  • In this video I will show you how to enable the excitation pulse (if having it available). The flip angle pulse we usually can change is the refocussing pulse, not excitation. I was surprised the excitation pulse can be controlled at all. Let’s do some test to see how it works.

The purpose of this feature is for further from isocentre imaging, where you can get an inhomogeneous image contrast. In these cases I would recommend reducing the excitation flip angle approximately 20% and it can help improve image contrast to be more consistent across the whole image.

Glad to see this topic. On brain MRIs at 3T, gray/white contrast is suboptimal on T1 weighted images. There is a study showing 50 degree excitation flip angle is better. T1 FLAIR is an alternative, but may not be ideal in every scenario

Thanks for sharing. Will test this out. Unfortunately we do mostly t1w as 3D at our hospital.

I have had complaints from rads that T1W 3T pre and post con images for the brain don't have a lot of gray/white matter differentiation as you say,and have never quite found a way around it. I did find in some instances, increasing the bandwidth did help on the GE scanner. I'm not sure if I was onto something or my eyes were playing tricks as it wasn't an official study. 😂

So greatfull for all the knowledge you share with us. Can You please make a video about breast mri, how you do it and how you choose the pitch for some sequecens. Thank you și much.

Is there specific flip ankle for each part.

Can we use in sms sequence since it is very easy to over the limit of SARS in 3T MRI. Decrease the flip angle may help to decrease the chance of over the limit?

      Good question. Haven't tried that.

I am now working on this new XA platform and have some struggles with it. Would you be able to do a video on some of the features? The MPR and 3d cutouts for arterial/venous studies is maddening!! Also, after starting a patients exam, is there any way to change the orientation? I did a pelvis last week upside down because I could not figure out how to reorient!!

Have you tried using “help” and search for key words ?
I am using Phillips scanner , for us we can change the orientation with the icon next to the exam card name.

If you've already started the scan, your best bet is to close the patient, go to the browser (where you would normally view previous patient images), right click the patient and press "Resume Examination", then you can change orientation. There is a way to change orientation if you haven't acquired any images yet but it's hard to explain without sitting in front of a scanner and I'm at home currently! Hope this helps anyway, there were lots of oddities with this new platform that took some getting used to when we first got it in 2019.

yes the xa platform is different from what we are used to earlier. As mention best is to just do a LOCALIZER. Close the patient. Go to browser, right click and you see at the bottom resume exam. Here is the moment you see you can change orientation.
Mpr and post processing is also different from previous versions. I can make a video of showing a few examples ☺️

      @@Nguyen_MRI
No need to do localizer , just close the case, go to work list and make scanned case to be show ,it will appear again ,then select and change the orientation and start

@@sharifelsawy2354 yeah true. Often a localizer is carried out before you notice something is wrong. But yeah no need if knowing beforehand 👍
