If you ask adults to put in some labor for their living costs, like in prison for example, that's "slavery" according to liberals. On the other hand parents can send their minor children to work out in the fields (pulling their kids out of school early each Spring to do it) or for minimum wage in some other job, and take their whole ass paycheck. It's considered "earning your keep". So that's okay, but asking adults to do the same makes them a "slave". Make that make sense.
I have also smoked meth.. and that was my choice it wasn't a disease. And I certainly never blamed it on that it was my choice and it was also my choice to stop😮
If they keep pushing the narrative that it's a "disease" they can keep burdening the healthcare system and rob the rest of us to support theses people. Anyone with a brain understands what you're saying. It's propaganda to funnel more money into the pockets of professional enablers who get wealthy by not actually fixing anything. It's more profitable to treat the "disease" rather than cure it. Anyone with common sense can see right through that sh*t.

Oh wait we give out all of the goodies here so they all come here which is the other problem .If they are from elsewhere they need to be put back on a bud back out . And also stop the homeless industry the government has turned it into a cash cow and don't want to solve the problem or the cash cow goes away.

My opinion: This scenario is the equivalent of an institution. I think it is the best alternative to being literally on the street. Bur the location must be further than strolling distance from homes and businesses. Law must be enforced. It must be run as a charity.
When you enable, you disable. There is no dignity in the approach and mental health and addiction needs to have limitations before society/taxpayers should have legal oversight with expectations.
Do the city and county and non profits get federal funding for the homeless? Are the homeless being discriminated against and being denied equal protection and application of the law?
I understand wanting to help but enabling and rewarding this lifestyle is part of the reason the PNW is a third world shat hole. Imagine what could be built to house, help, and rehabilitate these people with just a tiny fraction of what is sent to Ukraine.
Some house less people could have place to stay but they would rather live with there animals outside in filth because shelters won’t allow them to have animals. Kinda hard to have empathy.
Yes mam u r enabling them. If u were REALLY COMPASSIONATE.you would tell them to get off drugs. To be a useful member of society. To be gainfully employed. To renounce a life of crime, addiction, slothfulness, indolence, and selfishness.

Ask yourself this: “Does your behavior allow people to continue their addictive ways instead of seeking treatment?” If the answer is yes, then you are enabling - regardless of your motives.
I'm assuming you voted Trump and hate social services for a dumb opinion like this.
I am a recovering addict and you are absolutely right 👍
Thats funny because Republicans always vote down money for treatment centers 😂😂

How about they don't get a free meal unless they collect a bag of trash. Provide them trashbags, they can pick up trash in their camp and once their camp is clean they can pick up trash at the beach. No handouts without something in return.
Set up an outdoor style kitchen and assign “hire” these people to help run it. Give them responsibility and self worth by helping each other. Acknowledgment and self worth is very healing. Helps heal the heart, soul, self worth.

Everyone in these comments suggesting that feeding the homeless keeps them addicted and keeps them homeless are so far renoved from reality. You guys dont know shit. 🤦♂️ i was a homeless herion addict for YEARS. Small thinga like a meal or a place to showr/wash clothes never KEPT me homeless and addicted. It helped me in the worst time of my life. I never refused treatment because "well they feed me 1x a day and give me a hug" so i might as well stay homeless. 🤦♂️🤦♂️ ive you've never personally lived it, your opinion means jack shit. Id rather them being fed than having to go steal from a store. Id rather them have some where they can setup a tent than trespassing or ending up in dangerous areas they arnt supposed to be. Yall see nothing but negative. I lived that life and i know 1st hand what helps. A hot meal can make someones day so much better. Its not "enabling". Its decent human courtesy.

But to punish all because of bad actors is not right. Example based on facts. Oregon keeps X amount of every payout like a tax to go to emergency and other needs. So 3 stores (Major) the managers where stealing food stamps from people and getting extra from the government for accepting FS. They were audit warned investigated for over 3 years. They finally took the acceptance of FS from them. Happened again, then again... Finally they charged the mangers and a few others. All was weeks to none in jail. Some transfers and firings, daily over seeing the use of FB by store. Penalties of large amounts if problem came up again.
We need to lower rent prices in this state it is unavoidable. Every one of these folks situation is a policy failure. In the richest country on earth, we should have no houseless folks.
Most of them failed on their own. Kinda hard to keep up a house on heroin and stolen bikes.
Nope
@@MUUKOW3 With complete sincerity.. I'm asking, when the minimum wage is so low and rent is so high, along with most Americans living paycheck to paycheck. How can we blame this on stolen bikes and heroin? Not all homeless folks are on drugs and some come to that situation specifically due to the situation they find themselves in (they got hooked on drugs after becoming homeless)
@erikw2460 Let's see, first of all the minimum wage is what now 15 ,that is a starter wage ,you and a couple buddies can get a place until you build your skills and get better pay . Our daughter literally lives in Portland making just above that ,rents an apartment with a roommate in there 20's doing fine no government subsidies . So your pay and rent is busted granted it is expensive here but it can be done. Living paycheck to paycheck can make one pucker but none of these turn you into a tent druggie ,there are a lot of you people that choose the lifestyle. I don't see near as many old guy hobo types . It's the young druggie or mentally ill . The mentally ill shouldn't be allowed to free range and street lifestyle shouldn't be tolerated. If housing here is too expensive go where it is less expensive. Oh wait we give out all of the goodies here so they all come here which is the other problem .If they are from elsewhere they need to be put back on a bud back out . And also stop the homeless industry the government has turned it into a cash cow and don't want to solve the problem or the cash cow goes away.
@erikw2460 it can be done. We are building our 3rd property in Washington and 6 years ago i was borderline homeless. But you people won't like what I have to say because you are soft and have made these homeless people soft.
