    I have been using a wide tooth comb for over a decade, it has always worked best for me, and I have less breakage and retained length. Other brushes otherwise...my hair hate it.

    I have to admit, aloe vera and the wide tooth comb have been my ultimate solution and I cut down my detangling process to about half an hour. But, what’s your introducing sounds intriguing. I hated finger detangling years ago, but if you say all it takes is making sure you’re trimmed in the first place in order to avoid those knots/most of them in the first place? That’s worth thinking about.

    • @fionawona111
      @fionawona111 3 дня назад +2

      Yeah I think solely finger detangling doesn't work if you have hair that tends to knot because you won't get all the shed hair by finger detangling. I would finger detangle first with something slippery in the hair to loosen the hair and then use a wide tooth comb or brush to do the rest.

    I recently realised that very few of the channels I follow, are actually my curl type and thats why so few of their tips and tricks work for me. I dont struggle with tangles at all. My hair is short, thin,and fine 😂. I could never understand why I detangle in less than a minute
    But my niece alwaysneeds help with her 4a/b hair. I will definitely implement this with her

  • @arj8383
    @arj8383 2 дня назад +5

    I genuinely don’t think this advice is realistic for everyone. My hair is dense, fine and 4 a/b/c. Even after a fresh trim it takes me a minimum of 30 mins to detangle bc I gotta take my time to make sure I’m thorough and not breaking my hair.
    The other issue is sometimes finger detangling doesn’t remove enough hair. Shed hair left in your head will cause more matting and tangles.
    I usually finger detangle and then go through the section with my unbrush. I feel like finger detangling + a gentle tool is the best of both worlds.

    • @janetidavies
      @janetidavies  День назад +1

      This is exactly my point-finger detangle first, then use a comb/brush if needed. If you’ve ever watched my wash day routines, you’ll see I do the same thing.
      The issue is that many people don’t know how to use combs properly and end up ripping their hair out because they’ve never learned to finger detangle first. Shed hair needs to be removed, of course, but if you’re not careful, tools can cause unnecessary breakage.
      That’s why I challenge people to not rely on combs/brushes at first and instead get used to finger detangling THEN reintroduce tools once they’ve mastered it. The goal isn’t to ban combs forever-it’s to help people build better detangling habits and retain more length

    I was just waiting to see what the texture of her hair was going to be. Because to say finger detangling is the way to go without knowing everybody’s hair texture to me is preposterous! Then I saw her hair texture and I’m like oh OK.. my curls are probably 10 times tighter wound than the person creating this video - and that does make a difference!

      My coils are very tight but I have some types of combs that I have figured out how to detangle with it. Also unbrush works just soooo well for me. Also Remington electric detangling brush is magical. Using 4 fingers to detangle 400k strands of hair is wild to me 😅😅😅

      Hey my love, did you watch the video in full? My point is that finger detangling should be the MAIN way you detangle your hair, with combs/brushes coming at the end-not the other way around.
      This is even more important for tighter curl patterns, where single-strand knots and tangles are much more common. My hair might appear looser when wet, but don’t be fooled-it shrinks right up and can tangle just like any other tightly coiled texture. The longer my hair gets, the more weight it has, which makes it hang differently, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t tangle.
      Regardless of curl pattern, finger detangling > combs/brushes. Many people start their natural hair journey without knowing how to use tools properly, leading to excessive breakage. My goal is to help people avoid that.
      But if you’re already retaining length and this method isn’t needed for you, that’s totally fine! The video is for those struggling with breakage and wanting to maximize growth.

    Saying it should take ten minutes to detangle your hair is not realistic. In my experience using okro to detangle my hair has been life changing... It reduced my detangling time by more than half.. it used to take me an hour it takes me 20 minutes.. although i noticed detangling is easier when there's less oil buildup in your hair.. the okro just works faster..
    Thanks for the video I'm going to stop combing my hair too often

    • @janetidavies
      @janetidavies  День назад

      Hey my love! I think it’s realistic if you’ve put your hair for example in a stretched hair style: blow out/braid out etc. Ofc if you have done a wash n go or braids with added hair you will need to spend more time. But as a general rule I think 10-15 minutes is fair only because when I first started I didn’t know how long was normal and would be there for hours. I remember my first proper wash day as a natural I detangled my hair for like 2 hours and raised my mums water bill 😂

      Did you watch the video in full? Because if you did, you’d know I never said to stop using brushes entirely-I said finger detangling should be your main method, and tools should come in at the end. There’s a difference.
      Also, in the pinned comment, I asked if people want a follow-up video to address exceptions like blow drying, protective styles, and other situations where different methods might be needed.
      I’m always open to discussion, and if you’re confused or have specific concerns, I’m happy to clarify. But calling something ‘misinformation’ without actually understanding the point of the video doesn’t seem fair.

    My ultra-fine ultra-tightly coiled 4c hair: *laughs at removing shed strands that you can't feel between your fingers with only fingers*. I use fingers first but always finish with a comb and when the trim is due, I have to use the tangle teezer for fine and fragile hair to really get in and smooth the hair and remove the shed hair caught in the velcro ends. After trim I can use more fingers than comb but by 6 weeks after the trim....need to use fingers and comb equally.

      I think you should start with your fingers. Once you've completely separated all the hair and pulled out most of the shed hair, it might be okay to follow with a brush to remove the remaining shed hair. You definitely want to make sure you've removed all the shed hair before shampooing. I’m not an expert. This just makes sense to me.

      A wide tooth comb does not create microscopic internal damage such as split ends. That is caused by chronic hot tools, color and bleach breaking down the s-bonds deep within the cortex, not brushes. You can never use a brush for the rest of your life and if you're still torturing your strands in other ways it won't make a bit of difference.
