Great timing my kid was needing some guidance on getting his army going, he only has the old combat patrol and some Pathfinders so far. This should help a lot.
If he has the old combat patrol he is in a very fortunate spot. Definitely consider a hammerhead box for his next purchase so that he can run it as a devilfish if he wants to but then still have the flexibility for a hammerhead or skyray depending on what he wants in his list.
If he hasn't built his pathfinders yet the new combat patrol is nice because it has the kill team pathfinder sprues, so he can customize all of his pathfinders even more.
The biggest recommendation I have for Tau is to learn some light sculpting. They are a covenant of aliens so you can make your own and use the mountains of spare parts with them. Then again a 2000pts army costs way more then a decent 3d printer setup
I'm guessing what you meant to have there was: Commander Shadowsun, Coldstar, Enforcer, Breacher Team, Pathfinder Team, (3) Stealth Battlesuits, 2x3 Crisis Fireknife, Devilfish
Great video. I was surprised how well informed it was -- even touching on the disdain for Phil Kelly and the magnetizing of the hammerhead chassis kits. Here's to hoping the upcoming update requires some updates when broadsides drop in points 🙏 😅
@@Speeds_Gaming_Corner Just watched another video of yours where you stated exactly that (may have missed it if you said so on this one) - looking forward to more Tau content as they're my favorite part of 40k!
I think the new combat patrol is pretty good. About the Devilfish, don’t glue the top hatch on and you can make both a sky ray and hammerhead with a hammerhead kit.
I like when ppl say tau dont fit the grimdark, like all the other armies? Like which one is grimdark? Maybe dark eldar or chaos, who else? The miniatures are not rly grimdark at all
So question. I bought Commander Farsight to lead my Montka army but I am not sure which commander unit to swap out to put him in and which style of crisis suits to pair him with. could there possibly be a follow up video concerning on how to use Farsight for those that want to use him?
I don't think that "How to use Commander Farsight" is worth its own video, but I think that Farsight is fine with either Sunforge or Starscythe crisis suits. 1) Fireknife with its longer range wants to hang further back and doesn't want to get into the heat of things to enable Farsight's +1 to wound. 2) Fireknifes don't really get as much out of the free stratagems that he gives. You don't really want your crisis suits to trigger Pinpoint Counter-Offensive, he can't use Combat Debarkation, Focused fire can't be free as it requires 2 units, and Aggressive Mobility favors units that want to move up close. I think the best pairing for Farsight is generally Sunforge as you want to get within 6" for the Melta 2 bonus as is and he can get reroll wounds with his plasma rifle. In my games I have not loved the combo too much as its been mostly inconsistent but it can also just feel a bit hard to move around. It really needs to have Rapid Ingress used for maximum effect to drop in within 22" of the target it wants to hit, Auto advance for 0cp 16" to get within melta range, and then unload those 6 fusion blasters with +1 to wound, rerolls wounds, reroll damage, and possibly rerolls hits or extra ap from. If you can Rapid Ingress within 16" you are even better off as you can follow it up with a charge from Farsight. For what units to drop I would generally say the Coldstar gets dropped first as you don't need its aiblity to share the Assault Keyword in Mont'ka and +2" of movespeed might not be as worthwhile as Armor of Contempt. It is important to remember though that the Enforcer has 8" of move as opposed to the Coldstar's 12" so that individual model has a 4" difference.
@@cyaspuwurpertube while you are correct as of course it is a setting lore wise they should've been delt with if not by the imperium then by girlymans nu marines. A reminder that the astartes conquered the galaxy in 300 years, fighting enemies that tau could only dream of having that tech. I don't like them even more than ultramarines because of how they 'fooled'(bad writing) a raven guard chapter master and also win a Torus against 200 Raptors but somehow the ultramatines can deal with them. If you want the lore 'corrected', make primaris make sense, make the imperium pull majority astartes out of frontline combat to begin primaris/raptor(corax, not cawl, cawl is the worst plot point ever) for 500-1000 years to reorganise and rearm into proto legions, forcing the imperial guard to pick up slack and not doing to well, leaving large areas that turn into sub empires, while still leaving the imperium as the strongest. This time and space leaves tau to undergo an ai revolt and so on, while other xenos can rise on the rim of the galaxy.

The guiding unit does not get the same bonuses when attacking a spotted enemy.
Based on wording I have gotten from TOs the kauyon detachment specifically does.
But nothing else does.
@@Speeds_Gaming_Corner That seems weird that only that one does, but hey if it does indeed work that way, that's a def plus
