- Let's learn simple blues phrasing over A blues chord progressions.
It's important to keep it simple like a melody.
Bag's Groove by Milt Jackson is a great example.
This melody's notes are from Root to 5th!
It's very rhythmic and a great groove! (4 bar phrase!)
Please leave your comment about this lesson and any requests.

"If you have melody, you have a listener", some of the most profound words ever spoken within the context of music. OK, time to go get this course.
Thank you so much!
This was exactly what I was looking for to start building phrasing. So many teachers just wanting to show flashing lick without connecting to the vocals and the riffs and playing off of the up beats and crossing down in beats on longer phrases. Which is what vocals do in blues music. Short, long phrases short phrase etc. I’m a classical player for the past 30 years now. But want to get back my Chicago roots, 60s and 70s. Yeah I’m an old guy. But I want to learn it right. Are you in Japan? What prefecture?
Blues is a bit like chess, you can learn the moves very quickly , they are simple moves. Then you spend the rest of your life mastering those moves together in context.
Blues is very deep like ocean!
That's a very good analysis Stu, I'll keep that in mind
@@TomoFujitaMusic and some parts of the ocean even to this day we have yet to explore.
@@purplecowideal I like your name. It's like John Cena but better
This is a great analogy.
Tomo is amazing teacher. Next pay day I will get your guitar wisdom.

Thank you so much for this wonderful series. I'm an early learner and was pulling my hair out trying to understand "E flat" in the comping section until you corrected at around 7:00.00 that chord was D. The universe is in alignment again. Your words of encouragement and 'Don't worry, etc are a tonic. Again, thank you.
You're very welcome! Sounds are correct than information!

This video is better!
I Wish All My Students Knew THESE Before They Came To Berklee

I’ve been listening to blues my whole life, I hear it in everything, it is a source, and the simplicity you mention is a great starting point. Thank you for this.
So great to hear that. Thank you!
So much is packed into this lesson. If you don't pay attention the finer details are missed. The use of triads that fall out of the cord shapes placed gently within simple lead patterns. Tomo makes this look so simple, fantastic!
I think I added too much information in one lesson (In the past..) My pro guitar friends are enjoying though.... Thank you so much!
So useful those hidden tricks. like the chromatic walk to the V chord. Your ear catches it, but it just get your foot going because of the smoothness. I watched video several times before my eyes caught it and I could start to learn it. And the changes from comping to riffs are as silk. And looking closely on the riffs, they are not all pentatonic. Yet it's blues.
Less is more, each phrase is a part of the story like a great sentence leaves you wanting. Clean with breathing room, a pleasure to hear you.
Thank you!
Tomo’s like Larry Bird. Ya don’t know you’re looking at the Best at first. The more ya watch the more you realize we’re just scratching the surface of so much more you didn’t know was out there and he has it all at the ready. Thank you 🤙🤙
Thank you so much! I am still learning
Perfect analogy.
Thank you for showing Bag's Groove. Super helpful, as always
I like the Root then 5th trick.
Glad to hear that!
He is so great. He play's so clean & precise . . . also he explains things, in an easily digestible manner. Great teacher = always interesting content presented here. oNe LovE from NYC
Thank you so much! So happy to hear that.
Impeccable timing… no metronome. You can actually see him working it out in his head.
Finding a guide who speaks in intervals is extremely refreshing. Greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
I have been teaching at Berklee for 28 years!
@@TomoFujitaMusic that explains it :) Been playing for 20 years and can’t wait to dig into your course. Cheers
It’s a lot more common now than it was a few years ago
Saving this video as ultimate blues phrasing lesson.

I really like the way in this video Tomo shows a lot of like "ideas" rather than licks or anything. I got a lot out of it that way. Thank you again Sir for a great lesson
So great to hear that. This way you can develop your own playing!
Such inspiration. Off to practise now!

So useful to me 🙏 Fifty years ago I got my first guitar, played and studied clarinet and learning now to transfer that study to guitar. Getting there! ❤🎶

"Melody is to listeners"
Thanks Tomo. I watched ads.
Yes! No melody no listeners
One day I will surely be signing up to your course.
Thank you so much! Only $9.99 a month subscription lessons.
Music can always be boiled down to the intervals. I tell my students to learn the interval patterns of their fav musicians solos/melodies and then be able to use those phrases in any key! Interval theory allows you to do this
Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful playing!
Thank you so much!
Best blues video

I really like your instruction. I think this one may have been made simpler without the chord substitutions
Thank you!
🙏🏽😊Good Evening, I was trying what you played in the beginning with just couple notes while practicing a scale, just to have a bit of fun 😄I have to keep doing something that just sounds interesting and rhythmic or melodic, I can’t do the same later, it’s done and forgotten most of the times until I hear somebody play the same 😄
Thanks for sharing! Keep working!

I love the tone of your PRS in this lesson. What amp are you using?
Thanks so much! 1967 Fender Pro Reverb & Two-Rock TF Signature combo. Both amps got my signature Eminence TF-1250 speakers.

Gerry which of Paul’s program did you go through and what are your thoughts? I am going through Tomo’s now.
Tomo, いつもありがとうございます。 I love your musicality and lessons. A question about your Silver Sky: did you hardtail it, or is the whammy bar just off it? It’s a beautiful instrument! 😎✌🏼
Thank you so much! Just the bar is off.
I am a starter beginner , will never get this good… but thank you for this it’s incredible!
