I love that JB referenced the confusing aspects of Olympic-style wrestling. As a former wrestler, this is one of the biggest downsides to freestyle wrestling- the subjectivity associated with points ("Should that have been two points? Or four? Or none?") and it makes it extremely hard to get new fans drawn in. There are multiple matches with freestyle wrestlers in the midst of wrestling, and they themselves are confused by the points. That should be fixed (such as the no-overtime rule, imho it hurts us) so we can get more fans in.

Modern MMA has advanced a fair bit as well. Wrestling is a cardio intensive endeavour. Most MMA fighters have trained takedown defense, and MMA striking has grown in sophistication. Much easier to sprawl, and then pick apart the wrestler. And even if you do take them down, it's not easy to keep them down and you have to watch out for submissions

The most humble and respectful students at any high school or university are the wrestlers. Discipline, drive, intelligence and work ethic are common traits of even the average wrestler. Wrestling teaches you how to win with all your might and lose with all your dignity.
