- Dalton Hoath, the devastated father of the two sets of twin brothers killed in the Sutton house fire has said his family has been left 'devastated' by the tragedy. A 27-year-old woman was today arrested on suspicion of child neglect after two sets of 'sweet and happy' twin brothers were left home alone. The boys were pulled from the inferno in Collingwood Road, Sutton, by firefighters but could not be saved despite frantic resuscitation attempts in the street outside at just before 7pm. Mr Hoath has paid tribute to his 'amazing, smart and beautiful grandsons', adding: 'I've just left my son. He's absolutely devastated. We all are. I've lost four grandchildren and he's lost his kids as well'. He added: ''It's all the more heartbreaking because their presents were all piled under the tree ready for them'. A neighbor and friend of the boys' mother, Deveca Rose (right), said she lived alone with her four children and believes she worked for the NHS as a carer.

I been looking after my 3 kids since they were 6 months 3 years and 4 years of age I never recall leaving them out my sight or unless they with someone ever.

I guess the logistics of dragging 2 or more unruly kids can be overwhelming for even the most well intentioned parents or carers. I know that my 3 siblings and I were a demanding, inquisitive, handful. You take kids out and you need to keep an eye out. Make sure one doesn't dart off into traffic, get separated from the group and get lost, or be snatched by a Predator that has profiled that one adult struggling to keep excited and over stimulated toddlers in check.
I'm not condoning any child being left unattended at home. I've occasionally had to bite my tongue when a friend or relative shrugs off the fact that the kids were alone.
Many ordinary people do this. They sincerely believe they've contained any risks. The majority get away with it then take the risks for granted. Until a tragedy like this is a sharp reminder.
Highlights how important SMOKE-ALARMS are and recognition of how important it is to RESPOND QUICKLY to them when they are heard. r.i.p little ones.
Unattended kids wouldn't know the first thing about how to respond to a smoke alarm. Their hands would have been beneath the reach of the exit door locks, most likely.

That is why they are called latch key children. Unfortunately child care is so expensive, not everyone can afford 5,6,7 hundred dollars a week. I know I couldnt.
Yes there does need to be blame so irresponsible parents dont leave young children on their own it's as simple as that. I hope she gets the book thrown at her so she can think about the trauma she caused. When your best costs the lives of children then it's clear she wasn't responsible enough to have them. She's to blame theres no other way to describe it.

Could the loss of these 4 young lives have been prevented? The fire was unpredictable. However, with such a loving father, a loving grandfather who already misses them so, aunts, uncles, and no doubt many extended family members, why was the only option the mother had, was to leave them home unsupervised instead of enlisting one of those adults to stay with them? A decision not just the mother will regret forever. "It takes a village to raise a child."
