The places you went to are the popular places there’s tons of mines, abandoned places, haunted places, historical sites. If you go to the main hospital in Hancock there’s many pics and info about the medical industry way back then, in fact my grandma worked at the st Joseph hospital (when it was a hospital) on Michigan st and w water st but then she passed away at the main hospital in 2003.
You two do such an excellent job on your vlogs! My husband and I really appreciate the tidbits of history you sprinkle throughout your videos, too. Just really, really nicely done. We've been following you for years, and you're one of the very best travel vloggers on RUclips!
We had the same issues with things being closed when they said they should be open when we were up there in June! It’s still a great place to visit and the people are so friendly all through the UP!
I remember going to school walking through snow tunnels in 1979 when it snowed 390". The next time you are there you need to take a few days off and hike Isle Royal to see Moose and hear the wolves howl at night. On your next adventure make sure to eat a Pasty, stopover at Tahquamenon Falls then over to where I use to work the summer on Mackinac Island. The best time to see the Northern lights is late October and early November. You may want to get out of there in the next three weeks before the snowfall. Thank you for the nice video.
Oh wow, that’s insane! And this was actually filmed 4 weeks ago, so we’re pretty long gone now and safe from snow, but we hit up a couple of those spots in the next video 😃
Bonus points for using the word crevasse more than once in a video not about crevasses. This was a cool video, figuratively! 😂 Loved meeting y’all! Safe travels!!
Very cool video loved it I live up here in Houghton Michigan and I've been living up here since I moved from la about 25 years ago it's got its ups and downs but at the end of the day it's an awesome and very unique area
Love the rustic beauty of the U.P.! Yay! Holy Jam, that place is the best! I’m absolutely loving your Midwest adventures highlighting some of my favorite places I’ve explored and adding a historical element! As much as I love all the Vlogs inspiring my travel bucket list, I’m loving this reminder of all the places that are within a day drive that I can go explore again with my kiddos!
Yay! That means a lot to us! A huge goal for us has always been to show that you don’t have to go to far away places to have adventures. So we’re glad we can remind you of the fun you can have close to home!
We visited the UP this Summer with Copper Harbor being the "apex" of our Skoolie trip. We fell in love with Lake Superior's shores and plan to come back again and again. Your travels are spectacular, guys... thank you for sharing your fun adventures with all of us!!
Love your videos. I saw a young couple fixing up their Sprinter Van as I was walking my dog. I asked them if they watched your videos and they said “Oh Yeah!” They plan on doing the same thing on a smaller scale on the West Coast.
What a educational vlog…LOVED seeing inside all the buildings and getting a feel of how people lived and worked! The mines were so cool too! Your Kona voices always make me smile! All the scenic views were gorgeous as usual! And let’s not forget to mention that PB&J brownie! 🤤😋🤤😋
I just recently found your channel - looking at your Big Island videos - we are taking a return trip to the Big Island in December (for our 20th anniversary - along with our kids). Loved the videos and then subscribed - now you are at my home state happy place, the Keweenaw! We have visited Copper Harbor and the Keweenaw many times - my husband and I were engaged on Brockway Mountain Drive and we visited the Jampot for the first time 21 years ago when it was still relatively unknown. So happy to see you visiting one of the most beautiful places I know.
I really like that you guys visit 'Lesser-known' spots....it make me look forward to next video...like opening a new mystery door...Kona is such a cutie... much love from Texas! 🐶🚐🙉🤗
I really like watching your videos. You really do some great research for the areas in your videos. I was born and raised in Michigan. And I learned stuff I didn’t already know.
Argh! Just realized I forgot to comment when we first watched this. It was so ironic because we had just found that other couple in the gray van's channel like the day before they appeared in your video. So bizarre! Small world. That self-guided mine tour looked so fun. I really wanted to tour a mine while we were visiting the Keewenau but we didn't end up fitting it in. Bummer! Next time!!!
How funny! We ran into them again randomly two days later as well and it was a ton of fun to meet others in a van. We really liked this mine tour since it was self guided and cheaper than the other option in town (but that one looks awesome too!)
@@AdventuresofAplusK Yes, I like the thought of doing a self-guided tour as well for the same reason you did - so you feel like you're really exploring!
