@@chandanbanerjee1968 Our government is always slow on the uptake. They gave Dr Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna 35 years after his death. In his book Last Few Years of Dr Ambedkar, Nanak Chand Rattu said he was certain the doctor would have happily accepted the honour if it had been given to him in his lifetime. And I doubt anyone can argue that he wouldn't have deserved it.

This was shooted by Ray's son Sandip ray. And it's next to impossible to get footage of uttam kumar apart from movie because he didn't like to be captured when he is in his own personality. He didn't want to reveal himself publically to hold nayak image.

Ray is a pure product of that classic Bengal Renaissance. As the great Japanese film director said, "If you have not seen Ray's films, it's like saying you have not seen the sun and the moon". Rabindranath and Ray will be remembered for eternity on this planet. Rabindranath wrote, Ray blossomed art and humaneness on screen.

Satyajit Ray is truly a Legend. I am glad I had the fortune to meet him all alone in 1968. I wish I had kept the map, the diagram he drew for me which took me to Tinu's place in Bally gunj with no problem.

It was an unique and rare occasion where the French President himself travelled to confer the honour. Usually the recipient travels to France to receive the honour. Who else but for Satyajit Ray one can make such exceptions!!
Also there's Prof. Nurul Hassan, receving Pres, Mitterand - one of the most loved and respected Governors of our times... Those were the days when almost everyone were a class apart.. Good memories cannot be erased nor replaced by those attempting to rewrite history..

I wonder that till before this highest honour from another country like France,,Satyajit Ray Sir was not conferred with such a similar honour by his own country.I remember that Lt P..M..Sri Narasimha Rao Sir went to hospital and conferred Satyajit Ray Sir "Bharat Ratna" much later when he was on the hospital bed near to his death.
