Don’t get rid of the old box, connect them together. Eventually you will fill them up. It always happens. Recommended note: In the aircraft industry, we use foam pads and cut out silhouette of the tools. It makes it nice and neat, the tools are locked in place so they cannot roll around, and if one is missing you can easily see what is missing.
Your enthusiasm for a new toolbox made me flash back to when I got my first 'real' toolbox, matching top and bottom boxes... I was like a kid on Christmas morning moving my tools into their own new home!! Like you I had space left over... but that didn't last long!!
Don't lose the old toolbox. As time goes on and you acquire more new tools, you will find that the space you need for those tools doesn't exist in the new tool box. The old toolbox will come in handy for extra space in that situation. I like how you arrange your tools.
Doris--It appears that you already have drawer liners in your toolbox, which is great. Keep your tools in the carriers provided at purchase, or buy wrench/plier/screwdriver racks. I don't care much for socket rails (they're flimsy and tip over), so I buy plastic socket trays to store and transport them as needed. This prevents them from sliding around and maintains your tool organization at a reasonable cost. All or most of these items can be purchased on Amazon or at auto parts stores. A few drops of oil on the drawer slides and/or bearings insures they open and close easily. The "converters" you mentioned at around 7:20 on the video are more commonly known as adapters. For instance, you can use adapters on a 3/8"-drive ratchet to also handle 1/4"-drive sockets, as well as 1/2"-drive sockets. I'm not gonna tell you what tools belong in what drawer; everyone needs to figure that out for themselves. You usually end up putting the most-frequently-used tools in the top couple of drawers, and lesser-used items below those. Other than that, you're doing fine, so have fun.
Congrats on the new tool chest. You did a great job of organizing. Tools accumulate: start looking at tool chest organization ideas, you’ll outgrow it soon. Before you know it, you’ll be standing wrenches and pliers on end and other stuff like that. My daughter is building her tool collection, she’s been helping me in the garage since she was a tot, and is starting to drive; so it’s now more of a priority for her to start her own collection. Keep up the good work, it’s nice to have a positive role model for young ladies to look to.
ToolBox widget !!! Look around on their site, perhaps watch a few videos . Will really tighten up the space in your wrench drawers . No sliding around ! Everything in order , notice quickly when something is missing . Work great for wrenches and screw drivers !
Awesome tool chest. I have a huge 5 foot wide, 6 foot tall double-decker that I used when I was working as a mechanic. Now since I retired I have pretty much been throwing tools into the drawers. I need to go through and organize mine.. I have a drawer full of sockets all the way from 1/4 to 1 inch. Hard to find a specific wrench when the whole drawer is filled with wrenches. That old chest will work to put stuff that won't fit or you need to keep separate. Another suggestion, labels. Label each drawer so you can quickly go to the right one.
Your tool box is so organized and everything has its place..My tool box like 10 year olds put my tools away..A tool box with the most awesome chick in the world's touch..Very nice..
You can get foam pads which you can cut out yourself and put labels on for each spanner / socket etc so it stays in place for certain and has a dedicated slot, along with small stickers saying the size etc
Husky gets a lot of grief from the professional community. I work in construction. It’s the joke brand. But for personal/ moderate use, it’s made very well.
Just stopped by to say hello and saved my life with every video, motivation to STRUGGLE to build my life back up. After a car accident and shattered/ broken leg almost a year ago now. My life has been bat shit crazy. But I'm driven to be the best for my 2 kids. I'm working hard on my goals and soon I'll be capable of walking around to better my life. Thanks for motivation.
You will turn it all around and be great! Things happen, but that doesn't mean it ends there. All your goals will come true and more. It makes me happy I can some what help in a small way. Take care and best of luck!
Nothing wrong with a little OCPD. I've lived like that all my life and your attitude is totally in tune with mine. Love how much you love the new toolbox!
Whenever you get a chance look into Tool Grid organizers. They are a little expensive to buy but you can change your drawer layout when you purchase more tools.
Interesting..those look so good. Way better than shadow boxing for every tool that I will likely swap and change out in time. I will check them out. Thank you!
Should get some dense foam to use as a cavity insert organiser just cut out the shape for the tool and insert the tool. Neat and easy to maintain. Stops everything from sliding around in the drawer when you use a hip to shut it when you are busy
Love the new tool box/bench !! Sure helps when you can locate the tool you need in a timely manner. Someday you could mount a power strip on or in the tool box so you can plug all the chargers in a have the spare batteries ready for use. I used a hole saw on mine before I built a bigger work bench just for electrical work. Made same hole in the back of the drawer and ran all the plug wires up to the power strip. Can’t wait for the engine tear down and also the Hellcat videos. You’re doing a great job! 👊🏼
I been a mechanic for over 20 year, I brought the 56 inch husky top and bottom toolbox 3 year ago I still haven’t complained yet. I own lot of different brand toolbox.I just can’t justify spending 10,000 plus dollar on a toolbox
I agree. I see no issues at all.. I've had some comments stating why not snap or other 6-7k+ tool boxes.. well. The $700 one I have fits the same tools and works the same way ;). I can spend that money elsewhere. Cheers!
