  • Back out on the boat for a trip over to Gorge Harbour on Cortes Island near Campbell River, BC, and what a wildlife viewing treat on the way!
First, we spotted many sea lions trying to fit on a red marker buoy. And then a special show from some humpback whales, including a half dozen breaches and scads of fin and tall slaps.
The Gorge Harbour anchorage was peaceful. We chose a place away from where most people gather near the marina near just a few other boats. In the video, I show you the narrow passage into Gorge Harbour and a 360 of our anchor locations during a rainy morning and a sunny evening scene.
Soon we will store the RV for a few months and head out on the boat for an extended cruise. Stay tuned.

So cool! It looks like the Sea Lions are camera hogs! I've been up the Pacific coast off and on for 20 years and never seen whales like this. Amazing. Plus, the weather looks perfect. Great video!👍👍👍

Nice Anchorage, we came through Campbell River on the 31st after spending 2 weeks north of there, can see why you go back in the summer, you have some beautiful country up there.

It was great to meet you in the Home Depot parking lot a while back. We hope to cross paths again sometime. Some of your CRZ videos were very helpful when we were planning to move to CR. Sad that you’re leaving, but we get it. See you out there somewhere and thanks for all the work you put into posting videos! Cheers from Doug and Cindy and Eagle Spirit!

Thanks for sharing! I'm on the east coast currently, so I only get to see some dolphins occasionally, if I'm lucky.

I love your whale shots, wonderful animals. With your windlass, you may consider hooking it to the starting battery. Engine will be running when you use the windlass or the bow thruster, and with dual AGM batteries you will have plenty of power to run, even with a small alternator. Have a blast on your two month journey, looking forward to seeing the West Coast of Canada.

Thanks for the tip. The way the boat is currently wired the alternator is feeding the house bank directly, and there is a Blue Sea ACR auto charge relay between house and start. When the voltage is high enough about 13V it closes and charges the start bank if needed. The installed alternator doesn't put out much amperage at low rpm so doesn't help much. I guess I could get Anne to rev it up a little out of gear. Cheers, Ray

We've been to Gorge many times, once for 3 days due to a horrific storm where we had white caps inside the marina! A small 24' wood boat tried to leave but was dashed on the rocks as it transited the narrow exit. Skipper was saved without injury but boat was totalled. BTW, your national ensign should be flown from the stern rail, not the bow.

I had it on the stern but the flag pole hardware is old plastic and falling apart, have to get some new stuff so took down all other flags and I'm flying on the bow. From what I gather that is the second in the order and OK if there isn't a stern flag. Cheers, Ray

I LOVE WATCHING Whale’s. When I was younger I did a lot of scuba diving, I still have a Dive Master rating. I used to love to spearfish on the northern coast of California. I have lost a LOT of fish by them seals. I have even lost several spare guns from Seals, which I had a Fish on my spare gun line, and they took the fish and jerk the spare gun out of my hand. I do not like Seals.