This may be my 2nd Gilmore Girl reference of the summer, but the start of this episode sounded like it was going to make for great drinking game... every time you say 'Copper Boom' 🤣 but then the phrase disappeared! 🤷♀️ I love that they let you take dogs in the mine - how was Kona was the skunk? Loved the Bakery you went to. The brownies looked delicious and the caramel looked so gooey, I'm with you Kathryn, so much better that way! If you guys liked Fort Wilkins, next time you make it over this side of the pond, you might like a place called 'Beamish'. It's about 10 minutes up the road from where I grew up, and similarly, it's quite interactive, staff in period costume, but you get around the outdoor museum on old Victorian trams or buses.
Hahahah we should’ve said it more to give viewers a good time 😜 Kona thankfully didn’t see the skunk. She probably would’ve wanted to eat it 🙄 But it was so cute! Oooo good to know about Beamish! We know we say this often to you, but we cannot wait to make it your way!
@Scho and Jo YES!!! This comment makes me so happy. Pleased to know I'm not the only one who who could hear Rory and Lorelai in the back of their heads! 🤣
I'm about halfway through (will watch the rest after work) and this feels surreal: I was just at a lot of this stuff! It was a Thursday, and I got into the Keweenaw NHP visitor center, where the National Park Service has done an exemplary job displaying the history on two floors. I fully recommend the AmericInn by Wyndham across the street in Calumet for viewers that use hotels (clean, affordable, etc.). The Delaware mine looks similar to Central Mine. I love that you guys followed up on some things we discussed months ago! Nobody can say A+K does not keep their word. :)
Thank you - I'm very happy to be of help! In fact, I could not be happier with a RUclips video than I am with this, so forgive me if I have plenty to say (multiple comments). I also had a similar experience in that I woke up the morning I was going to check out the Keweenaw Peninsula and I realized there was too much to do! I wound up prioritizing hiking, although I did get some mining history in (see prior comment). Now that I've done the trails myself, I'm going to double-down on the Bare Bluff Trail and Montreal Falls suggestions. Both of those trails are gorgeous, especially Montreal Falls where you can sit in the middle of the falls and watch the falls empty into Lake Superior. Next time you come through, you'll want to remember these. (Watch out for Bare Bluff's 200-foot descent through a rock scramble!)
Jampot: This is awesome you made it there! I actually had to have this suggested to me. As soon as all my fellow Michiganders knew I was in Keweenaw, I started getting bombarded with Jampot nudges. So I went. I bought a lot of goodies for some relatives, and my uncle was quick to tell me the almond sugar cookies were the best cookies he's ever had. I tend to shy away from partaking myself due to my peanut allergy, which sets up one of the best compliments I can give you: I love your videos despite the fact I can't eat half of what you guys eat! (But if you have other peanut allergy fans, I have tips: 88 Acres protein bars for hiking and Gerbs sunflower seeds.)
We are so happy that you enjoyed the video! We always want to make those who love a place happy! Bare Bluff looks amazing and I contemplated it, but decided to focus more on the mining this time. We will for sure check it out next time! So sorry to hear you have a peanut allergy, that is such a bummer! We are glad the sight of us eating nut products doesn't scare you away though 😄
I think we both got lucky with the bugs. The UP was dry in August (some waterfalls like Hungarian Falls and Laughing Whitefish Falls were just a trickle), and so there weren't the swarms that I saw back in May. Thank you for including Fort Wilkins!! I ran out of time before I could get there, and it is now officially on my list. If there was one suggestion I could have made to you with the experience I now have, it's this: watch the sunset over Lake Superior from the copper mill ruins at Freda (due west of Houghton). It's the perfect combination of mine history and sunset-viewing. It was a guess on my part; I figured a mill ruin facing west on the lake would work, and it exceeded expectations. I think only me and a few Michigan Tech students that were there know this. OK, with that, I think I'm done. Thank you again! I'm absolutely thrilled and you haven't even made it yet to Pictured Rocks or to my home peninsula!
Spectacular drone shots!!!! What a fun, informative video! It is hard filming museums, historic sights it’s a overwhelming amount of info, but you guys nailed it! Great video, love the bloops too! ~Cara 😊
Beautiful drone shots in this one! Always love see that point of view. How did Kona like the mine? That looked like a fun tour for sure...always fascinating to see those and how much work was involved in it all.
