Saw Jordan wrestle in a Dual Meet with Fresno State & UC Davis. You don’t truly understand what a physical specimen the man is. He was wrestling at 178 (I believe ) Carved out of granite

I wrestled for years and now I've trained BJJ/MMA for a long time as well. In all honesty, he's right. @@TakeshixStudios, so wrestling isn't a contact sport? At the level he's at in wrestling, I'm pretty sure at some point he's been concussed. Are wrestlers exposed to CTE as much as Boxers, MMA fighters, or NFL players? Maybe not as much, but to say that they don't get concussed is a pretty naive thing to say
@@ivanvee1258 "Minimal CTE"? What does that even mean? First, wrestlers arent exposed to head trauma hardly at all which is the cause of CTE. Theres probably more head trauma in basketball than wrestling with elbows being thrown. Wrestling is leverage and torque, not hitting or extreme blows to the head or body. If you ever watched or done the sport you would see the head is rarely hit hard enough to get a concussion, not anymore than any other sport that is physical. Second, theres no "benefits" to "minimal CTE" at all. Its always bad. I think you are the one naive to the sport. I have wrestled through my youth and Uni years.... the only concussions i have EVER seen are from accidental head butts or running into something during practice. They arent common at all.
@@avidadolares I wrestled all throughout school too, and I saw plenty of concussions in my time. I only had one confirmed one in my 'career', but I know guys who got 3 or 4 over the course of their time in the sport. And when you get to the Olympic level, the way those animals train I'd bet concussions come around somewhat often. But you're 100% right that CTE is out of the question in wrestling. I don't think any pure wrestler has ever had CTE. Concussions, sure. But CTE comes from constant, sub-concussive blows to the head, i.e. getting punched without being KOd. There are zero sub concussive blows to the head in wrestling, minus the accidental headbutt or slam where you land on your head. But those are rare along with concussions in wrestling in general.
I don't know if Jordan likes Pro Wrestling or not, but if he takes to the sport he could be the 2nd coming of Kurt Angle. He is well spoken, young, and just has a level of prestige that is incomparable. He could be a huge hit in that world.
Well he's a skilled wrestlers and all, but idk about that. The reason Kurt Angle shined wasn't bc he was an Olympian it's because he was able to play a really good character and worked well in the attitude/ruthless aggression era. Now if you mean in ring I think Burroughs could very well be exactly like angle and catch on fast.
He's being very modest though, even if he could barely throw hands with a guy that big he'd just need to work on technique, his wrestling would be that elite that he'd be top 5 easy
Wow I saw Jordan boroughs wrestle live at Times Square when I was in 10th grade in 2016. It was an amazing experience, he beat a Russian wrestler. Great to see him on JRE.
Great and interesting interview Joe.Why would one of the greatest wrestlers of all time want to get his noggin' scrambled when his wife,he,and kids may not want that? Huge money would be the answer of many but after seeing what toll it's taken on so many great boxers and knowing MMA is an even more devastating sport 'my particular freedom' answer would probably conclude with "teach that lethal stuff to men who stand defending our lives but I think I'll remain as healthy and mentally sound as I'm capable being for those that love me".That's not cowardice to me it's prudence but then everyone in our nation is supposed to be able to decide for themselves how their freedom is spent.
I remember watching him win Midlands against Andrew Howe in college. I remember that close match he had with Metcalf in the NCAA finals the year before that. (Maybe 2) His style and attacks have evolved every year since his start at the world level. He's a classy guy and he's had a great career. If only Flo would let me watch him wrestle DT

It's even more astounding when you see a guy like cael sanderson who by the age of 21 was easily the greatest athlete to ever wrestle folkstyle, who then up and switched to a completely new style and in 3 years had become the best in the world at international freestyle.
Saw Jordan wrestle in a Dual Meet with Fresno State & UC Davis. You don’t truly understand what a physical specimen the man is. He was wrestling at 178 (I believe ) Carved out of granite
Awesome to see a nod to Nate Carr. He trained me in high school and was such a down to earth and friendly guy

@@youmang they should be, they obviously don’t need to be lol.
It's been that way though for the last 100 years or so since Hollywood realised everyone just wanted to look at pretty people on a big screen for 2 hours.
Talent has nothing to do with fame. I mean outside the BJJ or Amateur Wrestling hardcore fans, how many people in the street could name you the current elite world champions in those sports.
Could you tell me the last 5 world Chess Champions without looking it up.

