When I was a very young schoolboy attending Belmont School I was used to stealing the sweetest apply in a nearby orchard, The tallest boy in our school who was 6ft 2.5 inches tall would put me on his shoulders and get me up to the lowest branches of the apple trees and I would do the rest. In those days we wore short corduroy trousers with lining, I would make a hole in the pockets of my trousers and fill the apples in to my pockets, after a short time all the apples would fill all around my legs held in place by the lining. I needed a good strong belt to help hold my trousers in place, When I got back down from the tree I would not be able to walk so my tall friend would carry on his shoulders, and off we would run to safety then share out those apples with all the gang from my class.

@@MikeyJMJ Yes also beautiful large cooking apples, we would put those applies into cocks of hay and after a few weeks the honey smell of the apples would knock you over, some times we did not get time to retrieve our stored cooking apples before the farms would remove them from the fields into their yards
It's rare that a 6'6" man like me gets looked down on, but I find it fascinating that these guys never mentioned basketball or any leverage based sport with our advantages

It has always baffled my mind as to why the irish who have historically have had a very low standard of living as compared to let's say England or America yet have outpaced them in terms of height. In school we were told that low standard of living = shorter stunted heights. The irish seemed to prove otherwise!!! Enlighten me anyone please!!!
I don’t think that it is any way true that the Irish are taller than other Northern European races Some individuals are extraordinarily tall by virtue of disease I.e growth hormone excess,Marfan’s syndrome etc
The Celts were taller than the other peoples near to them in Europe, and their descendants presumably inherited this genetic trait. Julius Caesar remarked on the height of the Britons, and I believe there is archaeological evidence of tall Celtic people from remains, although don't quote me on that last part, I am remembering stuff I read from years ago. The Gauls and Britons towered over the Romans. Nutrient intake has something to do with physical robustness, but genetics have a large part to play as well.
I'm 6ft1 and a half with runners on and people stare at me passing by or when I walk into a pub am I stand out tall like I know not that tall but pisses me of when people stare at me cos I'm taller than them by a few inches

I look a bit ropey cos I dress In tracksuits but I often see men much taller then me 6ft4 5 I worked with a man 6ft7 so what do people do then pull out there phone and start recording videos maybe it's because they think I'm ropey because I don't think it's cos of my height or maybe it is