Another great video! You kids are awesome. Being a Michigander, I very much enjoyed seeing my favorite places UP there! The first time I camped in Fort Wilkins State Park, the campsite next to mine had a bear trap set up. That was fun, especially being in a tent, with a dog! There were bear sightings, in the park, the three days I was there. Yikes! The Keweenaw Peninsula was actually a peninsula. The end of the waterway, by the lighthouse you had in your video (by McLean State Park) was connected. That is a man made waterway. Calumet is a pretty awesome, historic town. Too bad you hit it on a Monday with the NP stuff closed. Not if, but when you come back to the area, check out the historic Calumet Theater. It was designed after Ford’s Theater, where Lincoln was shot. The acoustics are awesome. On the tour I took, they were tuning a piano on the stage. You could hear a normal conversation up in the top of the second balcony as if they were next to you. Amazing place in terms of architecture as well. The paintings on the ceiling, simply awesome. The Italian Hall Dusaster happened in Calumet as well. Interesting reading about it here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_Hall_disaster. The places you visited, awesome! Keep up the great work! Love you two!
Wow that’s wild about the bears! We had read that some people saw bears near Brockway Mountain recently, but we didn’t see any 😭. And that theater looked nice from the outside! We will have to go inside next time. Thanks for the link, we will check it out!
What a great video! I actually visited this mine as a kid, but totally forgot about that trip until I watched your Colorado mine video. Thanks for helping me relive those memories 🙂
The minerals museum at Michigan Tech is worth the two days it takes to see it all. They only sell two day tickets! My wife and I are both experienced geologists, although mostly soft rock experience. Some of her schooling was in lower Michigan, but they took field trips. This is a classical locality every geologist has heard of. We had a great busman’s holiday on the Keweenaw Peninsula! The Porcupine Mountains are an extinct volcanic complex BTW!
Hello Adventurers😊😊😊, Fort Wilkins was one of my favorite highlights from my time there. The Kennesaw is a really beautiful area. Those interesting pastries looked really good especially the peanut and jelly and caramel...i love caramel. People don't realize how beautiful Michigan really is as most associate it to Detroit. I know you have many more places to see in the Upper Peninsula. I can't wait to see what's next😊😊😊👍👍👍.
My grandfather grew up in Calumet Michigan and when I was 6 or 7 he took me there like every year. But he did mine with his dad when he was a kid, but he ended up going back to school. He told me soooo many story’s. But sadly he past away November 2020 due to COVID. But me and my grandma went 2021, 2022 and last year. Hopefully we can continue to go every year for him. His parents were buried there and we put his ashes between his real parents because he always wanted to be by them, but he wanted to be cremated. But he’s a Veteran he fault North Korea and a Purple Heart and downtime Calumet they put those flags of Veterans and other wars. So his daughter ended up put his up and when we saw that last year we were sad because we wished he was still here to see his flag up about his Purple Heart. I love to go up there because it’s so peaceful and all lot of fun to explore.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your grandfather. I bet he had some amazing stories to share! My (Adam) grandfather also fought in Korea. We had a wonderful time there! Thanks for watching!
You should check out the ghost town of Fayette on lake Michigan south of US-2 on the Garden Penninsula. The Iron ore from the Jackson mine in Marquette County was shipped to this sight and smelted into pig iron ingots.
Very cool vlog guys! The mine was cool and of course the brownie looked so delicious! You really put the drone to good use in this one…beautiful views! Thanks again for yet another fun, informative, and amazing vlog! You guys are the best! 😍😃😄
Great video, that is a beautiful part of Michigan, a dear friend was born and raised in Calumet and she kept a small trailer in a campground on Lake Superior for her summer home. Sadly cancer took her a couple years ago. I live just off Hwy 41 in Florida and some years back traveled on it to the very northern end near Fort Wilkins state Park. That was an adventure through eight states and would love to try it again one day! Be safe, happy camping, can't wait till your next video. Trying some UP pasties maybe??
So sorry to hear about your friend! It is a very beautiful area, with so much history and beautiful views. And we can't wait to share the next video. It has some of our favorite spots on the UP!
By the way, it’s a confusing trick we Michiganders play on visitors with the French spelling, but Isle Royale is typically pronounced the anglicized “ile ROY-ul” and not the more obvious-seeming “ile roy-AL”.
