73kg has got to be the hardest and most savage division in judo. You not only have to be strong, but you have to be fast, not only that you have to be extremely smart. It's a game of chess and a game of inches. Judo is always on another level when it comes to combat sports. And to top it all off, if you want to be at the top you have to have finesse. Why? Because it has to look easy and beautiful. Ono brought the glory back and what judo should look like. I hope the next generation can keep it going 👍👏🏆
Thank you @woodeokyi9053, The next generation: Nagase Takanori is keeping the gold medal, instead of ONO. Ono always prouds of the technical Judo of Nagase still now 2024.🏅☆
In my opinion Ono is the GOAT of -73kg, he destroyed all the -73kg division. He was a nightmare for all the other judokas. I think it's normal for him to take his retirement after this spectacular career and it's not clear to continue at 30 years old after winning all this title's.
An amazingly skillful and dynamic competitor. As an old, retired from competition, judoka, I get a vicarious thrill from watching him compete. No, I was never very good, but now I can watch and get my adrenaline going as if. Nice also to see referees whom I know or have known.

And now? Judo lost the greatest champion, strong, fast, smart and the elegance and the perfect execution of every technic has teach to every one of us why Judo is so great. Judo is a lifestyle, sacrifice, deduction, infinite training....hard moments... At the beginning he too felt down ... And every time raise up till the day Ono era started.... And now? I hope there will be another like him in the very near future. But at the end for all the wonderful moments we have lived following him we only can say Arigato Ono Sensei
Ono has devoted his life to judo since he was a preteen. I am grateful he has shared the powerful, commanding, and beautiful judo with the rest of the world. When I saw him compete at Budokan earlier this year, I felt the sense of Budo spirit in him transmitting to the whole audience there. I miss him greatly and wish you all the joy and happiness for everything he will try in his future.

Uno de los mejores q ha existido en 73 kg.. El dios Ono como se escucho en una transmisión.. El judo en su perfección que pena q se retire en la cúspide de su carrera se lo va extrañar este 2022 y en lo posterior.. 😔
He was able to turn tough, hardened and experienced competitors into rag-dolls with his tremendous speed, power, grip, control, timing and sharply-honed techniques. I don't think I've ever seen a more completely developed Judoka.
In 2008 I lived in Hawaii. Ono was just becoming known outside of Japan but had not yet cemented his place amongst the judo greats but the strong Japanese culture in Hawaii already knew him well enough to publish "Ono so ono!" In articles about this up and comer. So glad to have been given the inside knowledge to keep my eye on this guy back then. 🙏
Ono faced much tougher competition than Riner. The 73 category is stacked. He defeated many world Champions. Ono did also always go for the ippon, never a boring match with him. Riner is incredible but always bigger than his opponents.
What's up my friends, I hope you are having a nice holiday time. It seems that we will not see Shohei Ono stepping back on the mat in top level competition. What was your favourite Ono moment? Is it the right time for him to retire? Is he one of the best of all time? Share your opinion in comments below.
He has all the right to retire now, and what worse than fighting without motivation? I'm fond of him and his attitude, but nobody is talking about the disgrace of having physically abused junior jodukas in 2013. This must be placed in the context of Japanese judo, and that does not detract from his greatness, but it must also be mentioned, as weel as the apologies he produced before the world of Judo.
Your video is very well edited. Why not make another much shorter, with an excerpt for each Judo throw performed by ono in competition, with the name of the throw? I'm sure it could be very impressive.
Shohei ONO is the gentle & calm athlete.☆ He never show his smile on the tatami mat whenever he won. This is his way of Judo style. His mildness is usually loved by Japanese people.♡
truly the best of all time, he had an undefeatable power which made him able to fight against really heavy fighters. He always looked like easy when he was fighting... big lost ! Hope he will create new monsters like him
73 kilos has always been super competitive. Ono is the best to ever do it with Wang Ki-Chun a distant second. Incidentally, Wang had pinned Ono in competition before.
Ōno denies reports of his retirement. He hasn't made a decision yet on whether or not to retire. However, he's already out of the national team. @Vaitamanu Thank you, I'll think about it.
@ps350tal Да, есть вероятность, что он вернется, но маловероятно, что мы увидим его на Олимпиаде-2024.
