    When you think about it, it's kind of crazy what BioWare did with Andromeda. It isn't just that they only added 2 new species to their lore; it's also that they left plenty of species behind, effectively making their universe a lot smaller. For a space franchise, it was a huge mistake.

    • @bossross8270
      @bossross8270 Год назад +1

      Also, it just plain sucked. I genuinely can't think of one thing I liked about it compared to the trilogy.

    • @Oleus
      @Oleus Год назад +2

      Yeah, it's even worse than that to be honest. Andromeda broke the lore completely and should never be mentioned again for Mass effect' sake. 😒😆
      The Andromeda galaxy is 2.5 million lightyears away from the Milky way. That's like 25 times the total length of our own galaxy, yet the Initiative crossed that gap in just 600 years or so.
      I'm not a big science guy but even I can understand simple concepts such as distances and we got a major problem here... I mean, only 1% of the Milky had been explored by the time of the original trilogy because it took a long time and a lot of ressources to move at regular FTL outside of Mass relays. But if you can go from one galaxy to the other in a few centuries, then you can go anywhere within your own galaxy in a matter of months or years. Even the relays are not that useful anymore in this situation.
      ME Andromeda will need massive retcons to work. At that point, they should just say ME Andromeda was just a movie in the ME Universe, like Blasto. 😅
      ME2 on the other hand did a great job at expanding the universe, showing you a new race (the Vorchas) after just a few minutes and telling you a lot of unkown civilisations were around.

      Retcon like the Benefactor being a benign Reaper and ME Andromeda being a Matrix like Simulation?

    • @Oleus
      @Oleus Год назад

      @@salvadorlloret-farina8767 retcons like they've found an ancient device or a singularity (that's bloody science fiction, you can always find an explanation) that connected both galaxies, to at least justify why they went so far when they still had an entire galaxy to explore right here. 😒
      The relays gave the false impression that you could go anywhere in the Milky way when only the clusters close to said relays were really explored. I think the teams at Bioware Montreal lost sight of that during their creative process.
      The Heleus cluster could've been in the Milky way itself, to be honest.
      A 300 billion stars galaxy like our own is supposed to be an infinite playground, it's almost a crime to make you feel like it's too small.

    The cosmic timing of the Raloi finding aliens & joining the wider Milky Way community was very... unfortunate... 😅 First dealing with bird flu prior to contact, then followed by an apocalyptic event with the Reapers... I wonder how the events of the war, our choices & outcomes will affect the alien races we have yet to meet... Especially any possible un/known pre-space species at the time, & if our ending choice had a devastating affect on their civilisation.

    If the Raloi has widespread news about them on the extranet, there's no way the reapers didn't listen in and realise what they were up to. Given time, I'm sure they would have been wiped out with the rest of the galaxy.
    Whether the reapers had enough time... I guess that's up to Bioware and whether they want to add a new species or not

    • @jarivuorinen3878
      @jarivuorinen3878 Год назад +3

      Harvest would have taken centuries as we know from Javik about their conflict with the Reapers. So while Reapers may know about the Raloi and essentially every sentient species in the Milky Way, they may focus first on taking on the most powerful species first. Trilogy also supports this as Reapers seem to focus on council species and gain control of the Citadel. Other species such as Krogan and Quarians seem to be affected less even when the harvest is in full swing in Mass Effect 3.
      So it's possible that species disconnected from seats of power are simply ignored at first and only kept at bay with minimal effort by Reapers. They are simply dealt with later. We don't see much indoctrination going on in Krogans or Quarians, and even Geth seem to be "indoctrinated" only by reprogramming their core functions and this is not real indoctrination, it's reversible.

      @@jarivuorinen3878 yeah, you're completely right. If the writers want the Raloi survive, I expect this will be the method they go about explaining it.
      If we're talking purely in universe, I'd expect this to be the likely outcome, but from a real life perspective it entirely depends on how many new races they want to include

    • @HanithSVK
      @HanithSVK Год назад

      Yagh had also a news about them on extranet + they massacred entire delegation sent from Citadel and yet they still hoped that destroying their satelites in orbit would be enough for Reapers to let them be.
      Even Hackett said that Yaghs may lead the next cycle if they lose, cause only spacefaring civilizations are harvested and Yaghs do not have spaceships, nor does the Raloi.
      And Raloi did the same thing Yaghs did. Isolated themselves, destroyed their space sattelites, telescopes etc. and hid.
      Btw. Raloi were discovered in 2184 by Asari, when Raloi sent their first telescope to space. This means that Raloi were not discovered till 2 years before the war, when they just began to consider space-travel. Considering how long Yaghs were known about, if they can hide from Reapers i would bet that Raloi would manage to do so too.

You have a great way of reading things, so easy to listen to. I know I said this before but I remember someone criticising you for going over old material, I always felt that was unfair. The presentation is good and these videos help keep Mass Effect current until the next game comes out. Having some of those races join the galactic community would definitely freshen things up without dumping the established races that we love. Thanks for the great video.

I would really love to see the Krogan respond to their threat, would shed some light as to why the galactic community did what they did and would be a way to further develop the Krogan as a prominent species in the universe. Maybe even have a Krogan embassy on the citadel (or whatever replaces it) respond to the threat and call the shots on how to handle them as they could be the only species physically strong enough to deal with them. I’d love to meet and get to know new races and learn more about the ones we know about already too like the Volus and Elcor. I think it would be interesting for new and upcoming races to deal with the consequences of the reaper war and firing of the crucible. Depending on how far along they were in their technology development and then to potentially have some force from the sky wipe out all of their technology and set them back would be interesting. How does that impact their development as a species and their questioning of whether there are other races out there in space? Would they develop religious reasons for its happening or even become hateful toward the council races. So much lore and story potential! Great video and awesome subject!

    The Yahg, now that I think about it are a lot like the Rakata from Star Wars. The Rakata were a lot like a school of sharks, carnivores utterly. First contact with them went badly because the small number of emissaries didn't understand that the Rakata measure a groups strength by numbers, and a smaller group always submits to a larger. By not immediately submitting to them the Rakata took it that the emissaries thought they were equals to the much larger group of Rakata. Enraged the Rakata attacked the Emissaries and ate them.

Many mathematical equations repeat throughout nature/ the universe such as Planck's Constant. It's pretty much considered a given that we will use math as a foundation for communication in a first contact scenario.