I just realized how you have only 70k subs. I thought you had way more :( But that shows how great your vids are!! Hope to travel again once covid calms down and pay of emergency house improvements.
We would’ve never ever imagined having 70k subs when we started our channel, so we are more than shocked, thrilled, and grateful that this many people want to follow along. Thank you for being one of them! ❤️
Another awesome video! Love the drone shots over Brockway Mt. Too bad it wasn't color season. BTW, you neglected to mention the lake with the funniest name this side of L. Titicaca - Lake Fanny Hooe...
Hahaha we camped right by that lake actually! We got a giggle out of it 😂 And we hope to have some epic fall foliage videos this fall from the Northeast!
Ya I’d say the mine is the most fun thing. Calumet Township was a really neat and historical town also. We wished we could’ve walked through some of the historical buildings and museums, but they were closed. So if you can catch those if they’re open on your trip that’s something we really want to see next time
@@AdventuresofAplusK thank you! It wasn’t on our itinerary but we might have some time now. Hopefully you get to explore more too. I always like to think of visiting a new area as like putting in a first coat of paint. Gotta do it again to get the missed spots you know?
That PB&J brownie looked so good! I subscribe to this channel called The Crystal Collector and he uploaded a video in the last couple days about Yooperlites, these rocks that glow under UV light and are found in the UP. A guy just discovered them in 2017 if I remember correctly and he does night tours on Lake Superior. But it looked cool, you guys should check them out!
@@AdventuresofAplusK My father takes many people he meets on his boat to tour the islands. The only way to see them 😊 He knows a lot about the islands and has designed many of the boat houses. Hit me up if you are ever interested in a free tour. We also boat to Mackinac Island many times a year. Way better than taking the ferry 😉
We didn't notice many annoying flies in this area, but they were brutal near Pictured Rocks. 😅 This was filmed about 4 weeks ago though, so we can't speak to how it is now unfortunately.
Highest drive between the Allegheny's and Rockies? With the highpoint in the entire state of Michigan at only 1979 ft., that seems unlikely. Beautiful area though. Love the look of the north woods areas of MN, WI, and MI.
@@AdventuresofAplusK That's great...and probably one of the best places you can be. It's on my bucket list for sure. I'm hoping to make it to Acadia early next summer.
Hello all, hoping a few people that wander through might chime in on my question of if you could live in Marquette or Duluth what would you take and why? Thank so much
FYI: Isle Royale is a much shorter trip from Grand Portage, MN. Only 90 minutes vs. 4 hours (or is it 6?) It is also possible to do a day trip from Grand Portage. Should belong to Minnesota! (Actually it's closest to Canada, which by the way, has an amazing Superior shoreline!)
We meant to talk about the park more in our MN vlogs, since we know it's closer to there, but forgot, so tried to mention it on this one since we know people would be curious if we were going and why or why not. 😃
Unfortunately not. It was too logistically challenging with the van and Kona, so we skipped it and will go on a van-free and Kona-free trip in the future. We have family close by, so we go up to the Midwest often thankfully!
We didn’t say or think it was anticlimactic. The overlooks were amazing! We just wanted people to have the right expectations that the drive was mostly tree covered.

Ahhh nice! So happy we could help you relive memories!
Beautiful country and I especially enjoyed the drone views. Thanks for sharing.
We love when we’re able to fly the drone!
Just didn't think about MI with mining history.....thanks for sharing! That PBJ Blondie cookie looked awesome!
We didn’t either until someone from the area told us to check it out!
Fort Wilkins was sooo cool! We loved it! And we have one more UP video with a few more spots. It was our favorite set of adventures from up there!
10:29 what kind of tacos did you make? They look so good!
They were super simple ground beef and cheese ones! They were sooo good!
Pretty cool video thanks for sharing, look like some nice places to visit.
It's a great place with lots of cool history!
Oh cool! Next time!
Very cool vlog guys! The mine was cool and of course the brownie looked so delicious! You really put the drone to good use in this one…beautiful views! Thanks again for yet another fun, informative, and amazing vlog! You guys are the best! 😍😃😄
We loooove when we can fly the drone! It was pretty windy and I’m surprised it was able to fly haha
Another great video, thanks so much. Be safe.
Thanks so much for watching!
