Dude. I first picked up a guitar 3 years ago, I'm 44, and I started because I couldn't train martial arts anymore due to a spine injury. The very first RUclips instruction video I used was your beginner acoustics lesson, Em and Asus2 ...since then I've fallen in love with guitar. mainly dad rock and blues. I just want to thank you for everything and for being such a great teacher. and as soon as I can afford it I will be purchasing your blues masterclass. Keep teaching, Marty. It's not just about the information you give us. You've made a real impact on my life for the better.
HOLY SHhhhT really. Same story, kind of. I was hurt in the military. Although I still have a morning Siu Nim Tao routine before practice. How is your guitar play? or do you still practice. I practice, lol AND the same intro beginner Em Asus7 I learned. High 5 bro I also committed to learn the language I have been immersed in for 30 years. Well learn fluently.
@@xTK421x My injury wasn't anything quite so honourable. Respect to you. I was attacked from behind whilst urinating in a public toilet. Guy hit me in the neck with a set of brass knuckles. Bit of a fight ensued and he manged to get away. Didn't know it at the time, but two of my vertebrae had been broken. My neck would crack, but nothing that worried me. Years later I developed a Condition that made my spinal cord swell, and the vertebrae had fused together at this point, so they cut into the spinal cord. I have to use a special pick because I can't feel with my fingertips. I still practice what martial arts I can. But I studied a style of aikido that involved a lot of sport, so I definitely can't do that anymore. As for guitar, it has been a life saver. Having something to learn, something I never thought I could do. It dragged me out of depression. I'm glad you've found that same passion. I practice for a couple of hours at least every other day. I'm a slow learner lol But I'm very much into creating my own music rather than learning songs. Love improvising and writing.
@@tonyhudson8235 Please. I guarantee it was not honor that got me hurt lolol wrong place wrong time. I have nothing but respect for you friend. Passion one way or another, perhaps got us both into trouble. You are a luminous being. You may have found a new passion. You have potential unseen friend🙏 edited: look at what presence of mind and the exact matter that your mind worked over with a broken spine you still managed to deliver a bit of Justice for lack of a better word and probably not precisely so. I am amazed. I pray for you.
Thought I'd jump in on this. Hope you guys don't mind. I retired from the Air Force Reserves . Then 2 years after, or about 7 years ago, they removed a tumor from my spinal cord that left me paralyzed from waist down. Finding that I can't do many of the things I loved to do or would want to do, I also picked up the guitar. My only frustration is not being able to use Loop pedals and things like that. But, it sure has been rewarding! Now, my 14-year-old plays way better than I do. But, we have a common connection.
You have been instrumental in my development as a guitarist. From day one and over the span of 10 years, your lessons have been so enlightening and so enjoyable. You have become such a friend. Thank you Marty.
Hi Marty, I live in the UK, long retired at 73 working my career in London as a computer engineer which got in the way of my guitar playing. But thanks to learning from you, I’m still enjoying my hobby as a guitar player and performing at open mic sessions. Thanks again John S
…just learning your ‘final’ solo lesson Marty to Mark Knopfler’s Sultans, oh boy this is a real swine for a 73 year old with slow fingers but I’m getting there thanks again John S (Captain Madman)

Annoying as hell, but thanks for putting me in touch with "Don't Let Me Down". Can't wait to play it!. So now I know where Jimmy got his style from too! Thanks again Smarty, don't know what I'd do without you. 😇
Marty, love your tutorials. Wish I'd have found you YEARS ago. My question is do you have any suggestions on certifying techniques. I love old blues, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters, etc. but I gravitate to metal...lol 😆. Any tips on picking and syncopated rhythms into soloing?
I love your tutorials and lessons and I’ve learned a lot from your videos! Could you make a tutorial on how to play “Change” by Lipka? I’ve searched for a tutorial and no apps or anything have made any tutorial or found the chords of the song. I think the reason is that Change is not a very famous song, but it would be awesome if you found the chords or could make a tutorial for it!
This sounds so awesome man. I played these for my family and they told me I could play with slash. Though I know that will never happen.anyways, your amazing and PLEASE do November Rain by Guns & Rose's.