Nice tool chest, Doris. That's the thing about tools. They add up faster than one thinks. Keep us informed about the GT350. I'm really interested in the engine rebuild. Good luck with everything!
Good you got the middle swivel wheel. I have the Huskey 72" and the middle wheel is fixed. A big PIA when trying to pull the chest away from a wall. Swapped with Harbor Freight wheels.
I enjoy watching you work and not afraid to get dirty working. I cannot do that work anymore because of my hands are too bad, it took me a half a day to change the battery in the trunk of my 2015 Chevy SS last week. Feliz Navidad
Very nice. I was going to suggest going to a local mechanic and asking to see how they lay out their boxes. Since they do it on the daily, and may put stuff such that most used is higher, etc. But alas, you have a system. Fine tune over time. Very nice start to a well rounded set of tools. You should be able to handle most jobs. I suspect you'll need a few more tools for the engine rebuild. Mag base and a 0-1" dial indicator comes to mind. I like Starrett or Mitutoyo, but not required. I was a machinist for quite a few years so I have a lot of tools for that job.
There’s a lot of good solutions for wrench organization and even mini socket rails for conversions and extra sockets, pliers too. I got the majority of my organization crap from amazon personally, worked wonders. Now I just need the bigger toolbox ;)
Haha, I like them all! I'm just so happy I finally have more space for all the tools. It was frustrating since the previous tool box was always disorganized due to the lack of space.
Check out the Tekton wrench trays. They come in various sizes, for your various sets. And they store them slanted and overlapping, so you'll shorten up your columns of wrenches. What are your plans for the old box? I was thinking you could make that a pneumatic/power tool cart. Maybe wall mount the chargers, keep them from blocking table space. That would free up a ton of space in the new box for more hand tools! 😁
I changed the oil in my Ram diesel and bragged to all my friends. Doris, I pulled the engine in my Mustang this morning then I went to breakfast.. I think you should get a second degree in mechanical engineering. BTW I only have 2 friends, my wife and dog so it wasn't a lot of bragging.
Haha, that made me laugh. I would love to eventually get some certifications in the future. I really enjoy doing this as a hobby and working on my cars. It's the best feeling ever. Thanks for watching.
All those tools are going to shift around, you can save space by having a wrench organizer and the tools shifting around when opening and closing the drawers with organizers.
If you get some Kaizen foam for the drawers you can cut the shapes of the hand tools out & then everything has a permanent place & the tools won't go back in the wrong place if someone is helping you.
With the old toolbox you can butt it next to the new toolbox to make you work space longer. In the smaller toolbox you can put all your special tools that you don't use a lot in there.
I saw you spend a lot of time organizing your wrenches during the change-over to the new tool box. They won't stay that way, though, for long. Every time you open or close the drawer, they scoot or roll around inside. Have you considered buying some wrench racks or using the plastic bags they originally came in? They're also handy when you need to take them from the box over to work on a car.in the garage; it's the same principle as organizing your sockets. Try giving those a shot; I think they'll work out for you. Incidentally, that bottom drawer full of odd tools and battery chargers that you can no longer identify is usually called your junk drawer.
get some wrench organizers, they will help you keep your wrenches in order when you slam your drawer shut. Crowsfoot sockets are the rarely use but it is a life saver once you do.
WOOOOWWW!!! That is a nice tool box....great upgrade. I too like to be organized and it expedites the need to find the correct tool when you have to complete any job, in this case, your auto upgrades. I’m extremely interested on your GT350 motor fix.
I'm going to be really technical here but here goes, clicker torque wrenches have moving parts and really should be kept inside your house where the temp. is controlled and kept away from temp. swings. May I also suggest that they be calibrated before you start assembly. Have a great time with your project!
Go girl... go... you been busy!, nice toolbox, please reseal the cutting board top, it will last way longer... they don't do a very good job on sealing their tops (IMO) maybe flip it to its non-treated side an do a sealer over it... Now you can use your old toolbox as a service cart... use the drawers for parts an the top for a work surface, leave the top drawer for your most used tools to cart around, that way using both daily an your newer box will be in better shape to last you longer or use your older box for storage of older tools.. You need a flex head wracthiting set, I love mine and I use mine a lot, eBay sales cheap ones or you can buy a small set to start off, like gearwrench, there's no offset for the head so you can change the angle ..making them easier to get into those hard to reach areas, that have a hard angles, that a regular wratchetwrench won't angle at.. Just a thought.... Thank you for sharing the news on the other cars an the sweet new tool box.. (edit) : Oh, sorry to ask but does your peg-board seam a bit weak once you start loading weight on it, if it does... Theirs posts that you could run along the back of your box to make it stronger an support more weight if it seams to weak?
