the black stuff in the post motor filter is carbon dust from the carbon brushes in the motor

That is NOT good!! That makes sense because on the initial switch on where I push the button to start the motor, there's a brief but harsh growl/grinding sound when the motor first starts up.

This is the only vacuum I have ever owned where that happens.

@@zephyr332 yea thats not good. Motor shouldn't be doing that so early on. Between that and the dust bin just sounds like you had bad luck.

@@BelLavoroAutoSpa Well, I spoke to the folks at Bissell, and they said they wanted to see pictures, so I sent them this RUclips video instead. They did say they would send me a new dust bin, but if the motor is obviously failing prematurely, then that's another can of worms all together!

I had the Dyson animal ball upright, and the trap door would get stuck occasionally too, so I'd just give it a scrub with an old, soft toothbrush and mild soapy water, especially around the rubber seals, and that fixed the problem every time. I never used dishwash liquid, as that can degrade rubber over time by drying it out, so I literally just used about a half tspn of bodywash in a 2 cup jug of warm water.
It's really important to keep your cleaning tools clean for them to be able to continue to do their job properly. Same goes for connecting seals, brushes, and filters. It makes a huge difference to the performance and longevity of your appliances.

6/29/21. Ken, I haven't vacuumed my bedroom for over six months. (Too much remodeling construction going on to bother.) I have two cats.
I vacuumed yesterday with my old Eureka pet vacuum until the roller died. I went to Lowe's and bought the same pet eraser vacuum on sale for $189.99.
I came home and re - vacuumed the same carpet and was amazed at how much more cat dander, cat hair and dust the new vacuum picked up that the old vacuum left behind.
The canister was filled to the top. There was some debris on the upper filter. Other than that, this machine did a great job of vacuuming. That is what I wanted it for.

This vacuum blows. Always getting clogged up really bad where you have to unscrew the 8 or so screws on the bottom to open up. It is very dusty and also have problems taking off dust cannister. Vacuum sucks in the wrong way. No pun intended.