Thank you for getting him on!!! The wrestling community has been patiently waiting on this!
Man, as much as I wish he’d have done MMA, as a former wrestler I have massive respect for his decision to have not.
This is my first time hearing Jordan Burroughs speak and he seems like a genuinely great guy! Good interview fellas 🤙
Jordan Burroughs has it all... he can talk, he's got the look, the pedigree and he can stretch anyone on this planet.
“Stretch anyone on the plant” you watch too many movies?
Thanks joe for bringinging him into the spotlight. Good for the sport!!!
This dude is a legend. I don’t know shit about wrestling but for some reason I’ve known about him. He’s next level! I’ve always wanted to see him compete in MMA!
What an interesting guy to whom to listen. Eloquent, on topic, thank you.
I know Joe wanted to light him up when he said his lady stopped him..
Possibly
Yeah he sounded all bitch whipped right there
A woman once again holding a man back from greatness.. hate to see it
@@TheBasedBalkan from greatness and brain damage
@@TheBasedBalkan Hes a multi Olympian.Hes had his fair share of greatness goofy
He’d have been a big hit in the UFC - shame we missed out really
He doesn't need the UFC. He really is making money earning medals overseas, winning exhibitions in the US, and sponsorships.
He's one of the few American athletes that the general public in the US has no idea who he is, but is famous overseas.
Also the money is not the same wrestling isnt that good in wealth like prize fighting and hes just not bout it he not mentally strong and feels he will get hurt when i get into the ring i never go into it thinking ima het hurt cant blame him he knows he cant bang with them dogs in mma
Thanks a lot wife chick... 😑
@@edwincuevas4823 lmao he would murder you bro chill
@@nelsonedwards6184 lmao nah bro wrestling is different than fighting he can do all his bs wanna grab my legs but he not just gonna reach for my legs and think its gonna be a match this a real fight he never been hit hard and been in situations like that ill never let him establish his distance and establish mine and throw leg kicks and knees is he try to grab me i also wrestle so if he manages to get me he better watch elbows and other shit he not like them dogs in mma and he knows that its cool he makes hes nice lil money in wrestling and walks cool
I wrestled for years and now I've trained BJJ/MMA for a long time as well. In all honesty, he's right. Most of the injuries sustained in wrestling are either in practice or self-inflicted, like from trying to turn out of something stupid. MMA has people actively trying to hurt you. Wayyy more injuries there
Muay Thai and boxing more dangerous
@@billcipher3946 yes in terms of damage but watch rodtang vs mighty mouse and you will see that mma absolutely destroys muay thai
Damn it someone post the whole thing I’m gonna see if Spotify has a free trail
I always imagined Burroughs to be a stuck up guy by the way he man handled Askren. He seems like a cool as person now!
He was competing...
some of the nicest people i know are wrestlers, don’t let them fool you by their intimidating appearance
I sont know what a stuck up guy means but somehow its self explaining and i agree.
He seems kinda "nerdish"
So him dominating Ben Askren made you think he was stuck up? Nice logic there
Burroughs is the man!
Nah joe, I saw corn hole on ESPN in 2018 and was like *”So that game we played at church during halloween is a sport 🤔”*
This was my favorite episode in a long time!
Jordan is articulate and a level headed man, excellent representative of Collegiate and Olympic Wrestling!
I gotta say, I'm not mad at his reasoning here. I like that he's being honest on why. Good stuff.
Wrestling is the best sport ever! I just hope more people would realize that.
That and judo

Sorry man I tried watching it. I found it boring :(. I will try again one day.

He's done great in wrestling, why change it up and put himself under more stress and danger. Love what he's done!
I agree. Also MMA fighters are underpaid. Unless you’re a standout elite MMA star.
I miss JRE on youtube.
You're not missing much now... Same old comedian's, over and over.
Look at Jordan vs Ben. Ben flatfooted as ever, while Jordan's rear heel was almost always up ready to spring forward. He was playing a distance game that Ben has completely neglected
They have made it so that international wrestling is incredibly fast paced and exciting to watch, much more so than in the past. I think if people gave it a shot they would like it.
Just became a Jordan Burroughs fan, what a solid dude.
Ben Askren was widely known as one of the best ever wrestling specialists to compete in MMA and Jordan absolutely SMASHED him in a wrestling bout. Would have loved to see him compete in MMA after the 2012 Olympics and see where his career could have gone.
well he wrestled askren for a charity event and askren was out of his prime for about ten years
Any Olympic gold medalist could’ve done that to Askren if they were in the same weight class.
@@cmf20000 No he wasn’t lol. Askren was still wrestling considering he was in the UFC and wrestling was pretty much all he did there.
Been a hardcore JRE fan since the low 300s, but ever since the move to Spotify I have only watched one full episode(Bill Burr).
The JRE is kind of just fading away from my life in a weird way.
Same. I listen to patrice on O and A instead now though lol. Those never get old
So glad to see a wrestler on here. My favorite sport. The sport needs more cameras on it.
Jordan from Nebraska would actually do great in the UFC. His 9 dominant years in wrestling is unbelievable
this dude seems really smart.
Benefits of having minimal CTE
@@ivanvee1258 You're saying that he has slight brain damage from years of wrestling?
Tbh it's unlikely
He's a 5x 5x 5x 5x 5x world champ
Well he's a skilled wrestlers and all, but idk about that. The reason Kurt Angle shined wasn't bc he was an Olympian it's because he was able to play a really good character and worked well in the attitude/ruthless aggression era. Now if you mean in ring I think Burroughs could very well be exactly like angle and catch on fast.
This dude is going to be a great commentator some day. Very well spoken individual.
I've never wrestled in my life but I watch the NCAA championships every year on ESPN and would definitely watch a league if they got it on cable.
He's being very modest though, even if he could barely throw hands with a guy that big he'd just need to work on technique, his wrestling would be that elite that he'd be top 5 easy
You sure the Corn hole championship wasn't on ESPN 8 "the ocho!"
@Johnny Pitbull and a different 8
Burrough’s coming through with the Bill’s Mafia jacket, I like this guy!
Wow I saw Jordan boroughs wrestle live at Times Square when I was in 10th grade in 2016. It was an amazing experience, he beat a Russian wrestler. Great to see him on JRE.
Burroughs is an incredibly well spoken gent . Wish him success . Glad he didn’t go mma honestly

Respect to Rogan rocking the Roots of Fight gear and the Johnson hoodie. A TV show needs to be made with Jack Johnson. ASAP.
After seeing how coherent and articulate he is I'm glad he didn't go into MMA and get CTE
