    In today’s Affinity Photo tutorial, we’ll learn how to steal the color grading from any image. This technique is super easy to do, and allows you to give your photos the same look and feel of any other image. All we need is the Swatches Panel, and a Gradient Map adjustment layer.

    For anyone wondering how to do this on the iPad, here's the solution! 🙂
    The problem with the iPad version of Affinity is that it can't make swatches from a photo. To get around that, you can use a site like this: www.canva.com/colors/color-palette-generator/
    Then take a screenshot of the results it generates, paste that screenshot into Affinity, and then you can continue following along with the tutorial by applying a gradient map.

      Affinity Revolution isn’t there an IOS app that does that? I found a couple but you have to manually select the colours from a photo as opposed to AP that does it automatically

    • @AffinityRevolution
      @AffinityRevolution  5 лет назад

      @@MusicFed I'm sure there is an app that does it (there's an app for everything!) But I found that website quick and easy to use.

    • @74bish
      @74bish 5 лет назад +1

      @@ianfelix4229 I save the screenshot in my ipad's camera roll, then use the *place* function from the commands menu, choose *place from photos*, pick the screenshot and place it on the upper right side of the photo that I want to color grade, so the color wheel won't obstruct most of the screenshot when using the gradient adjustment. Then make sure you're on the right layer, choose the gradient adjustment, tap the gradient (should be red, green and blue) and then when you tap on the red circle the colour wheel with the color picker should open. Now you can drag the picker on to the darkest color from your placed screenshot. Do the the same with the greend (midtones) and the blue (highlights) and that's basically it. Delete the layer with the placed screenshot, choose your blendmode and tweak your colors until your happy with them. Hope this was helpful.

    Your tutorials are beautifully clear and a delight to watch. I too am an iPad user of Affinity and would of course be delighted if you made iPad videos but I do understand why you can’t and need to prioritise your resources. However it still gives one an idea of the basic principals to take away and see if you can adapt to your own photos or art work. So I shall play with this basic idea and from this I would expect to have fun learning and see how this can be applied to the software I do own. Thank you and best wishes to Ezra

    I've found that creating 5 to 7 swatches in a pallet from an image give you more flexibility while setting the gradient tone points. I actually add points in between the shadow and mids and between the mids and highlights and use the additional swatches from the pallet to set more colour points and have more control over the gradient map. Further when setting these colour points instead of using the sample colour you can just switch to the swatches dialogue and choose the recent ones generated from your image and just double click them to decrease the number of step you need to set the colour of each point.

    I am using Affinity Photo for iPad for the past one year. Your gradient mapping and blend mode technique is wonderful. My dull pictures now look more richer in colours. The best part is I am able to fine tune the gradients with custom colours. I also bumped on an iPad app : Drop - Colour Palette Creator just like the Canva you had mentioned. Thanks a ton 🙂

      No you can't. The swatches panel doesn't have the ability to import colors from a photo.

    I'm sorry to put this here but I have to rant. I am really trying to love Affinity but some things are driving me mad being that I'm coming from PS. I recently spent three hours trying to cut and paste an image from a picture into a selection using the Mac. Oh good God! And I have Affinity's two great books as well. It was nothing short of a nightmare. I haven't dare try it on the iPad yet. Three hours!!! And I still didn't get it right. Love your videos by the way. Oh...and where is the airbrush?

      That's strange Affinity was being so difficult... usually copying and pasting is very easy to do. I wonder what went wrong? 🤷‍♀️