Nice set up - one big suggestion - move your Chargers to the top shelf and plug them in so that you always have full batteries and easy access next to the actual cordless tools that they go in...
Awesome Doris great job I love the new box . You could put the chargers on the peg board with a shelf that would open that draw and if I was you I would get a piece of stainless plate an put it on the either side top your box for the vice then mount your vice on it so it would be rigid and so your not damaging the wood surface. Don’t forget too countersink the fasteners into the stainless. Anyways great job Doris 👍🏻
I have the same box. Didn't know the top draw came out that far. lol Had to put some grease on it after watching your video. Where didn't you get the pegs for the pegboard? I can't bring myself to drill holes for a vise.
You should Mount the chargers either on the pegboard or on another board which you could secure to your new toolbox. This way you could have them powered up and charging whenever necessary.
Hi D now that's what I call a toolbox every thing in place and a place for everything nice one totally looking forward to all vlogs once you have got all the engine stand and all the other parts 👌👌🤗🤗👍👍
Great first big box . I got a 52" husky. And have had for several years and now im out growing it had to buy a shop cart. Time for a bigger better one lol . One day u will out grow yours .hope it works well for u . Great video as always. Very beautiful🔥
Save your top draw for what u use most. Exp metric sockets 8 10 12 14 X 3/8, and 17 19 22x 1/2 etc., ( for metric )keep those handier. Than odd sizes like 11mmt. just an idea.
Get long enough bolts to put it on the engine stand. The length will depend on the engine stand you have. You’ll have the engine in the air and now way to bolt it to the engine stand. Happened to me plenty of times.
I can appreciate the effort well spent on planning your tools out so that it makes for ease of operation when you're in the middle of project. I built my rollaway cabinet tool box to have space with my vice. Also larger things like drillpress and grinders on plywood bases to be clamped or bolted to the counter for use. Nice job so far though
Look in to Tekton socket holders I use a couple that I cut in half and have one for my 3/8 extensions and adapter and one for the 1/4 drive and use them also for my sockets
Great job Doris! I know you to teach a class to my 4 kids on organizing because they don't listen to me or Tiffany anymore on that LOL. Looking forward to the Hellcat vids and of course the GT350 rebuild. Keep up the great content.
congrads on your box..Amazon sells nice organizers for your wrenches..and yeah ratcheting wrenches are the best..like always enjoy your vids..cant wait for your next one..

Thank you. I like to mix things up from time to time. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers!
Good👍 tools are the mechanic's jewelry. You are maintaining your tools new and shiny.🔨⚒🛠🔧🔩 congratulations for you new tool chest
Thank you, I appreciate it. That's an interesting way to put it haha.
Where can I find the same toolbox looks amazing and perfect with the pegboard
I have the same box. Didn't know the top draw came out that far. lol Had to put some grease on it after watching your video. Where didn't you get the pegs for the pegboard? I can't bring myself to drill holes for a vise.
Always liked Husky stuff. Would highly recommend using Kaizen Foam for those drawers. Makes it so nice and clean...
You should Mount the chargers either on the pegboard or on another board which you could secure to your new toolbox. This way you could have them powered up and charging whenever necessary.
I don't no what to say But Amazing set up .........💛 Merry Christmas Dorris.
Garage looking better, and can't wait for those redeye videos 😀
Thanks! Coming right up!
Thanks! I think..I think that will be enough haha. I have the little cart just in case. Thank you and thanks for watching.
I have the exact same cabinet. Just got it on Black Friday. Good stuff 👍
Nice! Great sale.. 👍😀
That's a very good idea. I will go ahead and check. The stand comes with bolts, but you're right. It make not be long enough. Thanks for the tip!
All you really need now is a feeler guage leaf set, micrometer set, big pry bar, variety of types of hammers, etc.
Yup.. am still missing a lot..all in time ;)
Keep doing your thing you put most of these guy to shame with a wrench your skills are amazing keep up the good work!!!
Love how your garage/shop is taking form love the tool box and your set up and love your cars keep up the hard work
Look in to Tekton socket holders I use a couple that I cut in half and have one for my 3/8 extensions and adapter and one for the 1/4 drive and use them also for my sockets
Got the mac edge box...reasonable price and decent size....I do believe mac tool and huksy are in bed...nice tool box homeslice
