I like the 105, they split the difference between the 99 classic and 109 pro. They lean more towards the pros vs the classic. I'll be ordering my wife a set for Christmas, she heard them at Canjam Dallas and loved them.
excited to try these. 109pro imo was incredibly bright sounding, not necessarily sibilant but extremely sharp and will definitely get fatiguing after a while. they were oh so comfortabloe though, and having another offering with that built at this price might be a hit.
If you haven't already try some HD660 S2's, I found the 109pro just as sharp as you describe and returned them. Then I started looking for headphones that put emphasis on midrange more than the treble and the only answer I could find were those Sennheiser's. While everyone is doing either V shape or emphasized highs to give a false feeling of detail and liveness, the Sennheiser's go at it backwards and put emphasis on realistic timbre, midrange and refined highs, that's why they are incredibly special. But YMMV since everyone has a type of sound they prefer.
@@RagnetulCarpatilor I have the HD6XX and the 109pro and I don't find the 109pro fatiguing at all, fortunately. Plus they're way more comfortable than the HD6XX. As you said, mid-range and vocals on the HD6XX are better though bass is worse.
I tried these at Dallas canjam and to me they sound damn near the same as 109 pro but less bright. If I didn't own auteur classic I would for sure pick these up. They are definitely worth the price they are asking for.
Lol no he is saying buy the 109 pro instead which is VERY bad advice because the 105 measure similarly to the 109 pro, they have the same driver, similar build, yet they are half the price. This headphone is probably Meze’s best value product.
Nice to see this price segment start to get more options. The amount of IEMs in this middling price segment is staggering compared to over ears for whatever reason.
Good looking cans. I do however enjoy the fast/ clearer bass response from a set of planars. I recently tried the Ananda stealth and the clarity was just astounding, but the comfort for my big noggin was just horrendous on the top hot spot. Once the funds allow it, I think I'll be going for the fiio Ft5 because they seem to hit looks and sound. My planar experience come from Dan Clark aeon and hifiman h5xx.
@@Nick_in_the_6ix i was very close to going for it, but then came the ath r70x refine and it was even more of a tossup. with the sundara. def wasnt going for the hd600 so scratch that one. eventually settled on the r70x refine. sadly im in batch 3 so it comes in marchish vs batch 2 that comes in dec
so they change the tuning , when they first show it - it was stated it would be different vs the 109 and tuned towards flat neutral and studio monitoring style of a sound , and now its coming out it seems just a 109 cheaper sibling
Hey Joshua, just a quick one regarding your best 300 dollars headphones.Just checking, since the Edition XS is now less than 300, do they potentially blow the others away? Specially since they were sub 500 and already pretty good and were praised by many?
I have 109 and tested these in Munich Highend show. I can confirm these are not that good. Although they have less sharpness than 109 which results less fatiguing experience, but they sounded very generic and didn't have half of the fun I get from 109.
Hello!! I would like to know more about the soundstage, how is it when compared to the 109? Also, would it be nonsense to pair the 105 with a Moondrop Dawn Pro? Any help is welcome!! Thanks in advance.
I would say this is in a completely different price bracket than the hadenys. My guess is the hadenys would be much more to your liking, but almost twice the price of these. Whether that's worth it is totally up to you
@@Mr.Manson LCD-2 or classic? From what I have read about them is that they have good extension in sub bass but mid bass impact is lacking, perhaps i am wrong about this? I listen to a lot of Hip Hop and EDM type genres and looking for something with mid bass impact too.
@Shout0 My daily driver now is the LCD-X and it's amazing. The bass can go into brain massage levels with a simple EQ. Mid bass and everything up is also great. Absolutely the best drums/percussion I've heard. The thing is, those big ass drivers make them sound grand and thick, just a solid fun sound with all the detail you could want. I've also had (or have, the headband has terrible construction and broke) Focal Clear Mg, and in comparison it lacked in sub bass, a lot. But they have this light fun punchy sound, where you really feel the air being pushed onto your ears in certain songs. I would more recommend the normal LCD-2 over the classic, if you wanna go that way - and don't wanna spend more. They are less detailed than the X, but still has overall the characteristics that make it good. Plus they make even bad recordings really inoffensive, which is rampant in your preferred genres. It's up to you if you want fun light sound (Focal) or the thick grand one (Audeze). Also keep in mind replacement parts and support (spoiler: Focal is terrible for it).
Hey Joshua, if you ever run out of content ideas, would be cool if you could look into audio compression for gamers, a lot of gamers use the windows loudness eq but it doesn't work with most DACs. ofc you can use software compressors but would be nice to see alternatives with hardware compressors
@@Gooseys11 Some games have really bad audio balance, for example really loud weapons sounds and really low footstep sounds, so a lot of gamers use windows loudness eq (=audio compressor) to get higher footstep sound and lower weapon sound (lower highs and higher lows). but windows loudness eq doesn't work with most DACs. And no, not individually, when u have the loudness eq on, it's on for all sound, not individually if I understood your question right
@@limpan9767 oh, I've never used that before. I've always just used an equalizer app like peace to raise specific frequencies. Then I can set profiles for like fps, RPG, music ect. And switch between them easily. Even have different profiles for different headphones. It takes some work to setup and get right but it works great.
Joshua, how does this compare to the slightly cheaper Aune AR5000, you reviewed a few months back? Do you think the Meze is worth the extra $100?
These look pleasing to the eyes 👀
Very! One of the most unique-looking as well
Meze finally cooking on the looks
Can’t take the holes 🤮
That Boom mic is kinda a game changer. Might have to get those for my Planars.
Fun fact: AER means AIR in Romanian, the country where MEZE was founded.
You mean to tell me that Aer means Air??? Didn't realize Antonio was going to throw such a cipher at us to decrypt.

What he is trying to say here without making Meze mad is that these aren't very good. Or that is how i took the message at least.
Just not his taste. I've heard many other reviews saying they'd rather have this over the 109. It's all personal preference!😊
I thought he made it pretty clear that they're good, but more of a "fun", V-shaped sound, and so your tastes will determine how much you enjoy these.

Surprised there wasn’t much mention of gaming with testing on the Gunnr and the boom mic option. Love the look of these

I was waiting for him to do that comparison. At the moment the Aune is the sh*t. Love that hp.

what about the meze 105 VS sony mdr-m1 ? i would argue you get a objective better headphone with the sony for half the price.....

will you review the Ft1 pro?
Would you get this one over the Ananada Nano ? Ananda Nano is currently 400 usd in Aliexpress.
What kind of silencer do you recommend for a SCAR-L?
Why are the new additions to this price point so mid every single time? This headphone should have been game changing.

Audeze Maxwell and you don't even need a DAC/Amp since it's wireless and has an Amp built into the headphones

Shame these are black. The wood look of the 99 and 109's are to die for.
The cup of the 109 is real wood, where on the 105, it's black plastic.
