
When the auction commences, the action is fast and furious. Yet we don't hear shouting or the screaming at the top of the lungs. Instead, the bidding is done using signature hand signals.
If you want to catch this iconic Tokyo experience, be sure to get there ideally by 3am. Latest 3.30am (cutting it close though). Grab a taxi from your hotel as the train system will be closed during that time. Alternatively, book a hotel close by and walk to the market. I stayed at Ginza.
Don't forget to make time for sushi breakfast after the tour!

Probably one of the best experiences I had in my life. If you're in Tokyo you should definitely go and see it. The Tuna Auction is a must for a full experience. Check out the video I manage to shoot while I was there: ruclips.net/video/9FDAd1WuOHQ/видео.html

you're right...only 100/120 tourists can get in and attend the auction...you have to queue outside quite early in the morning...in fact we didn't sleep and the started queueing from 1am in the morning...totally worth it

My recommendation - Latest time to arrive would be 3am. That would secure you a place at least in the second batch of 60.