Great video, as always. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
By the way, it’s a confusing trick we Michiganders play on visitors with the French spelling, but Isle Royale is typically pronounced the anglicized “ile ROY-ul” and not the more obvious-seeming “ile roy-AL”.
You Michiganders and your darn pronunciations!
New to your channel. Like your content! Keep it up!!
It amazes me how many great channels there are.
Thanks David! We appreciate you watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK 70k is alot just the yt community makes you look small if you have that many.
I did this mine when I was up there a few years ago. It was one of the coolest experiences. It felt like I was doing something illegal 😂
Kona, going where no pup has gone before!
Homegirl has had some pretty amazing experiences in her life so far!
Possibly could swing by here on our trip - we can’t do all of this? If you could only do one thing, what would it be? I’m thinking the mine …
Im originally from Michigan and have been all over the state. But i remember a few years ago Gordon Ramsey was at that monastery, cooking.
I just discovered your videos today, watching a reaction vid by Lewis of your travel through Glacier Mountain National Park.
Did you visit Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Harbor Springs area?
Unfortunately not this time. The heat was too difficult in the van and we really needed time to work, so we couldn’t visit as much as we hoped.
Gahhh unfortunately we left Michigan a few weeks ago, but we will have to find these next time. It sounds super cool and unique!
I grew up in the Les Cheneaux Islands . Check it out. It’s beautiful . ❤️
Looks beautiful! Definitely coming back up to the Great Lakes next time on a couples getaway so we can explore islands more easily!
That sounds like a blast!
thanks A+K
How bad were the black flies? I am trying to plan a trip. I have been to the UP many times but I always hit the black flies!
We didn't notice many annoying flies in this area, but they were brutal near Pictured Rocks. 😅 This was filmed about 4 weeks ago though, so we can't speak to how it is now unfortunately.
I do as well. If its try they tend to die down.
Highest drive between the Allegheny's and Rockies? With the highpoint in the entire state of Michigan at only 1979 ft., that seems unlikely. Beautiful area though. Love the look of the north woods areas of MN, WI, and MI.
www.michigan.org/property/brockway-mountain-drive
The area looks so green and lush…I’m sure very beautiful in the fall. Do you have a fall destination in mind?
We will be in New England for the fall 😃
@@AdventuresofAplusK That's great...and probably one of the best places you can be. It's on my bucket list for sure. I'm hoping to make it to Acadia early next summer.
Hello all, hoping a few people that wander through might chime in on my question of if you could live in Marquette or Duluth what would you take and why? Thank so much
FYI: Isle Royale is a much shorter trip from Grand Portage, MN. Only 90 minutes vs. 4 hours (or is it 6?)
It is also possible to do a day trip from Grand Portage.
@@AdventuresofAplusK However the Michigan trip lands you at an actual hotel! Very expensive!
Love seeing Michigan! Any plans to visit Mackinaw Island?
Unfortunately not. It was too logistically challenging with the van and Kona, so we skipped it and will go on a van-free and Kona-free trip in the future. We have family close by, so we go up to the Midwest often thankfully!
We are also professionals of showing up to places that are closed 😂
Hahaha always a fun surprise 😂😂
Been to the jam pot lol
❤️
❤️❤️
My OCD wanted to read the whole sign for the 9,000 pound chunk of Float Copper...
Here is some more info on it! www.geo.mtu.edu/KeweenawGeoheritage/CalumetGeosites/Float_Copper.html
I was born in Ahmeek..
I have gone in that cave
What did you think about the soldier being arrested/placed in the brigade for "general worthlessness"? haha
Such a funny and sad thing to be arrested for 😂
oh lord😅texass
It’s a beautiful place, but you missed the Gay beach. Worth a stop.
So much to see so little time! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Hey, you guys are the featured stars at this video by Wanderful Revolution: ruclips.net/video/JvyWZeEryIQ/видео.html
Hahahah it was so awesome to meet them! We ran into them two days later at a casino (free camping) as well 😂 #notstalkers
Hilarious!
Sorry Brockway Mountain Drive was anticlimactic. I guess it’s better in the Fall
We didn’t say or think it was anticlimactic. The overlooks were amazing! We just wanted people to have the right expectations that the drive was mostly tree covered.

Wait, habinero chilies are MUCH MUCH hotter than jalapeños.
Yes they are
I really like your video we have been up there for 25 years we enjoyed it up there
