What a performance they are doing here, very theatrical. The costumes, the movements all of it presents a look that stands out. That being said it wouldn't be anything without backing it up with talent. And back it up they do, great musicians and that drummer. OMFG unusual beats that stand out and then incorporating 1/2 whole and double time. They all had their turn to shine in this song. Glad I took the time to watch this, thanks David.
The lead guitarist Hizaki is considered by some has THE best male guitarist in Japan when you include his compositional talent. He dresses in the Otaku Lolita style and is in his 40s. I have never seen this man dressed in anything other than Lolita at all in the last 12 years since I've been following this band. The band's style is called Visual Kei which is kind of Japan's version of Glam Rock with the stylized hair and make-up and the genre is Symphonic/Melodic Power Metal. The pioneers of Visual Kei are from the Godfathers of J-Metal, X Japan back in the early-mid 1980s. Right now Versailles is on hiatus... kind of. They've been off and on since 2012. They just released their best of and members of this band have periodically appeared on each other's RUclips channels. They are getting back together to celebrate with a 15th Anniversary tour this year. Hizaki has another Visual Kei band, Jupiter that had Yuki (drums), Teru (guitar) and Mashashi (bass) from Versailles in the beginning after Versailles went on hiatus. But now there is just guitarist Teru and Hizaki. They have a number of other revolving members from other bands. They have/had two lead vocalists. Kuze replacing Zin since 2018. Kuze can sing in English pretty well. Hizaki also has other side projects where he invites other musicians such as Tamu from Nemophila or Li-sa-X to perform. As for lead singer Kamijo, that is more like the extent of his vocal range. He doesn't go too high. Not sure if that is his limit or he purposely doesn't want to extend his range. He has his own solo career.

Thanks for the covering my suggestion :) This band has a lot of great music according to me, and is my favorite over even Nightwish. And it comes down to them choosing to base their compositions on "classical" arrangements (Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart etc). So I'm very happy that you enjoyed them and that I thought you would. And as you say their gimmick is fully incorporated, from movements to the compositions. The "druids" are just background dancers and are not part of the band, however they have songs where many of them comes on and act as a choir. Regarding Hizaki (lead guitarist, that is dressed like a woman), he is often accredited as the composer of the songs and is also seen as one of the most talented guitarists in Japan. And I fully agree with you that his style of playing shows why he is regarded so high in comparison to his student (Teru, the other guitarist).
Man I find you commenting in almost all the reactions of Versailles, I think you are really fan of this band, apart from me. I have seen them live 20/10. Versailles is like a collage of victorian costumes, 'Interview with the vampire' lyrics and narrative, final fantasy hair, and I think we all know Kamijo learned to develop his stage precence from another show man, Mr Gackt from Malice Mizer, and very early in his career i think he was inspired in David Bowie, that's w his androgynous looks on Lareine.
@@yokoumiko7108 Yes, I am a strong supporter of this band. I believe Gackt was somewhat of a role model for Kamijo yes. The reason I got so hooked by this band was because they managed to pull off something that I always dreamed about when learning guitar. And that was to mix renaissance composition with metal.

There's zero expectation musically when it comes to visual kei, i mean this band, dimlim, and PaRADEiS are all visual kei. If all you did was listen to em you'd never assume they were the same genre lol
Hello, good reaction, I'm a fan of the band, you came across a very commercial song of theirs, the truth is I would have suggested you react to the most underground, like God Palace, love from a dead orchestra, silent knight, and other songs, but it was a good video, thanks for reacting to them.
I don't know a lot about this band and to be honest it's not really my favourite style of metal (mainly the vocals) even though they are very talented musicians. But I remember my sister correcting my mistake once and I couldn't believe it when she said so and I actually missed a second time a couple of months later when it wasn't a Versailles picture (she had to correct me again, she already knew the band before I learned about them). I know for a fact that he manages to fake out a lot of people with it, I have seen more reactors that were caught off guard, it's very well done actually and he is an amazing guitar player to boot.

The popularity of Queen, a British band that appeared in Japanese shoujo manga, spread around the world and became a legend! Queen was more popular in Japan than in its home country. There are also visual-kei bands that are as close to heavy metal as possible. Furthermore, there are unique bands like versailles. HIZAKI had a metal band called Jupiter (similar in sound to HALLOWEEN). However, the band resurrected versailles because foreign Visual-kei fans prefer versailles to Jupiter.
Coming from the wrestling world its funny that you gotta give a preamble about the word gimmick. It's kinda cool to hear about the similarities when it comes to performance crafting.
how was that bass tapping solo sloppy ? lol, it was great, on tempo, on point, the double time parts were played just the way they were meant to be played, that guy is actually a crazy good bassist. Versailles is one of the most technical bands out there, a lot seem to underestimate them based on their looks on first impressions lol

Like X-Japan, Versailles belongs to a Kind of "Subculture" called Visual Kei and was very popular in Japan. This Band does Not exist any more, they existed from 2007 to 2015 i think. A Few of the original Band still playing Music under the Name "Jupiter" . I would recommend "Red Carpet Day" for another Review..thank you Sandman for recommend this one, and David for the Review.
Yeah, this kind of presentation was very common in Visual Kei back in the day (I haven't followed it much for a while), but androgyny and cross-dressing was employed by almost every band in the genre. Asagi from the band D has an amazing aesthetic, and the band is great, too.
The band have been touring and doing anniversary shows. Still active. Hizaki has posted stuff on his instagram. They were on hiatus from 2012, reformed for Budokan, then things got delayed as covid shut down everything, Japanese music venues especially. No new album yet afik.

Man, you're wrong to say they don't exist anymore, you know I went to a concert of theirs in 2017, they did a world tour that year, and now they're still doing shows in Japan periodically, they're not totally on hiatus, in fact, there's a real possibility that this or next year they will return with new things.

Their costumes are more based on the Royal Court of Louis the XIV at Versailles
