    ▽ Applying for college scholarships to pay for your education doesn’t have to be a daunting task. In this video, I give you my top five tips to get college scholarships. These steps helped me win over $50,000 in scholarship money and graduate debt free! This video is for upcoming high school graduates AND current college students to help them get free money for college.
    These steps hopefully will help you reduce or eliminate taking out student loans.
    1.) Attend community college- Going to community college will greatly reduce your financial costs for college. The majority of community colleges offer tons of scholarships and grants for their students. Attending community college significantly helped me get my full-ride scholarship to the University of Maryland because I was able to take on leadership positions while participating in extracurricular activities.
    2.) Write a winning scholarship essay- The scholarship essay is your best opportunity to show the scholarship committee why you are deserving to receive the scholarship. The scholarship judges want to hear what you are passionate about and what you hope to do in the future. You can be creative, funny or insightful. Make sure someone proofreads it before submitting.
    3.) Join honor societies and take honors/advanced placement courses- Scholarship judges want to see that you pushed yourself academically in high school and college. You don’t need straight-A’s to get scholarships but you do need to take a few high-level classes. In addition to AP and honors classes, join a few honor societies that your school participates in.
    4.) Get great recommendation letters- Most competitive scholarships require you to submit one or two recommendation letters. Ask teachers and counselors who you developed a close relationship with to write your recommendation letter. The letter should add something new that your resume and transcript does not tell. A good recommendation letter speaks to your academic and social maturity, character and personality.
    5.) Apply for small scholarships- Scholarships that are only $500-2,000 are still definitely worth applying to. A lot of times these scholarships go unclaimed because no one applies to them. Many of these less competitive scholarships are advertised on social media. Try typing in #JanuaryScholarships in Twitter or Pinterest and see all the results that come up. I post different scholarships to my Pinterest board six times a day / scholarships .
    Bonus tip! Apply to contests- Contests are usually quicker and easier to apply for than scholarships. These are usually not renewable but can help you get things like a new computer or books.

      Did you know there are college scholarships for students who are support staff for athletic teams?
      You don't have to be the star quarterback or point guard.
      There is money and scholarships for manager, videographers, statisticians, student assistant coaches, and social media assistants.
      School after school from NCAA to NAIA to NJCAA are relying on students, right now, just like you to deliver their athletic programs and serve in key leadership roles…. And… They scholarship them to do it.

    Wow! This helped SO much!!! I've been told by my school to go to a 4 year but I knew from the people I talked too and my parents that that's not the greatest idea. So my plan is I'm going to a community college. Not just for it to be cheaper, start out with a less stressful college, and to do different fun things there but also a small part of me thought that maybe they'd offer scholarships but wow! You secured that thought! It defiantly makes me feel happier about my decision to go with community college. Also, I liked your personal experiences with writing essay's for different scholarships because you talked about being an elf and so was I! You helped a lot and I truly appreciate it. I'm trying to research if it's possibly to live, go to school, and participate in volunteering/extracurricular activities without having loans or paying.

    • @GirlwithDrive
      @GirlwithDrive  6 лет назад

      Hi Katie I'm so happy my video helped you. I hate that schools are pushing students to only consider four year colleges. Going to community college is literally the best decision I ever made. I also didn't feel forced to pick a major. It's a great way to get your prerequisites out of the way. I also encourage taking summer/winter session classes if you can. And what I liked about going to community college is that there are so many people from different backgrounds in your classes. Not just 18-21 year-olds. This taught me a lot. You also get to know your instructors more because the classes are small! Let me know if you need any help at all. I post private scholarships that you can apply for on my Pinterest page www.pinterest.com/girlwithdrive/scholarships/

    • @GirlwithDrive
      @GirlwithDrive  6 лет назад +6

      Hi Leslie! In my sophomore year at community college, I applied for an academic transfer scholarship that covered my tuition to the university that I transferred to. Most community colleges have transfer agreements with surrounding 4-year colleges and several offer scholarships to eligible students.

    • @tapop6745
      @tapop6745 6 лет назад

      Usually scholarships will make you write some sort of essay, personal statement or something along those lines. That is the time for you to explain why is your GPA low, what caused it, challenges you faced, and how did you overcame those challenges. It is kind of a way to show that I have low GPA but it could have been lower or it could have been that I never received the degree; however, I didn't give up and received the degree. Pretty much you talk about your struggle!
      Hopefully that helps!

      @AK Ton I live and work from United States, but I believe process will most likely be same. Any scholarship or university you apply to will look for someone who have a balance approach to what individual want to do with the research or whatever they are doing, cause and what may the result be. How will the result help the individual and the community immediate or broad. In any case before submitting any proposals or any other kind of written or prototypes they may require, make sure your it is well organized and reviewed by professional advisor or professor. Also if you can, find someone who have done similar PhD program that you are looking forward to do so they can mentor or advise you regular bases. Hopefully that helps! 😊
